Visited the ship as a student in Mombasa back in 1977 at same dock (the Mbaraki werf) next to the ferry landing. Glad that the ship is back again.

Been to this ship and the previous one MV DOULOS the last time they visited. It's quite an experience with the variety of books they offer on board. You feel like you want to be there forever. Wish to sail on one.

*I did not see many books by African writers on different topics, sadly. It appears the vast majority has been made to suit European cultural interests and needs. Africans who read such books succeed in developing English language skills but risk becoming culturally brainwashed at the same time as the books most likely promote Western cultural values*

      Hi former crew member here.
The books we receive are from the US. We get them as a non profit organization with a big discount.
Unfortunately we don't have such agreements with any African book company.
During my time onboard I had the same concern as well. The US is over representing and other cultures not at all. But it is very difficult and expensive to buy in every port new stocks of books

@@Jayhannes *I hope and pray that book companies in Africa and the Caribbean pay attention to your message and implement your suggestion. It would be wonderful if they could demonstrate generosity by providing discounted books. This approach could significantly contribute to fostering a reading culture among people of African descent and others who are interested in exploring their culture, history, and experiences.*

Are all the books only about Christianity?

  • @muniraalibhai6785

Its is more focused on kids books and christian books
Less on fiction for adults though glad to see James Patterson books ❤ was expecting more variety like books by African writers and self help , fiction which are unique too .. the queues are super long esp past 3pm as we exited it was maddd long .. Go prepared esp those taking kids with them
