Another tip I found, this one is about scent. When I have to leave my cat, I put an article of clothing on the bed for him to snuggle in. I found that this reduces his separation anxiety a lot.
Found scent works with one of my friends cats...she really hates being petted/picked up...learned when I cat sit to wait until she comes towards the first time, then I put my hand out, palm up, in front of her so she can sniff/recognize me...seems to relax her...🤔

@@tlnn6598 It's for their comfort because they have the soft and the scent. My Shera taught me this as I couldn't leave a basket anywhere that she wouldn't be in when I came home. LOL

I have been a cat owner for over 30 years. Understanding a cat's behavior is key to gaining the love and affection of a cat.
I have a friend that has a calico cat. That would not have anything to do with me , she would hide away. Then after 8or9 years later she starts getting more and more friendly. Now when I come over she runs to see me and she loves having her belly rubbed. So not pushing her paid off. My SweatPea was a barn cat, we loved each other at first sight, she loved to curl up in my arms and sleep. When I went to bed she would sleep on my side, I slept with my left arm over a pillow which gave her room to sleep on my side. I miss her she passed on on my arms at the Vet. She was 17 yrs old.😢
sorry for your loss I have a 17 y/o feline 'daughter, I can't imagine life without her. I've had her since she was 2 1/2 months old. W lost her brother almost 2 years ago.

When I have visitors, my cat Tiger-J comes over and I suggest that my visitor to allow my cat Tiger-J to sniff.

I cat sit regularly for a friend...been doing it since she got the two sisters at six weeks old...they are now a little over a year old, and one clearly hates being petted, picked up, etc...learned to leave her alone...if she wants her sister or me, she'll come get us... she always naps right next to my desk, within five feet of me, so I know it's not me, she just likes being left alone, unless she's watching/cursing/threatening the birdies she sees from my dining room window...she expects her sister and I to join in, especially if there are a lot of birdies on the ledge across from my window, then she wants back up...gets her goodnight pets and kiss, but carries on when it's time to go home...we're not sure if she hates the carrier, or actually likes my place/me, and doesn't want to leave...🤔

My cat loves to meet new people. Whenever a familiar someone enters the house, she just goes straight to them. She likes her shoulders massaged, and her toys include the laser pointer, fuzzy balls, and a fishing rod with a bird at the end of it.
Pets are like small children.
They:
* can mimic the actions of their hoomans
* can act dramatic
* need to be taken care of
* love to play
* have feelings just like humans
* can love/hate cuddles
* are naturally curious
* can be taught different things
* get into mischief
* can be very smart
* can be needy/clingy
* throw tantrums
* want to sleep with you
* need to be fed regularly
* want to eat your food too
* want/love to be the center of attention
* can get excited to see you come home
* can get excited when going to see Grandma/Grandpa
* can get excited to go to the park
* can be stubborn and not listen
* can love/hate going to the Dr's (vet)
* have accidents
* need to be potty trained
* go to daycare
* can love/hate baths
* wake you in the middle of the night
* run to you when scared
* don't always look before crossing the road
... just like a toddler.

When my uncle was staying with us my cat a white Persian immediately took a liking to him. He was a marine mechanic and my cat LOVED the smell of his shoes. On a funny note- all of my cats would not run away but would slightly recoil when I undressed in front of them- like "good grief Mom get those clothes back on."
my cat hates when I close the bathroom door but also hates seeing my undressed. my thought is we are supposed to have fur like them..???
@@sharongagnist6428 oh yeah, they may be freaked out by actual nudity. Mine seems fine but we’ve together for more than 13 years so she’s gotten used to it I guess. She often follows me into the bathroom - dunno why. It seems like curiosity and/or companionship. Or maybe she’s intrigued at how different I look in the shower. She’s certainly not disapproving though.

Three weeks ago I adopted a 6.yo cat. The rescue said he purrs but doesn't meow.
He behaves just the opposite.
I've opened all rooms to him after a week in his room.
I Wish he wouldn't spend the day under the rocker/recliner. I tried blocking the living room last night and couldn't find him this morning. I looked in the living room and there he was, on the couch and looking so proud of himself.
It's hard to play with him when he's squished under the big chair.
Give him time. We adopted a 5-6 year old whose humans passed. She spent over a month hiding during the day but we heard her all over at night. She slowly came to us more and by 3 months you’d never believe her earlier behavior.

I saved my cat who got abandoned in -30 weather i crawled under then church and put him into my jacket and every day i stayed in the room with him i was 12. He slowed blinked alot ❤ named him lucky who leaves,them outside cold weather he lost his ears but i loved him ❤
My cat gets overstimulated when petting and even through he looks like he's enjoying the petting, he'll bite. I have learned to watch his tail, now I don't get bitten. He starts with just the tip thumping and the more he's getting worked up, the more the tail gets higher and more aggressive moving. I stop before it gets that far anymore.
As for the weirdo cats, he is one that absolutely melts for his tummy pets. However, he will bite and scratch my hubby if dares try it. Maybe it's because mommy and tummy rhyme? LOL
They have us trained so good, don't they? Oh and when I don't understand cat talk and he wants something, he will run to his scratch board, attack it and start ripping it to pieces as he looks at me! Letting me know that is exactly what he wants to do to me! LOL

I have to watch my boy's tail- when it starts whipping away, I immediately stop. He's very sensitive to touch which sucks because I barely get to pet him! But when he's hungry, he's rubbing all over me like crazy. Fickle creatures😅
@@kkbird21 I learned a long time ago that if you want a cuddle cat you have to start then as kittens by paying them a lot of attention, especially the petting and putting them on your lap. I don't mean to over pet them, just letting them get used to the lap and a few strokes will do. Hope this helps.

Any helpful tips on how to stop my kitty from biting my feet? She bit me yesterday and drew blood. Is it a form of playing or... because it is not easy getting rabies shots. Thanks for all your informative videos.
1st and foremost, it's EXTREMELY rare that a cat will have rabies, so don't start worrying about that!!! If you don't know how foolish humans test an animal for rabies, trust me when I say.....YOU DON'T WANT TO KNOW!!!
When this happens, the 1st thing I would do is check all the things your cat "expects" you to have for him/her, a CLEAN litter box, plenty of water sources, crunchy food and canned, I give mine a special canned meal 3 or 4 times a week. Other options would be a plush place for them to hang out and feel safe, or maybe it's an indoor cat and it wants this to change.
If this is well taken care of, then maybe someone else in the house has done something they don't like and expect you to fix it!!!
The truth is, only you can figure out why this is happening, and that's by painstakingly observing your beautiful companion while learning as much as you can about animal behavior and intelligence, we've come leaps and bounds in the last decade with what we've come to understand about these two things!!! For example, did you know that Crows and Ravens can not only talk in many different tones and languages, but that they can also make tools to help them get food in increasingly easier ways??! The plant and animal life on Earth is so diverse that it sometimes blows my mind clean out of my head!!!!
If the cat is a young one, there's more than likely nothing to worry about. Nearly every kitten or adolescent I've been around has bitten me in some way or another!!!! They grow out of it quickly ......
When my cat starts biting me, I generally find either the litter box needs maintenance, or the food needs replenishing/replacing.
I have become a lot more attentive to these things, so it rarely happens anymore. If it does I see it as a personal failure- _I_ have done something wrong, not the cat.
The litter box needs to be emptied of "deposits" every day without exception. If the box is too small you may have to empty it multiple times per day. I use a large plastic storage container, not an official litter box. This works very well.
I don't know how you arrange the food, but my cat always has food available-so-called "free-choice" feeding. He has both canned- and dry-type foods. If the canned food starts drying out, it is no good and must be replaced. Contrary to popular belief, dry-type foods do not last forever and must also be replaced pretty much every day. They lose their freshness and go stale. Cats are very sensitive to this and will not eat bad/old food. Water also must be replaced daily. One other thing: use glass or porcelain dishes, not plastic. Plastic harbours bacteria. All dishes including water must be washed.
If those are good, another possibility is that the cat feels neglected and would like some attention. In any case, I would bet the cat is sending you a message. You just need the fancy decoder ring.

My cats are strange indeed, they must take after me I guess. I had 3 choices for a year when it comes to water, glass, stainless and plastic. It seems the plastic and stainless beat out the glass, which was a huge surprise to me!!! The stainless is a clear frontrunner though. And then there are the 2 or 3 that prefer the fill tank for the dang toilet!!! Decoder ring or not , I don't believe there is anything alive that can predict what cats want, need or are gonna do! In my opinion though, that's why I love em!!!

My older cat, female 11 yrs, has lived with dogs for the most part of her life. She meets and greets ppl that comes in by the door and acts in many ways as a dog. The younger one, male 6 yrs, is much more catlike! He has boundaries and integrity. When he came to us about 16 months ago I took every chance to slowblink at him and it took less than a week for him to come to bed and sleep. I definitely believe it’s related. He is friendly in many ways but refuses to get lifted which confuses me. Never had a cat like him, among the ten or so I have lived with. What to do, and how? I want to be able to wash his eye and check his ears and so on. Anyone?

Please help! I own two houses and change between them a lot, I recently got a cat and he is very active! He even let me pet me and played with the toys I bought. But when I was in my second house he became very moody, he won’t let me pet me and kept dodging me and he reduced eating and drinking like a lot. He just slept and slept and slept. It’s really weird and I am concerned so I am taking him to the vet. Any tips on how to make the atmosphere change more bearable and make our bond stronger?
This is wonderful! I love to see how long I can keep my cat purring while doing things he loves like petting, playing, cuddling. Purring is a great way to know if you're doing things the way they like them (all cats are different as you say for sure!)

I'm getting a new kitten to day
Can someone help me? I moved to a different state and took my cat. She is usually an indoor/outdoor cat. She used to sleep with me all the time on my bed but once I moved, I moved in with my sister and her family who doesn't let their cats be I door at all (sister is a bit allergic but hates fur everywhere) so I had to keep her outside. I used to hang out with her outside all the time but then got a job so I have been working tons and haven't been able to hang out with her almost ever. She hunts on her own so I never need to feed her (plus she is picky and doesn't want to eat anything I gave her anymore) so I can't tempt her with regular food.
I'm sad that now she likes being in the neighbors yard more. She comes when I call her sometimes (not always anymore) and she doesn't hang around me much anymore either. I feel like this move has separated me from her and I'm trying to bring it back but I'm not sure what to do. I'm hoping to move again in the near future Where I can have her be indoor and outdoor again but first I need to develop a good relationship with her again.
What do I do? Do I try giving her tasty cat food treats to attract her to me so she associated good food with me or something else? I'm honestly really sad..

Since we've been using dogs for quite some time now to 'sniff' out the freakin most horrible thing I've ever had rob me of the ones I love, CANCER!!!!!, and like he said, cats sense of smell is around 14X BETTER than a dog, doesn't it make 'scents' that they would be able to smell it too???? I know people who have even been able to smell cancer in another person, they say it is NOT a pleasant smell!!!!
If you've had a kitty for awhile, or, after watching this wonderful video, have won the affections of a cat, then you know they will typically show a good amount of loving actions when they approach you. Even if it's just to get a bowl filled or to be let outdoors....etc, etc.....
This is what I'm saying to pay VERY close attention to, if your cat approaches you like everything is normal but then recoils in horror as if you have something dead stuck inside your leg, and does this a few times in a row over a week or something, GO GET SOME TESTS DONE!!!!! It can't hurt to know whether or not you're being attacked by a horrible disease, if you discover this at an early enough phase then treatment options are many!!! A lot of which won't be lethal to you, just the trash you want gone from the body!!!
This is one of the many MANY reasons humans started to want to have animals around them in the 1st place, they have crazy amazing senses compared to our own and early warnings to ANY threat is one of the best things you can hope for!!! All it costs us is a little bit of food, love and respect, what we get in return is sometimes unable to be measured when it comes to the 'Love Richter Scale' cats and dogs are capable of making us feel as if we are the best thing alive, I'm not sure about everyone else......but that is something I will ALWAYS want in my life!!!! Especially when they can help lengthen that life by helping you beat most of the things that want to take you out!
