The devil uses our own ego to tempt us to walk away from God. He did it in the garden when he told the woman she can get everything she wants, God is withholding from us, and tempts her to be her own god. The devil tried this with Jesus as well, he promised to give Jesus this world, and again we see the devil going after the ego. What I can't figure out is why I still chaise these things that I know will not satisfy. As you said it is easy to drift. I feel like God has told me that yesterday's manna will not cover today. Every day we need to seek him for his mercy's are new every morning. If I don't surrender today, then I will drift. Period.

Jesus says in Luke 9:23 you must deny yourself and take up your cross if you want to be my disciple. This act of taking one’s cross must be daily. It just as much as a mind as it’s a heart issue .
