    I had the same problem taking too long for the coffee to drip. I fixed it by not compressing or tapping the coffee grounds too tight inside the compartment. After that, the coffee dripped as advertised. I hope this helps.🤙🏽

    This is one of the easiest and best coffee kits for backpacking. It works fall asleep I can make 12 ounces of coffee within 2 to three minutes. The biggest mistake he can make with this is just to philip completely with hot water. The filter made drip for a few seconds and then just completely stop!
    Add about a shot glass 1 oz to 2oz of your boiling water first, just to get the grounds wet and ready for extraction. Let it sit for about thirty seconds, and then add the rest of your water and it will continuously drip fast everytime.

    I just saw this video. I’ve had the GSI Coffee Rocket and I had the same issues that you’ve had. I saw the comments about how the grounds need to be loose so I dug out out the Coffee Rocket and tried it with loose ground. It worked great. Had a good cup of coffee in under 3 minutes. The Coffee Rocket is now part of my kit. I don’t have to worry about filters and it stores in my cup. Try the loose grounds and see what you think.

    I'm sticking with my Aero Press until something better comes along (but, I'll keep watching for it). I use an AP at home, so my coffee in the bush is just like it is at home (read: strong), which is nice. Plus, I got a metal filter called a Fellows Primo, so I don't have to take the paper filters into the field. The only downside was the $55 ($30 for the Press and $25 for the filter) price tag, but the quality of the juice is worth it. Since coffee is an important part of my world too, I'm always trying new ways to make a cup outdoors.
    Thanks for saving me from this one, Aaron. I hope you, Mrs. GT and the mini-GTs all have a wonderful Christmas. 🎅 🎁

    Dont drill a hole in it. The issue isnt the size of the holes in the screen but rather the lack of surface area. If you drill it, you’re going to get a mug full of grounds.

    Might want to buy another one? I just bought two of them and mine run between 2 & 3 minutes each. BTW, if you put your lid on the mug, it stays hotter longer...

    Got this a few weeks ago but still prefer the GSI Ultralight Java Drip. 0.4 ounces, also no paper filter needed, folds flat, and you can make stronger/more coffee.

  • @1pollock405
    @1pollock405 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    My favorite is the GSI ultralight Java drip. Funny thing is the best way to use it is to not follow the directions. I set the filter down inside of the cup add coffee grounds and hot water and let it steep stirring occasionally. then I lift the filter out of the cup squeeze it like a tea bag and shake the coffee grounds out. You get a nice strong cup of coffee and you don't have to worry about flow issues.

    I love these but as you stated it is only for warmer temps. I fill the reservoir and then put the lid of the cup on top to keep heat in until most of the water has dripped. Then add the additional water you want to 12 oz. This is a great item but only in warm temps. Mine has never taken that long to brew even w/the added water.

    I used mine today, pre ground coffee (although i bring a manual burr normally). Mine ran just under 3 minutes totall, maybe your over packing or try a different grind?

    Nice how it fits inside the Infinity mug, but that's where my Trangia goes. The most packable alternative I've been able to come up with is a cold brew sock.

  • @evox786
    @evox786 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I just got one and timed it using pre ground coffee. It took 6:45 and was fairly strong. However, about 30% of the grounds ended up in the cup. I think most of them slipped through between the single large hole in the bottom of the filter cup and the piece of plastic that fits into it.

    Surprised at all the glowing reviews this product has had. Used mine once, and I can't see me using it again. I want a good, hot cup of coffee on the trail, not something lukewarm and second-rate. Wish I'd seen your review before I bought one, but at least it was cheap.

    Aero press go is the best coffee maker hands down. But you have to read the directions and experiment just a little everone thinks itst to small of a cup .but just make it stronger then add more h20 to make a bigger cup.you do need a paper filter but they are tiny and 300 come with the coffee maker. Get one you will love it. Also no need to grind your own coffee it works on drip grind the best . you can even use k cups just pop open two and dump them in just remember pack it in packit out. Liked your video .i hate the coffee rocket its junk.better off drinking instant.

    Dera GideonsTactical: I think the Coffee Rocket is not slow BUT on my CDT thru hike attempt I am going to use the GSI Java Drip. I think you reviewed that at one point and that is how I became aware of it. I will be trying it out and wonder if the water noticeably cools while hanging in the filter net? If so maybe I'll not just bring it to a boil but boil it for a extra minute or two. Thanks!

    I'm afraid that if it did drip thru faster your coffee may not be as potent, the water needs time to steep while in the bean grinds in order to release the oils.... I love me some French press coffee with freshly ground 8oclock hazelnut mmmm yupppyupp in my cup!

    • @titanpreparedness
      @titanpreparedness 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jannisct for $10 bucks(amazon) its not bad. Very light weight, portable, easy to use. My only complaint was i like a dark coffee and was unable to put my usual amount of grounds in it just becausethe bowl is small. I usually dont bring the water to a soild boil but with this i do just because it does take 2-3 mins to run thru, also pour a few oz first wait a few seconds then continue, that give the grounds time to bloom. All in all a good product imo. Ill be doing a review of it soon on my channel as well and comparing it to some other coffee makers out there.

    7 minutes for one cup of coffee definitely doesn't fly, especially if you have more than one camper. If you have 3-4 campers who need coffee, you're either spending $25 or so to buy one for everyone or you're just using a french press or percolator.

    I think you are doing something wrong. Your conclusion that the Rocket takes too long is ridiculous. I just made some coffee with the rocket and it took 1 minute 45 seconds. I used two full spoons of ground coffee.

    • @whitemexican3923
      @whitemexican3923 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@gideonstactical Huh? contradictory. Sorry I don't get it. I used very fine grind. I put two and a half heaping spoons into the filter. I did not tamp it down or anything. I placed, as per directions, a little water in at first (1/8-1/2 inch in depth. It drained through quick (in a couple of seconds). Then I filled up the reservoir as much as I could. It was then real fast. OK. Hope you keep drinking coffee. As one to another-we love our coffee! ps.another aspect I like about this is it is very durable and not flimsy.
