    So you guys, and Jeff Varner still don't get it. First of all, even if Zeke was "out and proud" it still was completely not Varner's place to randomly imply that if a trans person doesn't disclose that about themselves, then they're being deceptive. So I hope that his "trans friends" see through that apology at the end.
    And Today, you guys say "it looked like they made up so why was he fired?" Cuz it's not about that. If the person he said it to forgives him, it doesn't change the fact that he contributed to shaming trans people, something 8 million people saw on tv.

    This made the Today Show? Slow day, guys? I think what Jeff said was absolutely the most appalling thing I have seen on Survivor, but the aftermath of getting fired for that kind of mistake is beyond extreme and ridiculous. "Core values are honesty, integrity, and respect" - was he honest? Yes. Did he have integrity after consoling his actions at the moment? Yes, by leaving the Tribal Council with no back talk. Did he respect the choice of others? Yes. Sorry, Allen Tate Companies, you just put aside your own set of values for ones that media wants you to believe. Jeff can't reverse what he said and when you are in the moment of the game, you will try as much as you can to save yourself. His actions crossed the extent into personal territory, and he knew it was terribly wrong after saying it. And the Tweeter who said it was a "hate crime", the moment was in no way discriminatory toward the LGBT community.

    • @ara1156
      @ara1156 7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Yeah. When you sign on to a reality show, you kinda give up a lot of your privacy, by the nature of being a "celebrity". But if CBS was going to only air the show with Zeke's consent, they should have gotten Varner's consent as well.
      What Varner did was wrong, but Jeff was like "You didn't just reveal it to 10 people, you revealed it to millions." No, it wasn't a live taping. CBS revealed it to millions, and if they did it against Varner's wishes, they pretty much did exactly what they were admonishing Varner for doing: Revealing something to the world about a person that could have a huge impact on their life and cause them to suffer discrimination for it.
      People preach understanding, acceptance, and open mindedness, but still love to throw hate at somebody when they can feel justified or self righteous.

I haven't read the Survivor rule book, granted, but I'm pretty sure there's no clause in there that says that a producer can just send someone home because they don't like them. I did watch the video and that's a great way for them to CYA, but it was irresponsible to put Varner in danger by airing it. This man is going to now get death threats and be treated like a leper because he made a mistake.
    I'm old school. I remember the Jenny Jones murder. These producers are responsible for telling Varner to use all information in his arsenal to save himself. Now that Zeke has told us that Jeff and the producers knew he was transgender, they had a responsibility to not let it escalate. FYI, when trying to see who's culpable in situations like these, it's clear that the ones who should know better and have the power are to blame, and that is without a doubt CBS.
    Varner outed Zeke playing the game on a closed set. CBS then outed Varner to the world. They were both wrong. CBS just has more lawyers.

      From a public relations perspective, I don't think they had a choice. The firm is in a very progressive area, and I wouldn't want my business to get that sort of negative publicity. I'd also have to ask myself "Would Jeff be willing to do something like that to his coworkers in order to get a promotion? NYC law prohibits discrimination based on gender identity; so is he also leaving me open to legal liabilities?"
      More importantly it shows a huge lack of judgement by Jeff.
      Plus Jeff was hired somewhere else so it's not like he's in poverty.

      kissfan7 I see what you're saying then. I didn't think of it from a business standpoint. Better to get rid of a potential problem ahead of time. Rather than keep him and have him be a bigger problem in the future.

      why should a company lose dollars over one employee ( whos clearly not a teenager lol ) that cannot keep his mouth in check? actions have consequences. anyone that supports him clearly likes to wreak havoc well into their 40s without consequences.
