    Thanks for uploading!! I was there, 11 years old, stood on a milk crate next to the Liverpool dugout with my Liverpool scarf on. Bob Paisley said 'Hi' to me at the start of the second half when he walked over!! I can hear myself on the video as a little voice shouting 'Liverpool' in between the chants of 'Southend'. Great night. Still have the programme.

    Took my son to see the Liverpool legends last night in Sydney and was telling him the story of going to this game with my late father and having cold feet in the snow on the terrace. Thanks so much for uploading this game.

    I remember the work to get this game played. Both club Managers were very supportive of the decision to allow the go ahead for the game. Great atmosphere. Keith Hackett Referee

    I was at this game, brilliant atmosphere. I'd forgotten Roots Hall could hold 30000 back then.

    The days when footballers were proper hard men. These days this would have been called off.

    I love how Roots Hall can only fit about 11,000 people but then, the stadium managed to fit 30,000 people! Fucking hell!

    I remember this game so well. I had to walk from Southchurch as the buses weren't running. I still have the programme. 50 years to the year since I first watched them (Bradford City Aug 1966; we won 2-1). I live in Sussex now but go with my grandson :-). I'm somewhere half way up the South Bank in this video. Thanks so much for bringing back memories.

      Hi Tom Lee. My first game watching THE BLUES was home to Scunthorpe in January 1965 (Lost 1-0). Saw them beat King's Lynn 9-0 in 1968, but unfortunately missed the game against Brentwood in the next round of the Cup. I watched this game against Liverpool at the back of the South Bank. Enjoyed the match, despite the snow, but would have loved to have seen the game in better conditions.

    Wow, brings back memories, I was there, 9 years old in 79 behind the Liverpool goal in the first half. Lived just across the road near priory park so didn't have far to travel. I was a massive Kenny Dalglish fan and to see him play was something I'll never forget.

    Look at the length of King Kenny's hair. But what a player, and what a great Liverpool team.

    This game would now be called off for 'Health and Safety' reasons , the pitch would have to look perfect , as if it was mid August on the first day of the season, as any blemishes or unsightly marks on it would 'upset ' the armchair viewer. All players would stay upright on their two feet for a full 90 minutes , and not throw themselves down on the ground, following a double faulsetto and triple somerslat in order to gain an advantage by getting a free kick or a penalty. Throw ins would be taken from where the ball went out on the touchline, and there would be no 7 or 8 minutes of 'time added on' for stoppages. Welcome to football as we one knew it and loved it.!

      +cohenhaywood10 Thanks for the response, yes im almost glad this season is over , except for Leicester City which was a refreshing change. im finding myself watching more and more vintage football in You Tube now. the fact that pitches at the end of the season look like the ones in August is very disturbing.!

      +slibby fryer A poster on Shrimperzone.com had a copy but didn't know how to get it onto TH-cam so passed it to me. I'm afraid I don't know how he got hold of the original VT, and I'm afraid that there is no word of the replay footage. Also delighted that this is bringing good memories to many.

    • @craiggerrard5117
      @craiggerrard5117 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +ShrimperTom The replay wasn't televised. I was there for the replay (Liverpool fan) and I remember it being pretty cold on the walk home, although no snow. Southend played well that night and put up a good fight, giving a much better account of themselves than some first division teams that yeat, but Liverpool were at a peak at that time and it wasn't surprising that it ended 3-0. One other thing I noted from this game is that the ref blew up on 90 minutes. These days injury time seems to last almost as long as the match itself.Thanks for posting - great to see.
