I think she is a psychopath. I've met a girl like her before. She lives seeing people breaking point. I rent from her bit when I realized she kept making people reach their breakpoint , I moved out . I saaved myself lol 😂
She's an evil in the way hybristophiles are evil, but she makes a bid for redemption in the end and succeeds. Kelly Anne is a hybristophile, but she doesn't lie to herself about it the way Clementine does. Clementine is attracted to the killer because he's a killer, but she cons herself by creating excuses for her feelings which would accord with her self concept when she convinces herself that he's innocent. Kelly Anne is also attracted to him, which is why she's interested in the case in the first place, and if there was any doubt about this, it's done away with in the scene where she appears in court dressed like one of his victims. Observe her demeanor. It's the most emotionally animated she is during the entire film, almost as if during that scene she's dropping her icy exterior, and you get a glimpse of her infatuation with the killer. It's because she's in full on shameless groupie mode and she basically destroys her career over it. But there's character development. In the end, Chevalier ends up losing his trial because Kelly Anne used her Machiavellian sociopathy powers for good. Why she does this isn't exactly clear though. I suspect it had something to do with Clementine.
I think there are several legitimate interpretations of why Kelly-Ann chooses to expose Chevalier. If you remember the scene on the train with Clementine, she says, "you have to find emotional players and exploit them. You take your time, you're patient, and you bleed them dry. That's what I love, seeing them lose everything." There's clearly a certain power-hungriness that shapes Kelly-Ann's actions and I don't think Chevalier was exempt from that desire to dominate and leave bankrupt, despite Kelly-Ann's feelings for him. Perhaps that was her way of "getting over him". Perhaps the reason is even darker. Perhaps Kelly-Ann started to fully embody the "character" of Camille and did only what she thought Camille would do in that situation. There's a scene of Kelly-Ann dressed as Camille looking into the mirror on the night she gives Camille's mother the pen-drive with the video on it. I don't think it's a coincidence that the only times we really see Kelly-Ann lose herself is when she's dressed as Camille. On the character of Clementine, she is merely a reflection of Kelly-Ann. She has all of Kelly-Ann's feelings for Chevalier but none of the overt emotional baggage that Clementine is constantly struck by throughout the film. Perhaps Kelly-Ann, being someone of very few emotions, may have been allowed to process her feelings for Chevalier vicariously through Clementine, something her clear sociopathy could not allow her to do any other way. I think that's why she took pity on her; when she looked at Clementine, she was able to understand herself a bit better. Maybe she even felt vindicated that someone other than herself could possibly be in love with someone accused of such heinous things. I think that's way she was mad at Clementine for leaving. When Clementine left she took her vindication of Kelly-Ann's feelings for Chevalier along with her.
I agree, I don't think Kelly Ann's motivation was virtuous. I think she left the video on the mother's bedside table mostly to farther torment her, making her see the video of her daughter's torture. If she simply wanted to provide evidence rather than horrify the mother, she could have left it with the police. Also there was no virtue in her dressing up as Camille and taking a picture of herself in her bedroom.
@@dereklyntaylor Glad I could provide you some of that because I myself was a little lost after viewing, I had to write this just to work my way through it. Thank you for watching!
Looking at Clementine and Kelly Anne reacting to the snuff film. Clementine is the working class. She responds with emotion and believes in conspiracy theories. Kelly Anne is the elite intellectual. She coldly analyzes everything however appalling.
Excellent analysis. The character’s ambiguous motives, made it a fascinating watch. She is clearly someone with a very high IQ, with traits of a sociopath. She only became an active part of the case when she lost her modeling gig after it became known she was attending the trials, till then it wasn’t clear which side of the case she was on. But very cool movie. Wouldn’t be surprised if there’s a Hollywood remake in the next couple of years.
I swear, if websites actually counted releases the way they should be counted then 2024 would be a lot better looking cinema year than it is when on IMDb or Letterboxd
Just watched this movie and was flawed by it, been looking all night for a top quality breakdown to help me round my thoughts on it and you’ve done that and then some. Subbed ✊🏾
Really good analysis of a fascinating movie. I watched it in a cinema at 8:30pm and I’m honestly glad it was that time because it set the right mood and atmosphere for a quiet yet unnerving film like this. It was really interesting seeing that it was about the dark web’s red rooms because it’s such a niche and disturbing topic that it’s always a nice little horror watch learning more about if you know what I mean.
I posted this almost a year ago and this analysis reminded me of this: "That's what I love, seeing them lose everything." Kelly Anne was playing poker with Chevalier, Camille's family, Clementine and the authorities. Chevalier lost his claim to innocence, Camille's family was devastated by seeing the truth of their daughter's murder, the authorities looked inept by being gift wrapped hard evidence by a stranger, Clementine lost her belief in Chevalier's innocence. Even Kelly Anne lost her modeling career which was her real life version of going full tilt at the poker table when she cosplayed as Camille in the courtroom. Ultimately Kelly Anne won her jackpot by accomplishing her goal of everyone involved in her game losing everything, actually winning the Camille video and the added bonus of taking the selfie in Camille's bedroom. The game started with seeking out and buying access to real Red Rooms then turned into obsession once Chevalier was exposed and arrested. Kelly Anne felt personally attached to the case since she was there in essence from the beginning. A great film whose heart of darkness centered around a truly morally ambiguous central character in the beautiful, enigmatic Kelly Anne. *I like your line "Doing good things for the wrong reasons." as it's quite apropos.
Just finished the film, came here for explaination. um the first thing you say is that this film has thw most sickening and shocking scenes of the year. umm its a thriller. nothing happens but people talking. GGs with those accurate revierws.
what i dont get is how ppl think shes satisfied at the end cuz she ''caught'' the killer instead of herself enjoying the evil herself as a satanist (looked more to me as she was orgasming at the end), also satanic upside cross + hints throughout the films and the obvious dressing up as the girl,.
@@irwincardozo6713 Well you hear about these very explicit atrocities that happened to 3 young, teenage girls and then you get the express privilege of listening to those atrocities take place. Plus, there's a scene of the protagonist dressing up as one of the girls to taunt the Mother and even breaks into their house and takes photos in the dead girls bedroom. She takes pleasure in buying the recording of the third girls torture and murder and burns her whole life to do it. Those I would consider quite shocking and sickening, among other moments.
@@KerminSR For a start, sexual assault is an umbrella term that covers rape among other acts of sexual violence which took place, therefore is a fine description to use. Secondly, for monetisation purposes, harsh terms like 'rape' often have an effect on my ability to make money from my content, as well as occasionally prevents videos from entering the algorithm. Thirdly, words like that can often be a trigger to some folks so it is simply just kinder to an alternative that is also fairly synonymous.

The lengths of obsession
It's about snuff films
It's not one thing. It's all of it combined, that makes you leave the cinema with a feeling of uneasiness and curiosity at the same time.
"Evil" does not exist and questioning whether someone fits into it is perhaps the most uninteresting and unnuanced way to interpret anything.

Anyone who uses the euphemism SA to describe rape shouldn't be allowed to critique these kinds of films.
