European restaurants serve smaller portions, and we don't have a doggie bag culture (at least in my country). You are supposed to eat everything on the plate.
In Europe people think BBQ is the same as grilling. I have always understood that the US BBQ is like similar to smoking stuff and that we do here in Nordics only for fish and the idea is a bit different.
Well, BBQ has never really been a thing in Europe, and that is why you don't see it. However, over the last decade BBQ (restaurants) have become much more ingrained in european food culture.
@jonenne Also, BBQ is a southern thing because.. long summer (even fall and spring) days, big yard (cheap property) allows for alot of smoke, storing of wood, various big bbq contraptions, plenty of chill spots. And just something about being outside all day, smell of charcoal, wood, ash. Plenty of agricultural land in the US allows for huge cuts of meat at reasonable prices. Then the US is the home of 4% beer. Nothing like BBQing and drinking beer. When drinking all day, nothing beats a light beer. Here in Canada, it's 5%, and the difference between the two over several hours is the difference between a bit of a heavy head vs just that chillin feel. I'm in Canada. If I ever win the lottery, I'm buying a big ranch down south, and gonna spend all day bbqing.
The only idiot here is you. Europeans love american food. If other cultures dont love your food, your global franchises wouldnt be global would they? I bet that you never had any real european food, and somehow you think you have superior taste.
The doggy bag thing cracked me up. My parents are from London (I was born in the US) so every time I take food to go from a restaurant my dad makes some comment about it being either gross or uncivilized. I often have to point out how portions in restaurants in London are smaller and therefore feasible to consume in one sitting, whereas many restaurants here serve way too much food for me to finish in one sitting and I hate wasting food.
+LifeIsGreat Hey, if it is good BBQ, I'll eat it no matter the region. I smoke my own in Iowa here. Several reasons it's hard to get Texas BBQ right in other places, especially other countries. 1 It hasn't been popular that long so people haven't been trying to perfect it other areas that long. 2 You gotta be able to get the right cuts of beef, that often are not available in other countries. 3 You gotta get the right wood, which is oak and or pecan, no substitutes!

Ramsey said he's never taken home a doggie bag. Have you seen the serving sizes at those fancy restaurants? There is nothing left to take home.

Barbecue has been around for tens of thousands, if not hundreds of thousands of years. Meat slowly cooked via fire. No singular culture can claim it.
