Being a Mackem and associating Lindisfarne with Geordies and Tyneside I never knew until seeing this that they did a song about Sunderland.
I think some of their plastic Geordie fans will be aghast.

Many geordies support SAFC from south bank of Tyne.

Considering that they were ultimately a Geordie band I thought this was a lovely reach out across the river. Amazing band. So glad they got their 5 mins of fame with Run For Home. But their talent deserved so much more. And of course RIP.

This is a Rod Clements song and arguably many of Lindisfarne's classic songs were written by him.
Back in the day the NE were all classed as Geordies until John Hall came along and stole the name to create his "Geordie Nation". Thankfully I'm a Barbary Coaster from the banks of the River Wear, never heard of mackems, never will be a mackem.
Alan Hull was probably one of the greatest songwriters in the UK, check out his solo albums. I saw him play an outstanding solo gig in old Sunderland Labour Club. A few months later Lindisfarne played South Shields Marine park. For some reason he decided to celebrate the Mags success at the time and got roundly booed, lol.

They had the biggest selling album in Britain in 1972 with fog on the Tyne 👍

Get On Tap is very good collection of their stuff will blow you away with the variety and quality of their work. They are still touring with Rod Clements who wrote this song and are brilliant live even my wife was impressed and she didn’t know a song before the concert. Alan Hull was the real song writing talent but sadly died many years ago but his son in law no does lead vocals and sounds incredibly like him.

The only band that could get away with singing a song about Sunderland at Newcastle City Hall!

Drums are miked so perfectly and they sound so good with that heavy thud. The drummer is actually quite good and inventive for this song. Simple when he has to be, filling where it's required. Great band. Always were.
I wish Lindisfarne released more songs in this heavier style. "Cruisin' to Disaster," came off this album (Sleepless Nights) had a great cover and even better back cover. Another group that was in this style was Horslips -- The Man Who Built America -- is a great album.

Yeah, I'm a big Horslips fan. As well as Lindisfarne. Great bands.

@@normtoon4914 Sunderland had its industrial heart ripped out of and still hasnt recovered from it.The city became deprived over the years compared to affluent Newcastle which has benefitted much from govt investment much to Sunderlands expense which has been left behind and why it voted for brexit.

If every song they made sounded the same they would be Coldplay !, the album it came from was very much a transitional period in lots of ways !
