We rescued a little black kitten a couple of years ago. He's very sweet affectionate and loving. However, he is still scared to death of people he doesn't know he runs away from them if they try to approach him. Also, he is terrified by loud and or sudden noises and he always runs and hides in our bedroom and he'll stay there for hours.

This! Get them a scratch pole. Only trim the nails if the cat can't take care of them and they hinder them in daily life. Most cats don't need nail trimming. Also, don't adopt cats that are super young, they need their mother in the first few weeks.

My kitten loves me to the point of rubbing his body all over my face when I recline. With hubby, he gets ignored and only likes him for butt scratches and food. I left him to his own devices and gave him soft love and affection as well as protected him fiercely when one of the other cats injured his leg. Hubby had kinda manhandled him from the carrier to get a good look at him. After a while he got close enough to scratch his butt and he still comes back to him for that, so I guess he doesn't hate him... but rather is wary of him.
You shouldn't cut cats nail you should get a scratch post their claws are very sensitive I've got three cats and I never their nails it is unnatural they need their nails to grip on things like when climbing my cats live a natural life they often like to climb up my back yard fence as cats some times like to be high up, this is one reason you don't cut their nails and if you happen to cut far down it is painful as they've got nerves in their nails I let live by their natural instincts also people should not bath cats to much as it can ruin the natural oils in their fur as they groom themselves and look after themselves. But they be stroked and combed.people can show them some affection but you should not over do it cos some times my cats like to be left alone to sleep

It's a healing vibration, so a cat may purr when in pain or injured, may feel very scared but trapped so fighting movements don't work, or generally distressed. Purring both expresses calmness from happiness or dealing with discomfort - a powerful type of feline meditation. Always check out other body language of the purring cat. Especially if their tails are moving in a thumping wag and their ears flat, their purring is not from happiness!
GOOD advice. I would add: take your new kitten to the vet for a checkup. Make sure they get the required shots. Also determine beforehand if your cat will be an indoor or outdoor cat. Our cats are indoor because it is safer where we live. We play with them frequently so they get exercise.
After that first trip to the vet make sure to get health insurance on him/her. If you wait too long some health issues can pop up that the insurance co will consider pre-existing and your rates will be much higher or they will put a rider in the policy that they wont pay for any treatments connected to that issue. I had an older cat i got insurance for long before any health issues and when we adopted a six month old male kitten i had planned to add him to the insurance but i procrastinated too long (my focus back then was my bad hip & subsequent hip replacement surgery). I had taken him to the vet to be checked over and he was fine. THATS when i should have gotten his insurance asap. . . He was way too aggressive with the older cat & had other issues (like peeing ALL OVER the apt). Everyone kept saying once he got fixed it would help, so i got his appointment for getting him fixed. The vet wanted to do one more exam to make sure he was ok for the surgery, however he had developed a hole in his heart/heart murmur and couldnt have the surgery. She scheduled an appt with a cat cardiologist who wanted over $900 just to walk in the door 😱 With all the other added expenses there simply was no way i could afford that with my tiny ss check. If i had gotten insurance early on he could have gotten the treatments he needed. He lived 3 more months, exactly one year to the day we adopted him. One night they both had the zoomies and he jumped up on a table & when he jumped down he died in midair and was dead when he hit the floor. He was just a baby, 18 months old. My heart shattered with grief. He will forever & always be my sweet BabyBuddy.
Boy, I really messed-up. I always held my kitty when I got him. I had to bottle feed him. He would fall asleep in my hand. So, what happened? He will not allow others or myself hold him. He is down right mean to all. What did I do wrong? Curious.

You don´t want a fearful cat, do you?! Furthermore cats need their sharp claws to climb on trees fast and effeciently in emergency situations when hunted by a dog or another predator. Additionally, why should you cut the claws at all? Cause you dont want to be scratched or what? Build a solid, trusting relationship with your cat and it will never scratch you!, except you torture it with loud noises to get it used to it ;) Cats are very adaptable! They get used to loud noises automatically, you need "not" to do it purposefully. If the cat doesnt like the noise, it should be free to go somewhere else in the apartment where it is quieter, or even better to go outside during the cleaning.
