Hey Maky and Matt, when trying to find a level spot, use a bottle of water, sit it on something flat inside the troopy. When the water is even with the lines on the side of the bottle, you're golden. Thanks for the views!

Hey Mackey and Matt, yeah over here in the USA we call them clams or steamers for the small ones ,we always boiled them and had them with garlic butter or we make clam chowder with the bigger ones. Thank you so much for the videos ,I grew up near the ocean in connecticut,we dug for these all the time, mostly in the mud or sand ,awesome job in your and field day channels. ,I watch them all, thank you for your time.

@@MakyandMatt hello i always do have hard time leveling car in paking spot too before but i use the water hose leveling method everything gets so much easy than before hahaha i put each end of the hose one to the front at the corner of windshield and the other is at the back same with same level, but first at the flat surface parking you need to set and mark the hose so that when you are in camp site you just have to lavel the water to your hose mark haha for sure the front and back is the same hight this method is just cheap remedy than buying or upgrading accessories techie things lol

In Spain we cook cockles in a white whine sauce made with garlic, onion a bit of flour and the white wine (some times we add some chili). A tip to remove the sand completely is to boil the shells in a pot apart with a bit of water (just a splash to steam) and then pour the liquid the cockles release through a strainer on the sauce. Then finish then off with a bit of parsley.
    Great video!!

Maxtrax as car levelers 👍, Your welcome.
The cockles we used to cook them straight on the fire on a sheet of tin, we had a mixture of different shell species.
We used to purge them in the water they came from for a day or two so they released their sand, don't like chewing sand.
    Nice recipe 🤙

The last time me and my kids visited their dads and my brothers resting place (the cemetery), I found a whole head of garlic!!! I didn’t know what to do with it, so I sprouted it and planted each bulb. It’s now referred to as the “cemetery garlic.” 😂 there’s never enough garlic!!! Especially when you’re cooking some kind of clams!!! ❤️

To the skillet instead of garlic I add minced shallot, little butter, fresh, and white wine. Let it all reduce together until they open. Then add fresh parsley (or dried if you cannot find fresh.) once they all open add one more pat of butter. So good with the wine reduction. If you don’t want dairy you can use ghee. And if you dip your crusty bread in the sauce that’s dreamy too. Olive oil is delicious with them too instead of butter. The herbs and white wine really make them divine

In New Zealand, Cockles have a limit of 20 per person per day. We soak em in a bucket for afew hours, this will give them time to spit the sand inside them. Then, fried in garlic butter until their all open. yummie, so sweet..

We eat cockles and mussels in the uk too . I steam them with a small amount of water in the pan , high heat for about 12 minutes with the lid on . No garlic , or onions etc ., just the seafood ,and when cooked we drink the hot water which they have been cooked in. A little salty but mmmmm like a seafood soup ....

Hello from UK, i watch your vids and have watched all vids on field day, Brilliant video's. Here in the UK we let cockles sit in clean sea water in the fridge for 8 hours. This purges them and expells all the sand inside the shell before they are cooked making them even better to eat. Hope this makes your next cockle meal even more tasty. Keep sharing you're cool video's

We actually have those in Missouri where I live. The creeks, rivers, and most streams are full of them and some of them get quite large like the size of your hand. I personally have never eaten them but maybe this summer I'll try and get some. The raccoons and muskrats work on them pretty hard an you can see where they have been feeding on them because the shells are all over the gravel bars.

Dear Maky and Matt, here in the Netherlands we call them Kokkels (cockles) and we harvest them from the mudflats. My favorite recipy is:
    1. good quality oil
    2. a few fine chopped cloves
    3. fine chopped red peper
    4. fine chopped parsley
    5. 150 ml white wine
    6. 1/2 fresh lemon
    7. butter
sauté the union and red pepper in they olive oil, then add the white wine, simmer untill the clams open, then top off with a fresh squeez of limejuice, a bit of butter end parsley.
You can also mix it with pasta then you have pasta Vongole
good luck and enjoy you're trip!
