LMAO true, well i think it was a mix of [did he copy me even though I made no hand signs? /and most likely created the water clones after he vanished in the mist] and [Did kakashi already know how to do the water clone since its said he's copied over a 1000 jutsu.] valid lines of thinking when trying to deduce your opponent's strategy and have real situational awareness in combat.
The atmosphere in early Naruto just hit different - if there was a 'threat' it was an actual threat, not some colourful 'super villain' who gets 1 tapped by a side-character

Peak Naruto imo, most intense fight of the series actually thought Sasuke died, would've been a wild twist. Made me feel like nobody was safe in the harsh ninja world constantly at war, I loved it. This arc got me hooked on this anime.
Best of Naruto is entire original series. Then in Shippuden: Sakura vs Sasori, Tenchi bridge arc, and the Pain arc. It's downhill from there, although Kage Summit arc has it's moments

Also Kage Sumit that I mentoined, has great Sasuke moments, and fight with Danzo. As for Obito... he has good moments later on in war arc, but generaly I think Pain was better antagonist

This, once again, shows that Naruto had a natural danger sense, talent, and instinct as a shinobi, way more than Sasuke the genius and Sakura the useless. Yet, everyone keeps on mocking him because nobody taught him well and because he didn't do good at Ninjutsu.
Given up was the technicality of things like preparing substitution techniques in exchange for spamming 15-foot tall ethereal warriors fighting against space aliens. Part I will always be my favorite. We may have had the Tailed Beats in Part I but their power was on a scale where it was quite obvious that they were not to be trifled with, even Shukaku. There's very little of this in the series anymore.
Well MK did said that Naruto is inspired by DB. Just like DB, Naruto goes from ninja stuff to alien when its time to go outside of earth. No wonder MK also take that bad side of DB as inspiration for Boruto.
I just hope he's being consistent with making Naruto inspired by DB so in the next sequel Naruto will take the MC mantle again, just like Goku taking back the MC spot from Gohan in Buu saga.

And Tsukuyomi could be Itachi's special technique. He's already specced into illusions.
Yeah that was much better. It also made the Byakugan formidable against it. Also the rinnegan post time-skip was shrouded in mystery and left us all speculating but then it just became yet another sharingan thing which is just boring.

Hyuuga vs Uchiha sounded equal. Byakugan being able to see thru illusions and Gentle Fist being able to cut jutsu apart vs Sharingan being able to predict CQC and Uchiha having a ton of mid ranged Katon Jutsu.
With these conditions, it's basically up to the skill of the individual.
Right, a good boost to your overall skills, then it turned into basically godly eyes with all kinds of powers and nonsense
It even gave off a reasonable side effects too, faster chakra drain. The gimmicks and powers got poorly handled as the show went on. The Sharingan was somewhat balanced up until the Mangekyou then got out of control after that. Although some people would argue otherwise, and I wouldn't say they are wrong either.
This time in Naruto was really good. Every time the Sharingan appeared, the viewer knew that the situation was very serious and worrying. You could feel the tension in the air and how Kakashi knew the danger Zabuza posed. This is one of the best First Sagas in the history of Animes. It remains in the minds of all Fans even today after so many years.
I miss when Naruto was like this, The most incredible Jutsus at the beginning of the Serie are literally nothing compared to the Jutsus we see in the middle of Shippuden. Byakugan is nothing compared to Sharigan nowadays, That's sad.
Shippuuden did have its moments (Pain arc, Sasuke vs Itachi to name a few), but overall pre-timeskip Naruto is much, much better.

When you see for the first time that Kakashi copied Water Dragon jutsu and this moment the hand seals are badass.
he doesnt copied this Jutsu, he was Genjutsu Zubaza to force him to use the Jutsu und think that Kakashi copied, thats why Zubasa was so confused, because Kakashi cant normal copie a Jutsu in the same time, he have to see the full Jutsu before and can then use it

...I imagine it's hard to consistently keep the clever battles with strategies and tricks throughout something so relentlessly brutal and fast paced as a weekly shounen manga. And of course, there's that damn power creep. This battle between two elite jounin is like child's play compared to some of the shenanigans happening in Shippuden. Or heck, even before Shippuden when Sasuke and Naruto were doing the Vegeta vs Goku Galick Gun vs Kamehameha homage.

I’m sorry but the vibe was a lot darker in part 1 and the stakes actually felt high. Shippuden was good but did not have the sense of fear people felt when being introduced to villains such as Zabuza, Gaara and especially Orochimaru!

back when it was about ninja fights and strategy and not dragon ballshit... kakashi copied the technique of zabuza's cloning so this gave him a hint that he will attack with the clone instead and planed to counter him in the first place with his own clone.
Tbh the sharingan is the ultimate tool for kakashi.
