Every school disco or party back in the day, featured at least one playing of it, while we all linked arms and kicked our legs up in time. I went home with many a bruised shin or instep from kicks from over exuberant lads. Ah memories! RIP Jeff, I played this one in your honour tonight, and mentally had a jig about.

72yr old Aussie but grew up in UK. Such a Magnificent Talent but for me the moment I heard he was gone my head and my heart went to Hi Ho Silver Lining. The song always fills me with joy however sad I am. My 30 year old daughter grew up on the song usually in the car travelling up to our home up a very hilly dirt road we would sing along together at the top of our lungs in sheer joy. Pride of place in my Spotify swimming exercise video. Blasting out on the Speaker keeping me motivated.. Along with heart full of soul and for your love and so many songs of the 60s and 70s ....neighbours be damned.

Funny, I’ve been a Jeff Beck fan since the early/mid 1980s but never heard this song until about 15 years ago when it became available on iTunes. I know it was his biggest hit, but you wouldn’t know it in the USA, where the song is pretty much unknown. Love this video.
That’s the problem Beck had, he was respected as a guitar slinger but that never really translated into radio airplay in the USA for him, instrumentals don’t sell for some reason. Hi Ho Silver Lining was pretty much a novelty record, Beck hated playing it and it never appeared on any albums until the Truth reissue
Jeff Beck, the inspiration for the hilarious Christopher Guest character Nigel Tufnel and possibly the most innovative and in demand guitarist as wanted by both the Stones and Pink Floyd. One was declined and the other never had the courage to ask. Also he had just finished playing on the new album of the great Ozzy Osbourne so long after most of his peers had either died young or retired Jeff was still producing new music.
Supposedly, Beck hated being associated with that song for a long time, but it’s actually a rather nice song. It was written by Graham Gouldman, who wrote For Your Love for the Yardbirds and Bus Stop for the Hollies.
