saw lindisfarne when they came to norwich. what a great band they were. im 70 now how i wish i could turn the clock back. enjoy yourself while you can everyone
Brings back memories of a cycling holiday when I was 17 with my best friend Tim who died suddenly a few years later. This is the song that reminds me of him and that long hot summer.
You will have been the same age as me then. Very strong and generally very happy memories of this time, working and hanging out with friends. I , too lost my best friend in a traffic collision 14 years back, so i know what it feels like.....and so does my son whose closest fried committed suicide five years back. The memories stay and often really hurt...but you have to keep going and just try to keep the happy outweighing the sad. .
Back in the 70’s my father had an old Bedford angle cab and used it to do furniture removals. He was asked if he could take a budding band round a few gigs. Well he took them round a couple but due to lack of funds in the band they had to leave a black guitar that had mother of Pearl on the fret board as collateral. Well we had that guitar in the house in its case for around 6-7 months. Then a guy shows up and collected it pay the balance, he also asked if he would consider continuing as their driver moving their gear. Offering tickets to the city hall gig. Alas to my sisters dismay he refused the tickets and declined the job. Only to realise that 12 months later they hit the big time. The band was Lindisfarne..
I had a Geordie mate back in those days. We lived in York, so Newcastle wasn't that far to hitch to. We hitched up to see Lindisfarne, and all the way my mate was telling me what bastards the Geordies are to southerners (me) so I had to be really careful and do my best Geordie accent. Needless to say, the only reason I wasn't smashed to pulp was because the Geordies were wonderful. It was a brilliant weekend.
Great Song in my top 5 along with Baker St, all around the late 70s, and Year of the Cat, Sultans of Swing, and so many more. I still perform this song every weekend in various pubs in Dublin and it gives me great satisfaction and unlike me, it never gets old.
A friend of mine just reminded me of this song which was my fave back in the day, I'm 63 now and just heard it again and it sounds Brilliant still as if it was yesterday, my body is 63 yes old not my spirit😅
Another song I saw on Now 70's when it was on Freeview before it got taken off. One of the songs I mind from my childhood and it brought back memories. Especially getting back from school which I hated with a passion..this was always in my head when the school bell rang!. Great track!.
Glad that I am old enough to have gone to all the Christmas concerts at the city hall in the 70s, wouldn't have missed them for the world. Fantastic memories of my youth
@@colinbrown7021 It was just one of those things that you had to do as a Geordie. One Christmas eve show went on very late, missed all local transport and no taxis available because of the day it was so ended up walking 8 miles home and arrived back at 3am, wouldn't change it for the world.
This was one of my fave songs that year and still one of my all-time faves,I loved lindisfarnes music, and I was lucky enough to see them live in Glasgow, and the roar from the crowd when they said they loved Scotland and Scots people cos like Scotland they hated the Tories for closing all the mines ,one of the loudest cheers I've ever heard at a concert
I remember seeing Lindisfarne at the Planet Theatre in Slough during their yearly Xmas tour in the early 1980s. They were brilliant, but imagine our surprise when, after the show, the whole band came into the nearby pub that my friend and I were in. We had a great conversation, and Alan remarked how much I looked like him!! Unfortunately, neither my friend or Alan are still with us.
Oh wow! Forgot about this song . Brilliant. Thanks for posting. (Was reading an article about the island, thought I remembered there was a band of the same name).

The Great Alan Hull. Geordie poet and much under rated genius. RIP.
Decent singer and musician too
I don't know about 'much under rated', anyone who knows anything about music certainly rates him very highly.
What a superb song.... that first time I heard it back then in '78 it touched me.... and it still does.... Ben, from Holland.
Music was Music in those days. What memories.
The unofficial National Anthem of Tyneside or for anyone from the North East of England. One of the greatest pop songs ever written. RIP Alan Hull.
I am a Geordie, Newcastle upon Tyne 👍🏻HWTL 🖤🤍
Scouser here, I’ve always loved this song it takes me back to my teens, I also love “Lady Eleanor” by them, another classic.
👏🏻👏🏻🫡
I miss home. Stuck here in Japan with my little family and little home.
It's my 60th Birthday today, and this is top of my playlist.
The 60s and 70s were the best. We are all better people for knowing them.
In 60 in August 2024

Absolutely brilliant Alan Hull hitting the lead singer with his tamborine is pure class
That’s Ray Jackson with the tambourine, hitting Alun Hull on the piano.
@user-qp2sc8yg3t My apologies I got Ray and Alun mixed up
👍
Ray Jackson must have a great personality as this shows
@donbrashsux Ray Jackson is a brilliant character and performer

Glad that I am old enough to have gone to all the Christmas concerts at the city hall in the 70s, wouldn't have missed them for the world. Fantastic memories of my youth
I’m jealous. Managed to see them live in Kent. Seen lots of acts, big artists, no doubt whatsoever Lindisfarne were the best! The very best!

I haven't heard this since 1995, on an easy listening station. Thanks.😁
My song of the late 70s❤

pop stars say they always love the place they play in no matter where they play!!
feel good song 🙂

Love this song it took ages to find
Grew up with this kind of music, classic 1970s! Awesome!! August 2021❤😀👍
RIP Con 🙏✝️🇮🇪
Allan Hull Legend ❤
Great to see a remastered version, especially because the music drowns out the dreadful DLT.
That's probably more to do with DLT's shall we say 'indiscretions' than anything else
Christ I have no beer left
Join the club !!
Allan Hull Genius
Oh wow!

I am in the fawn coloured suit on the left, next to my mate malcolm in the white shirt.
my son said it reminded him of Christopher Cross... can't fault him there.
Blyth festival 2024 brought me here
The georde anthem Newcastle United should come out to this classic
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
They’re only American hit as well, in 1978 went to number 33 on the charts.
Tangled with a "Lady-Boy" at a live Lindisfarne concert, which was a mistake......!
Está muy chiva viene con dos discos
Phil Collins was talking out of join the band by genesis manager
Like Punk never happened !
DLT putting his training from his pal Sir Jimmy I see....but please don't discredit this Northern classic.....Always in my my thoughts Allen. X
prefer to have the proper studio audio, doesn't even line up
What a great song by a great band.
Do they come from southern Ireland.
No. North of England. Newcastle.
Lindisfarne should have been as big or bigger than Dire Straits.

Lip syncing?
It was Top of the Pops, all acts had to lip sync on it. But there are videos around where this band were singing live. They were brilliant
What a beautiful masterpiece from a truly talented Geordie Supergroup.
Unbelievable this man can play the piano with his hands in the air...😂😂
You can do anything when the video is lip-synched!🤣🤣🤣🤣
And, let's face it, JAH was a genius. 😊
