Its only that I have seen them many times at gigs that I remembered him. you have to laugh these guys sometimes.

There are a lot of people saying that Paul Da Vinci was doing falsetto on this track, as much as I like Paul Da Vinci I can assure those who are sceptical that he was not singing on this record. To put the record straight, on Amazon music, there is an album created in the early 2000s by Paul Da Vinci and Bill Hurd singing original Rubettes songs. This song is one of a handful featured on this album. If you listen closely and compare, you can hear that Paul's voice was not featured on the original record. Anyway, it is stated all over the place that he only recorded Sugar Baby Love and You Could Have Told Me. Although, it would have been interesting to see what they would have come up with had Paul joined the band.
The Great Pretender.. Yes it's Alan's voice but someone else besides DaVinci doing the 2 part falsetto. It was probably unknown session singers in the studio and Alan is miming. If he did it " live" he would have to sing along with a dubbed tape. I just found out that it was Claire Torrie that actually sung the falsetto and background on this song

There used to be a website that told you complete information about different songs and recording history but I can't remember what it was called. If you searched for the recording history of the song, I'm sure you could find some stuff. Or if you're really interested, send the Rubettes a message of FaceBook.
First band I ever saw live apart from their support Bilbo Baggins from Edinburgh. I was about 10 and had a massive crush on Alan Williams. Still think he was gorgeous.
