    As a social anthropologist, humans have always, across the world and time, modified their bodies, with makeup, piercings, tattoos, and all kind of “wild” body modifications… as long as you understand that, make up is just a way to represent yourself, your identity, a way we choose to be seen by others. Of course there’s an industry that profits from insecurities, but I think we should accept that, as humans, we are creative and love to decorate our bodies ❤

      I think though technology has taken it 1 step farther to make certain things unobtainable. Like the girl who mentioned that she just learned about filters. She had been striving to get to something that is literally unattainable in real life day to day. Most people don't walk around looking like airbrushed dolls usually..

    • @toxxicx
      @toxxicx 21 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา +4

      Yeah that was my issue with the hair clip girl. She seemed anti-makeup only because there are people who say you should wear makeup to look prettier/younger/etc. What about the people who just like it? I'm not putting on glittery purple eyeshadow and a wing because society said I should. If anything, the "no makeup" look is what society pushes. Then she said "That's talent, but that's not you." A person is more than just how they look. I would also argue there are people who would say "this IS me" because they like to express themselves with makeup.

    To me, makeup is the spice of the face - it’s up to the user’s preference as to how ‘seasoned’ you wanna go. Taste levels, experimentation, etc. all go hand in hand in figuring out how you want to express yourself. On a societal level, it gets a little dicey with beauty standards and evolving trends, but at the heart, makeup is there *for your use* not others. I’m always team “do whatever works for you and have fun” 👍🏼

    The world needs more people with Bryn’s mentality. There’s enough room for me to do me and you to do you, and even if we don’t feel the same about something, that’s fine; we can just respect the differences in each other and have respectful conversations about those differences.

    My mom was really my first "beauty guru" and even though she passed when I was young she's the reason I love makeup and skincare. She always used Estee Lauder and I remember watching her do her skincare and makeup so intently and curious. I struggled with bad acne until my late teens and having a "makeup positive" mom helped my confidence with it, even to this day. This was a great video, very insightful 💅🏼💄💜

    As a woman that was bullied from a early age for having bad acne and skin problems. I always had a strange relationship with makeup because I used it until the end of high school to cover my imperfections and to appear “normal”, I also learned everything by myself so my makeup until then was TERRIBLE 😂!
    I now learned to use makeup in a less serious way and have fun with it but especially foundations its still hard to wear it because I still have bad scars but I wish I could not wear it everyday. ❤
    Anyway ,be kind to yourself.

    This was a great conversation to watch with Trixie. I love the artistry of makeup but can’t wear anything but lipstick due to allergies. Nothing is hypoallergenic enough for me. So I am a neutral observer and appreciate all these points of view on the complex subjects of beauty, self esteem, presentation and artistry. Thanks for sharing and I hope you are enjoying your well deserved break.

      As I get older I've suddenly aquired a lot of new allergies to things I used to use just fine.
      I just had a major allergic reaction to an* eyeshadow, from a brand I used before; no issues. My eyes or face gets super swollen and my throat closes. :(

    • @ruthiscurly
      @ruthiscurly วันที่ผ่านมา

      It’s not worth it! My eyes swell up too and it takes hours for them to go down, even if I just try to do a little brow enhancement on my thinning brows. I chose a career where no makeup or dressing up was needed. Biology is destiny in this case-I have no choice but to go with the “natural” look.
      I wish people were less judgmental about looks. You don’t know what people are basing their choices on.

    I found that I personally felt the face products in my price range sat on my skin in a way that made me aware of it at all times. It's not that makeup like foundation, primer, concealer, etc. has anything wrong with it, but for me a moisturizer and a color correcting powder doesn't create the same sense of being wrapped in cellophane. Sometimes people can have a bad experience like that and assume that everyone else is also uncomfortable, maybe for something as simple as not wanting to feel singled out, so the product must be inherently bad.

    I get a more positive response from people when I wear makeup. I’m blonde so my eyelashes aren’t visible without mascara and it really changes the way I look. I can choose to be invisible and that’s kind of powerful.

    As a feminist & high femme lesbian my relationship with beauty is complicated. If you ask me, I would say I love being feminine is part of my identity. But if you ask me in a deeper level as a lesbian, a feminist and a woman completely detached from the hetero patriarchy and m*n there is a struggle to recognizelize what I was thought as a child from my hyper straight feminine mom and what's expected from society & what I like and is part of my identity and who I intently am. Also I am from a place wete being outwardly "gay" looking would put me in danger😢😢 but since i have memory i have always always loved makeup and i do it for butch lesbians attention😂😂❤

    Yes men treat women differently if they are wearing makeup. It impacts dynamics outside of romance as well, work place and social settings. The downside of makeup is that it changes the expectation of how everyday women are supposed to look, as evidenced by how many straight men think celebrities aren't wearing any. The price in both money and time that women are expected to pay simply to exist in society is deeply sexist. Nothing wrong with makeup itself but the impact on the beauty standard is unhealthy.

      I hate to ask this, but is ur makeup clockable or is it enhancing? Gender bending I find is not generally tolerated by others unless, its done well... Maybe a little more or a little less is the trick to a better. I wore makeup constantly from 20 to 35 and only stopped when some silly black dye on my greys rubbed off on a tricks expensive cashmere throw which I ruined and quickly turned over. I get ultra paranoid about wearing it at clubs now thinking the purple lights make me look alien.
