    I like that this nests in the mug and seems easy to clean. I love my Java Drip but I don't like that it always stays kind of damp on the trail. I always rinse it, dry it as best I can, then put it in a zip lock for storage on trail. This would seem to get around that, so something to consider for sure.

    Hey Ernie! I hope you come back to the TH-cam! THIS product is really great. I used it this morning for the first time. I thought it was very fast, and the coffee was just great (I make a good cup). Its easy and the filter is re-useable. I bought this with reward points at Cabellas. I went in with abut $11.00 in rewards points and thought "What can you buy at Cabellas with only $11.00!!) Well, I found gold. This thing was $9.99 and I thought I'd take a wang at it. I am usually really doubtful about these brewer gadgets and have gone to using instant coffee on the trail. NO MORE instant coffee for me. This is terrific and I recommend it to others. I'll be using it and this spring '23 it will go with me on the CDT all the way to Canada.

    There's a learning curve to this. #1, if you're in a colder environment, the entire setup is cold. It takes 1-2 minutes for the water to drip out which leaves you with a warm cup of coffee as apposed to a hot cup. It's best to drop everything into the kettle to warm them up (at least do the cone). #2, once water is done dripping, you can't hold onto the cone to remove the setup. If you do, the base will fall down and you'll have coffee grounds in your coffee. So pick it up by the base. #3, it requires a fair amount of water to clean it properly. I've found the easiest method is to place the filter upside down into a cup of water, then set the cone on top with the bottom submerged. After a few minutes, the grounds will settle to the bottom and the funnel holes will unclog. Then pour some warm water into the funnel to finish clearing out the holes. Other than that, it's a compact and convenient coffee maker. I'm very happy with mine. Thanks Earnie!

    Just received my Coffee Rocket and really like it. Extremely simple and easy to clean. The open filter screen is ingenious for quick cleaning. Thank you for the video and stay healthy out there!

    Hey Ernie, I really enjoy your videos and I get a great deal of information from you concerning whatever you happen to be showing on your videos. I purchased one of these when they first came out. I thoroughly enjoyed it and used it to the extent that I wore it out. Where the funnel connects to the filter and stand, I started developing water leakage. Not all the water in the funnel went through the filter assembly. The water began running down the exterior of the blue filter/stand parts. I basically wore out the seal between the funnel and the filter. I attempted to correct that using Teflon tape, but that did not work. I have not replaced it and have instead gone back to using the plastic filter holder & paper filter for drip coffee making. Hopefully GSI has tweaked their production to get a better wear life between those two parts. Keep up the outstanding videos Ernie, they are greatly appreciated!

    i have tried many different ways to do coffee in the woods and this is one i will try. Most recently i have been using Waka instant coffee which has been very good as well as easy peasy. Most instants are not very good but this is. Try it out Ernie and you will be impressed. I will be getting one of these to use with my favorite coffee as well. TY for the review...

    65 degrees in Louisiana in mid June? I'm in Ohio, and last night I had to put on a flannel nightgown, put a hot water bottle in my bed, and drink hot cocoa to get some sleep. It's a chilly June for sure if it's only 65 in your neck of the woods. I thought your coffee maker looked like it would hold a K-cup. Coffee gadgets like hiker stoves become addictive. Great little stove there!!!

      Nope, it’s hot here! I filmed this maybe 4-5 weeks ago! I’m too busy to film every week for that week, so I often film videos in batches when I have time available and publish in time. But, I WISH it was still 65!!! Thanks so much for watching!

    There are so many options one can come up with at home that are virtually costless. Have you ever done an instant coffee review. I've heard that some of them are actually better than most pour through brands. I'm gonna try Mt. Hagen single origin organic instant. I've seen several taste tests and it is always at the top. No extra weight, no kissing corporate G.S .l. but. ✌️

      I get the sentiment but personally I really like good gear review videos like Ernie provides. I suppose I like the ingenuity displayed in some of the product designs and the perspectives from people that have actually used them. As such I'd be pretty disappointed to launch a "gear review" video that proceeded to tell me all the ways I don't need the piece of gear and it's manufacturer is fascist. :-) That'd be more like a "no gear necessary" video....of which there are many and they can be equally interesting in their way....sorta the "backcountry hack" videos that do this....the sort that remind you that you can make coffee through a bandana if needed etc. But what would be the point of reviewing a cannister stove only to toss it aside saying "but in reality...who needs one....when you can just build a fire"?? I came to hear about the stove, not to hear how unnecessary it is...and especially not to hear that anyone who acquires it is supporting the downfall of western civilization by supporting the "corporate man". Wanna make your camp coffee through your hiking sock? Fantastic...good on ya. Do it and be happy. But there's no need to run down anyone who chooses to do it differently or those that make the product that allow them to do so.

    Thanks for introducing me to this. I ordered one but the piece at the bottom of the filter was broken, rendering it useless so I had to send it back. I’m getting another one but just wondering if you have found the plastic to be easily breakable.

  • @MrBalas3

    My biggest beef with this product is it takes closer to 3-4 minutes for it to brew. And that’s a problem in the wilderness because the morning cold robs my warm coffee 🙁. Any suggestions appreciated.

    • @mikevandebunt811
      @mikevandebunt811 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It helps if you brew into an insulated cup, but you could add a dash of boiling water to the cup after the brew is done. (I like my coffee less than blazing hot, so I don't have this problem.)

    • @MrBalas3
      @MrBalas3 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@mikevandebunt811 I ended up returning it and getting the GSI Java drip which I consider to be more compact and even though it’s on the opposite spectrum as far as water going thru to speedily through it with its more compact design works out better for me. Granted even though moisture is removed from instant coffee packets and perhaps other additives added instant coffee for backpacking probably makes the most sense one needs nothing, but the mug and water or at least nothing to clean out other than ones mug.

    If the stainless steel coffee holder has a hole in it, where is the fine screen filter for the bottom of the coffee grounds? It must be in the leg part? Didn't see you show the actual coffee filter, only the one on the bottom of the water container and you called the stainless part the filter, but it is only a cone .

    • @PaleoHikerMD
      @PaleoHikerMD  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, there is a small round mesh filter at the bottom of the "leg" part that plugs the hole you see at the bottom of the stainless steel filter. Great design because it makes for easy cleaning of the filter! Thanks for watching.

    • @walkerone9833
      @walkerone9833 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@PaleoHikerMD Thanks. I already have multiple ways to make coffee, but I love the fact you can pour all the water in right away. On the website they show 3 tablespoons of coffee going into the filter soooooo after waiting a few seconds you could add additional water to come up w/12 oz mug of java based on the 2 tbls of coffee for 8 oz of water. I like it will order. Instant, press, cowboy and now drip. Sounds like I'll have all my bases covered thanks to you!
