    The lead singer here is Jeff Allan Ross. He was the lead singer in one of the later iterations of Bad Finger after the suicides. He was the musical director for Peter Asher from Peter and Gordon. Recently he was backing up Al Jardine of the Beach Boys. Jeff is super talented musician!

      I'm not sure about these complaints. I've not found a way (yet) to raise the dead. This is as close as you are going to get to The Lovin' Spoonful. If you have an alternative, please let me know.

      @@RichardJCaudle You are correct. Two of the four original members are still in the band: bassist Steve Boone (who cowrote 'Summer In the City' and 'You Didn't Have To Be So Nice') and drummer Joe Butler. After John Sebastian (the only living original member no longer in the band) left Lovin' Spoonful in 1968, Butler became the lead singer.

    Lot of complaints about the lack of original band members in these groups. Which is fair. Most of these musicians have no historical lineage to the songs they sing. It would seem to me that calling these groups " A Tribute To . ." would be appropriate BUT you wouldn't sell as many tickets to see them

      It would be better if they didn't attempt to pass themselves off as "The Lovin' Spoonful". Many people (myself included) would like to know WHAT HAS HAPPENED to the original members...are they still alive? Are they in good/bad health? Are any of them still performing? Which musicians on stage WERE in the original Lovin' Spoonful? Etc, etc. Information like that would be truly interesting.
      I'm not against tribute bands, as I go and see them all the time. However, I dislike bands (or their promoters) claiming them to be the original, when they are clearly NOT.

    Looks like Steve Boone on bass, at least. Good to see him. These new guys seem good but they don't resonate the Spoonful fully. It was the personalities that made the band unique beyond Sebastian's excellent writing. I still may see the act to hear the covers, but would've preferred a lineup consisting of Butler as well, Sebastian especially, and Yanovsky if it was in any way possible!

    Richard why do you post these phony bands? You fake people out which is unfair.

    • @RichardJCaudle
      @RichardJCaudle  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      I'm not trying to fake anyone out. This band owns the rights to the name Lovin' Spoonful and is one of the many bands I saw on the recent Flower Power cruise and that's exactly how they were billed. True, only two original members are left. This cruise also had cover bands and perhaps that's what this is without John Sebastian, but they own the rights to the name. I don't know of any other Lovin' Spoonful cover bands, do you? Personally, I enjoyed hearing the songs even if they weren't as good as the original recordings. Bands from the 60s are often lucky to have even one original member. And I don't mind cover bands, but this band legally owns the rights to call themselves Lovin' Spoonful. Incidentally, John Sebastian has had throat problems and I'm not sure he even performs much anymore. I went to his website and didn't see any tour dates listed. The great thing about this Flower Power cruise is that you don't have to attend every event (and that's almost impossible there are so many). People can get up and leave. Didn't see many leaving for this show, and the venue was packed for two shows of Lovin' Spoonful songs. The Grass Roots on this show have no original members but I enjoyed hearing the songs of my childhood. And they also own the name because Rob Grill passed it on to them with his death. As time goes on, you get what you can, cover band or whatever. Thanks for expressing your view and I hope I answered your question.

    • @tinydancer62
      @tinydancer62 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @robertrosanelli444 Richard is not trying to fake anyone out. This band was billed as the Lovin' Spoonful on the cruise. Richard explained it perfectly in his reply. Not all of the bands still have original members, but those who don't, own the rights to use the band's names, such as the Grass Roots.
      The Lovin' Spoonful still has 2 original members, Joe Butler (who was not on the cruise) and Steve Boone.
      Most of the people on the cruise return every year, so obviously they are not bothered that the bands don't have all of the original members (which would be virtually impossible anyway, 60 years after the bands were famous)
      The few spots for the following year's cruise that are not re-booked on the ship are always out sold the first day they go on sale to the general public.

      Some of the bands performed in this theater setting but most didn't. There was music all over the ship from 10 AM until
      2 AM every day and this is the only location where people didn't dance , although some did on the sides of the theater. There are lots of other videos from the cruise in different locations on the ship where people are dancing. @RichardJCaudle  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      No. My AI skills are not that good yet. I can assure it was real. Now, not the LS you are used to but what's left and the only band to legally own and be able to use the LS name. Maybe it didn't sound nearly as good as the original recordings, but lots of us old hippies really enjoyed hearing these tunes from yesteryear. This was a huge 7-day floating music festival, and not my favorite band by far, but I thought I would include the, and a few folks are happy about it. But oh my gosh I'm I getting the hate about trying to fake people out. It's okay. I can take it. I won't hit the delete comment button. But out of the 13 band videos I've posted from that Flower Power cruise, this band is definitely the most disliked.

      @@RichardJCaudle So you're clearly a music fan...what constitutes making it ok for a a band to use the Original name..
      Is Foreigner really Foreigner anymore...Is They REALLY LS. ?...how many of the acts on that ship fit into this category...and were you really on a caver band cruise for 5,000.00

    • @tinydancer62
      @tinydancer62 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@sheldonlevine6187 What constitutes making it ok for a band to use the original name is the original band members consent for them to do so. They can't use the band's name unless they have their permission/legal rights. There is a current issue with the Guess Who, but they were not on this cruise. There is a band with one of the original members of the Guess Who, who has the legal use of the band's name, but Burton Cummings and Randy Bachman are now not allowing them to play songs written by either one of them in their concerts.

    • @sheldonlevine6187
      @sheldonlevine6187 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@tinydancer62 Yes..I know all about that case...and Cummings is 100% correct in my view....Here is the deal ....That is NOT LS...The guys touring as the Guess Who are NOT the Guess Who..I have NP with them touring and keeping the music alive... but the Billing as LS or The Guess Who IMPLIES original members or Key Members and that what ensures they can get 65.00 per ticket...if the bands were billed as what they were they'd never sell a 65.00 ticket..so that is Fraud are ripping off Music Fans of which you are clearly one
