Beautiful work. I’ll definitely have to make one for my lathe when it comes in! Don’t know if I can make it as precise and clean as yours tho! That’s a work of art

Thanks lawrie, the music is free on the kinemaster editing app, i think the tracks on this are R & B ? But not sure. I try to use the same style throughout a particular video to keep with the feel. Ive used several different types so far depending on the content.
It's nice to have the ability to iindex, I hope the extra overhang of the chuck doesn't cause your spindle to chatter more when cutting. Good job on the engraving. By the looks of your self centering vise, I would guess you've been an engraver for some time.
Gday old m, thanks for your comment, the index plate is only 4mm, no extra chatter. The vice is an absolute gem, I use it often especially when using the belt grinder. Engraver for 49 yrs, cheers

WOW new here, you are really good with that engraver for the numbers on the plate. Really neat spring loaded pin for the indexing plate, you did great here. Thank you. Lance & Patrick.
Yeah 4k chews a lot of data but the thing is I use power director mobile & do everything on my phone. It has 4k capabilities but costs so much a month to access it. 720 p does a fairly good job. Remember the good ol' vga system? It's so yuk now haha

Sure, try this, study my grip, thumb & index finger holds the hand piece & the 3 other fingers act as an anchor to resist the force on the burr wanting to move right. It feels unnatural @ first but with practice it becomes somewhat normal. It only works for right handers so if you're a leftie it's a real challenge, cheers

Ahh matty, thanks for your comment. The "trick" is how the hand piece is held. Simply copy the grip from my videos. The thumb and next finger hold the hand piece & the other three are firmly planted on the work or pad. This opposes the force the burr wants to move to the right. It's sort of learning a new way of writing and if you're naturally right handed it's easier. Left handers have to learn to use their right hands because of the way the burr turns. Engraving burrs are usually called inverted cones and mimic calligraphy pens. Master the grip, practice & you should improve. Please send me an update & if possible a sample. Cheers

You sure do have a steady hand with the engraver! And damned fine lettering skills..good on ya! BTW, that sewing machine motor is posting my mid-sized Lorch lathe...it has both a clutch and brake, so it stops right smartly when you release the clutch...not big power, but, with a VFD, enough torque, and clutch brake...
I would make one small difference. Make a small pocket for the screw to go in so it cannot be pulled out by accident or by vibration. That way entire jig will not have to be moved, loosened or tightened.

Sure Matthew, the secret is in the grip. The engraving bit spins clockwise when you hold it. By placing your three right fingers on the pad or item it counteracts this force enabling control over the bit trying to move right. It's like learning to write all over again but even some left handers have learnt to master this grip. Look closely how my hand is positioned and copy. A bit of practice & most people can achieve a good result. Hope this helps cheers
