    It’s just ridiculous! The purpose of a cruise is to get away from the trials and tribulations of land living. It’s supposed to be a very calm and enjoyable time. This is a circus!

It must be a huge pleasure to be pushed through a coastal town by thousands of fellow travelers and constantly checking the clock so that you can get back to the ship in time for departure. @@Bryan-uc6iv I don't imagine a football match to be anything other than a football match. When I think of a sea trip, I imagine a trip on the sea, not a visit to the shopping center/climbing paradise/sports field ..... with 4999 other people......I've sailed often enough on 15-30 meter boats where you can still feel and see that you're on the sea. Even on a smaller cruise ship, my “sea experience” was still intact.

    Sailed on Wonder of the Seas in June 2023 on a 7-night cruise. My wife and I stayed in an Oceanview Balcony cabin near the middle of the ship on the starboard side. Our fare was about $1800 each; we also paid around $240 for the Wi-Fi package for both of us. We only ate in the complimentary restaurants. We did excursions at 2 of the 4 ports we went to for around $200 total. The gratuity charge for the cabin was about $230. I purchased, on average, 3 alcoholic beverages per day (all cocktails); costing $45-50/day (wife doesn’t drink). We purchased coffee at Starbucks 3-4 times and each did an acupuncture session….that was fricken expensive. The grand total was about $5500. That does not include the drive down to Port Canaveral from near DC and back (rented a Suburban, as there were 6 of us) and hotel room the night prior to the cruise.

      See the supposed little stuff adds up. Timing is also important. We did a Transatlantic Eastbound on a Solstice class ship this spring. It was not even half full. We kept on getting upgrades all over the place. We wound up in a Sunset Verahdah at the rear of the ship which is the best cabin you can get and the total cost for 13 nights was less than half of what you paid for one week on the Wonder. The solstice class ship was plenty big enough.. While we were in port in Barcelona (a great place) we saw the Symphony. It had just set a record for the largest passenger transatlantic crossing. 5500 people or thereabouts not including the crew. We were on the Wonder the year before Eastbound transatlantic and I could not imagine that ship full up. So I realized thats what everyone was opting for. A crossing on a Oasis class ship. But they paid through the nose as you did. I cant fault them in the sense taking the Wonder Transatlantic (First Eastbound Transatlantic) was a dream but ours last year was about 1/2 full. I think this was lingering fear of Covid. So you have to look for the bargains and then make your choice.

      Thank you for that detail. Most people seem to be reluctant to divulge what they spend. I went on the NCL Getaway for an 8 day out of NYC in the spring 2023, and my cabin (Club Balcony) deck 14 was about $3200 (was solo, so the whole thing on me). Then I got the Spa pass ($358) and their private deck access called Vibe for another $259, plus medical insurance at $199. I ate only in the main restaurants and it was wonderful. I figure the whole thing with souvenirs cost me about $4500 , even close to $5K all told. Now you can certainly get an inside cabin and do it for less, but there's nothing like waking up to your own private balcony on the Atlantic Ocean.

    • @mariebrooks7341
      @mariebrooks7341 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Gardis72 I agree. Rolling solo is my preference after having roommates who I should never have shared a hotel or cruise cabin with in the first place. I am willing to pay for the cruise if I want to go and enjoy my peace and space. Going on Celebrity in October and it's almost 3000 just for the cruise with everything included then add on a flight and hotel. I am traveling 2 days prior to the cruise because I have to go from the east to west coast so I'm avoiding anything that could happen with delayed flights or weather. Glad that you got a chance to cruise and had your own private balcony on the Atlantic Ocean. I am looking forward to having my own veranda on the Pacific Ocean.

    I think you should really double check your information before you post. At one point, you said the icon of the seas has a height of 1,198 feet. There’s no way that it’s that tall. I’m guessing you meant the length was 1,198 feet, but there was a little arrow on the graphic, showing up and down next to the ship, when you said height.
    Also, you said cruise tickets cost anywhere from $25,000-$1 million. On what planet? I’ve taken some fantastic cruises and none of them has cost me over five grand (one came close and that was a 12 day cruise). And I think the average price of a cruise somewhere around $3000-$3500 with an all inclusive package

Sailed on Oasis of the seas, the technically smaller but also ridiculously huge younger sibling and found it to be too many people. Overall the ships are big enough to accommodate all the people, you can certainly find free space at any time, but all too often the places you want to be at the times you want to be there are overflowing with people who had the same idea. This isn't completely untrue for cruising in general but it's more extreme on these Royal Caribbean mega ships.

      Like many, I always thought I wouldn't enjoy cruises. But went on an Alaska cruise with Royal Caribbean and completely changed my opinion. We went to the Bahamas after that and it was a blast! It's basically a floating mega resort that makes stops at various ports for additional experience. We don't drink alcohol but did buy the soda package. Most restaurants are included and AYCE. There's always something to eat. We paid for the soda package and prepaid gratuities and didn't pay anything else beyond that while we were on the ship. Of course, shore excursions are extra but your choice.

      @@steveh5307that's what I do, I stick with the main restaurants which are numerous and fabulous, on shore days I stayed on the ship and enjoyed everything. But it can run huge money if y8ou book many excursions and go to specialty restaurants.

    Cruise ships carry way too many people for most ports they visit.
    Getting into a port and being the only one there is bad enough but with several there at one time, you get a small city worth of people all jammed into a waterfront not meant for it. Then You get to be in the mob everywhere you visit in the area. Have experienced it twice. Never again.
