hey thanks for watching! don't forget to leave a like and comment something vaguely related to the video so TH-cam sees you have "high viewer satisfaction", whatever that means...
Honestly that reminds me of when I rewatched the even stevens movie. She was leaving junior high too for high school and I’m just like there isn’t no way- she looks like she’s graduating high school 😭
Nope. I don't understand graduations for other reasons besides high and college graduation. Most people finish preschool, kindergarten, elementary school, and middle school. There's no need for other graduations. Apparently we just have to celebrate everything.
When I was a kid, I thought they were graduating from highschool. I rewatched it recently and was surprised to find it was a junior high graduation! These kids went to Rome, and barely had any adult supervision. Plus this guy Lizzie doesn't even know and (who obviously looks like a grown adult) snatched her up and pretty much uses her for his own benefit. 😐
NO LITERALLY I was like wait junior high???? and they went to an EXPENSIVE field trip to italy like the whole movie was just hilariously unrealistic that i could watch it again
OMG thank you!! I always hated the whole Paulo thing!! Like he’s basically an older guy going after a minor but the movie tried to make it okay by saying he’s 17 and not technically 18 like… no my dude she was 14.
Up until That's So Raven, all Disney shows had a 65 episode limit (the minimum recquired for syndication) because they didn't want the characters to get too much older than their demographic.
I am still terrified of the thought of a 13 year-old girl coming up to me and calling me, a full-grown 26-year-old Masters student, an outfit repeater.
I totally agree with what you said at the end. They definitely don’t make teen shows/movies like they used to. I blame gossip girl for that (and I’m a huge gossip girl fan) lol after that all shows became so angsty and overly sexualized imo.
@@pleaseshutup7053 i agree that the vampire era definitely added fuel to the fire but I still strongly believe gossip girl help to set it up. It came out before even Vampire Diaries. They set up the foundation for it to be more mainstream to be edgy and have over the top drama and gimmicks imo. And yes you’re right there were some shows/movies that were sexualized before too. I guess what I meant was that there where more teen shows/movies that weren’t like that. Idk how to explain it but the vibe is definitely different now. 😅 you don’t see even “chick flicks” for adult like they had in the early 2000s anymore. Magic has definitely been lost. Everything is so “edgy” now. Idkkk 🤷🏻♀️
@@CodigoMel there was the oc. One tree hill 90210 and Melrose place. I think you are giving too much credit to gossip girl even if it was an amazing show.
Yes totally agree!! There was more of a wholesomeness and charm to older teen movies and shows back then. Sure they were cheesy and embarrassing, but isn’t that what being a teenager was like? Now it has to sexualize minors and make them do crazy things in order for people to be remotely interesting. You can’t have a normal party scene without them going overboard on drugs and sleeping with everyone. I think around the time social media started coming into play, it definitely played a huge role as to why a lot of younger people both in shows and real life act the way they do now due to the pressure of trying to be trendy for a like and recognition whereas a teen back then like Lizzie only had to worry about maybe winning best dressed at school.
I think the reason this movie works is that it isn't a guy being like "oh my God you are so beautiful I have to speak to you" it's about a totally terrible person that sees a high schooler and thinks "oh my God I just came up with the perfect plan to get back at my ex" and although it's not great at least it's different. 🤣
The funny thing is, at some point the movie isabella says to Lizzie, who are you going to believe a man that you've met for a few days or someone you've known for your whole life. Probably the most sensible line the movie
I know!!!! also I just watch the movie again and I can't see Gordo's hurt face without feeling bad when Lizzie said that she feels as she has met Paolo her whole life when practically Gordo has been there since they were on diapers
The funny thing is that Paolo's plan would have failed regardless, cause Lizzie could sing great, as we saw immediately after when she carried the whole show on her own. And Paolo heard her during rehearsals, so he knew. Maybe he was counting on her to panic and freeze
Not to mention that people would've realised that she was just a naive kid in a foreign country that was being manipulated and taken advantage of. Paolo would've gone to jail.
On my argument, Lizzie had to pretend to lip sing during rehearsals and not actually sing so Paolo clearly had no idea how she sung. Not to mention but she would have froze if things didn't work out on stage. She said so herself earlier in the film that she had stage fright. Didn’t Paolo want her to get caught lip singing anyways to get Isabella into trouble?
@@isobelduncan I can imagine Paolo getting her off of the stage and taking her elsewhere away from the press telling her not to talk so that he wouldn't get caught red handed.
The older Disney Channel shows/ DCOMS had a kind of charm and sincerity about them. As did a lot of the stars of those shows. A lot of the newer stuff is missing life. It all seems like a product off of an assembly line.
Omg same thoughts. Like the older DC shows and DCOMs(Even Stevens, Lizzie McGuire, That's So Raven etc) did have goofy funny moments, but there was still a relateable and natural realism to them that had heart and anyone could connect with. Now all the shows and movies are just EXTREME over acting and cringy dumb comedy that tries way too hard and seems so empty
Thank u, even tho I am born in 93, there r A LOT of Disney Channel movies from 1997-2005 that I only saw for the first time as an adult and I can tell u that a lot of them hit u harder emotionally, and tell their stories with a boldness that a lot of the more recent films lack. For example, there was one called Quints, I saw it for the 1st time in my life last year and yes the premise of a 13 year old girl's mom having quintuplets was silly but it was rooted in relatability and enough emotion to make it work.
11:51 this has to be one of the most reused scenes out of all romcoms *girl and boy stare at pretty scenery, often fireworks* Girl: It’s so beautiful 🥰 Boy: *turns to look at girl* Yes, it is. JSKDKSD JUST STOP ALREADY PLEASE
She literally was never GASLIT (not gaslighted, just saying). This isnt personal, it's just i see so many people online using that word without actually knowing the definition. It's just a pet peeve of mine.
I loved how they just sent an unaccompanied minor to the airport in a foreign country to get on a impromptu international flight, which he just never got on btw. Did they alert his parents? If so did they worry that they child just never arrived? I had questions even as a kid lol
That's true! And a minor who confessed of sneaking out during the trip. Why is he had skipped the airport and go around on his own instead of back to the group?
Dude I was watching an anime where the middle schoolers were just talking and playing a game for a good long time, and I'm like "where is the teacher and why aren't they in trouble?" I guess it was free time, but they were greeting each other like it was morning. So, what time did class start? This is when my mom reminds me the characters aren't real, and I remind her that I know that.
This might be very wrong, but I honestly think part of it is that a lot of "teen" shows today aren't really aimed at teens anymore. They fall into one of two categories 1. teens are played by adults and have a lot of storylines centered on sex and relationships and sometimes the supernatural to attract older audiences in addition to teens 2. teens are played by teens, but the show is trying to attract younger audiences (preteen or even younger), so they simplify and sanitize the jokes and writing. Even though the 2000s weren't really realistic examples of teen life, I feel like writers today have no incentive to attempt to depict teen life realistically and honestly just might not understand it themselves because Gen Z's high school culture changes rapidly compared to school in the 2000s or even 2010s. People are either unable or unwilling to make ages 13-18 be both interesting and realistic to an audience of 13-18 year olds.
Lizzie for sure was an awkward teen. Today companies think kids and teen shows should make you feel good about yourself. Don’t know if you notice but now teen shows don’t have anymore an episode where someone had issues with alcohol, drugs or guns.
euphoria, elite, sex education, the end of the fucking world, etc are rly good shows from these past few years without supernatural. most teen shows aren't gon' be made with teens, like 95%, bcus of labour laws hun xD that's just how it is emxmwxmw
You put this into words so well, I totally agree! Plus I also think that the teens of today do everything in their power to skip the tween/ awkward teen phase, trying to jump directly to the older teen/YA phase. I don’t know if it’s because these types of movies influenced them or if other changes in culture brought these shifts in both teen mentality and teen movies
Speaking of Hillary Duff... How haven't you done "a Cinderella story" movie! That was early 2000s gold! Even had a huge following to just the movie and everyone wanted a tv show made back in the day! Add it to the list!
In case anyone didn't know, the actress who plays the principal is Alex Borstein. She does basically 90% of the female voices on family guy including Lois.
I forgot about the custodian slander in this. As a highschool custodian now I'm a little offended. Making $25/hour, all of the benefits, and all holidays off is a bad thing? 😆 also the easiest job I've ever had.
You were in a better school than I was, the "popular" kids here acted nice but they definitely really looked down on everyone not wearing brands or at least a new closet every season.
Another creator (I can’t remember her name) on tik tok talked about the “dumbification” of Disney channel and how there is a clear shift between how Disney was when we watched it (early 2000s) and how it covered things like race, inequality, etc. but modern Disney shows lack all depth and act as though the young audience is too “dumb” to enjoy deeper topics. I wish I could remember the creators name lol
I was just typing out a comment similar to this. I feel like the older 2000’s Disney still had silly jokes but didn’t assume their audience couldn’t handle more serious topics. I think as our attention spans have gotten shorter children’s media has adapted by making shows that fully rely on quick, most of the time silly or outrageous jokes.
@@xomisskittyxoxo I don’t think the viewers are to blame, but the parents and the international market. Andi Mack was the last great Disney channel show to be made, and it was very difficult to sell internationally due to Cyrus being gay. His coming out was even censored in some countries; whereas others simply dropped the series as retaliation. It’s much easier to make mundane and over the top shows that are bland but wont get criticized and/or would be difficult to sell.
I agree! I’m 33 and miss the old Disney channel! They would drop so many gems and life lessons in their shows. One movie I loved was The Color of Friendship where it involved racial tension and culture shock.
What happened is that around 2003, Disney Channel stopped purchasing content from independent producers and started their own in-house production company.
If I had to guess: Modern writers aren't worse at writing teen rom coms, it's that the corporations that produce them figured out they did not need to spend the money for a decent script to get the returrns they wanted out of these movies. I'm sure there are plenty of writers out there that could turn out a decent teen movie, but you would need to pay a premium for the higher production. Why do that, when you can spend less on writing, editing and casting and still get a similar profit? Its unfortunate, but it seems as though as the movie business gets better at the financial aspect of movie making, movie quality suffers.
Yeah that's the problem in all of Hollywood. They don't care about good writing because they can have good special effects for cheap. They expect to distract us from the terrible writing because of pretty lights and effects. Look at all of the superhero movies put out recently. Wooden dialogue, trite and predictable plot, but cool looking special effects. And as long as people keep throwing money at them they will ONLY get worse. It doesn't even matter anymore if literally everyone in the west didn't watch a single movie Hollywood put out. They more than make up for it from Asia. Those movies make billions mostly from China. Until people get tired of crappy writing hiding behind cool editing it will only get worse.

@@WhitneyDahlin I half agree with you. If we talking about MCU, yes indeed because they under Disney. For DC, it's quite mixed. There's a few gem here and there. WB executive is fighting with their own production team. To do generic superhero movie like josstice league or make it great like joker. My favourite DC movie is still watchmen director's cut (2009). It's 10 years too early because the boys now are copying it
@@boboboy8189 I hope they go the joker route!! I did enjoy that movie a lot! And even including DC that's still most of the superhero movies being put out have bad writing. And outside of superhero movies even, Fast and Furious 10 comes out this year. 10!! It's going to make bank over seas and this franchise will continue long after we're all dead lol. Luckily streaming services are funding so many things that they end up funding are some really good written shows and movies! But then they also fund things like Riverdale so you really have to weed through the trash to find the gems. I just think it's really sad how rare good writing is when decent writing used to be the norm because they couldn't hide behind special effects. Special effects honestly made movies so much worse than they were without the effects.
A "friend" once called me out for wear the same shirt twice in front of like 20 people. WTF? Does she not have a washing machine? We're not friends anymore that was the last straw.

When I watched this movie again recently I was like "sooo... we just aren't going to discuss the fact there is one chaperone for a group of teens that big?"

As someone who has never seen a lot of these Disney channel movies - but remembers hearing about them in some form when I was younger - this is definitely the single best way to watch them now that I am older
Slight disagree. Get at least two friends and have a binge-a-thon with alcohol (assuming youre an adult). Super fun to make fun and sing with them. Then watch Alex’s videos😂

I love the older 2000s teen movies so much. Nowadays I feel like they over sexualize the teen characters so much it makes me uncomfortable to watch it.
Along with the weird sister vibes, the movie completely ignores the fact she's being romanced by a guy at least 16 or 17 while she's 14. It would be more palatable if she were a high schooler graduate rather than one leaving MIDDLE SCHOOL.
Honestly LOL. I was supposed to go to italy for my hs graduation as part of my focus and they cancelled it due to budget cuts LMAO. That trip was the whole reason why I decided to do humanities
Fun Fact: In Rome the most popular cheese according to a Google Search is Pecorino Romano. That particular cheese wheel looks nothing like what is in this movie so I decided to .25 the playback speed starting at 07:25 with the sound off because demons. To my knowledge all cheese wheels have indented into them the type of cheese, age, environment, location, or some combination thereof. Apparently it's a pretty big industry. Putting aside the happy cheese wheel Italian lady's possible golden tooth, I eventually reach 07:37 and *ENHANCE* "Parmigiano" is slapped on that wheel. Pop over to Google and...yeah, looks pretty close. Some issues, but let's take it at face value. In short: The wheel that joyful Golden Toothed Italian Woman gave to Lizzie is likely a Parmigiano-Reggiano. Aka -> Parmesan. IT WEIGHTS 82 LBS, OR JUST OVER 37kg. If you want your own and don't live in or near Italy, you can purchase one on Amazon for the low-low price of around 1,200 US dollars. Anyway, back to the show! Edit: I forgot to move the playback speed back to x1.00 and now there's a dark shadow on my ceiling...
I can tell you what happened that you were asking about in the end. We started treating preteens like toddlers, and teens like preteens, and anyone under 21 like they weren't well on their way toward being/already being an adult.
The first time I watched this I swear they were graduating High School, now you tell me they're in middle school and I'm like... YOU ARE TELLING ME THIS WHOLE STORY IS HAPPENING WHEN THEY ARE LIKE 14?! WTF
This came up because I watched the movie last night. After Aaron Carter passed away I wanted to re-watch Lizzie McGuire. I enjoy how they released the episodes out of order so they made no real sense but covered up the fact that Miranda wasn't in the last six of them, including the one where it was revealed Gordo had a huge crush on Lizzie (which was ignored the entire rest of the season and movie). But man... I'm disappointed. Disappointed that the show was canceled (I think?). Disappointed in the way the movie went. As a kid I thought Lizzie and Gordo had A LOT more on screen time together and formed a real bond and relationship not just share one kiss and the movie ended lmao. Disappointed there wasn't even the revival. Adam Lambert deserved better and we deserved to see Lalaine again.
They were graduating MIDDLE SCHOOL?! Just a year later, we got The Incredibles, and Bob comments, "It's not a real graduation! They're moving from one grade to the next! These people keep finding ways to celebrate mediocrity!" Makes you wonder if someone from Pixar was taking an underhanded shot at this movie...
Pretty confident that the decline in teen movies directly correlates with the creation and continued popularization of TH-cam, and how writers and market researchers began thinking they understood, "the youths."
the older movies play more into our teenage delusions back then is what comes to my mind. going to europe as barely a teen to fall in love with an Italian celebrity and being betrayed seems pretty delusional to me.
My sister loved Lizzie McGuire so we went to theatres for this. I will always remember that Agent Cody Banks was in theatres at the same time (which also featured Hilary Duff) and when the opening credits started, until the title reveal, we genuinely questioned whether we somehow walked into Agent Cody Banks by mistake 😂
I think the trend with Disney movies is they’re becoming more and more attractive to kids and more and more detached from reality. One of the visual signs is how much more ‘cartoony’ the cartoons are. The eyes have flipped in size to look more aggressively childlike.
I am an Indian, and am unaware of most of the shows and nostalgia associated with them, but still Alex and his videos never fail to make me laugh. Now, I have as much knowledge about the movies and shows as him.

when i was in 1st grade we had this event at school called "family day" and it would have themes for the class performances for the parents and stuff. so basically my class was assigned the theme of the Lizzie McGuire movie and we did a dance performance lip synced to the song at the end from the film. anyway we were supposed to "dress up" like lizzie and none of us understood that at all because she was a white 14 year old and we were 6 year old filipino kids and we were still just toddling based on how our parents understood that assigment
Oh my godddd 😆 Same but with High School Musical! Each section/class was assigned a song to dance to and ours was “We’re All in This Together”. I remember being really happy with that because I really didn’t want the hassle of trying to do “Bop to the Top”- costume, choreo and all xDDD
When I was a senior in high school, we went to Italy for a choir trip and we had a teacher chaperone who looked just like Miss Ungermeyer and we got her to do the airport speech to the parents while we were on the plane and it was honestly such a great way to conclude my childhood

I graduated high school 7 years ago but what always haunts me is when I was in History class for my senior year, two girls in front of me were chatting and I heard them say they never wear the same outfit twice, including shoes. I have never felt more poor in my life.
"the popular kids" is just another way of saying "the kids with rich parents". once you realize very little of your social standing in HS is actually in your control, a lot of the pressure is relieved. at least for me it was

I love how I watched this movie, literally 100 times, and in all those times I never accepted that it was a middle school graduation, even though they said it multiple times.
I loved this movie back in middle school and liked the soundtrack. And Hillary Duff is great. As cheesey this film is but at least she didn't end up with Paolo then he magically redeem himself near the end and decided to go after Lizzie. Btw Gordo and Lizzie were the friendship turn lovers I liked. Say can you review Cadet Kelly?
The way that 20 YEARS LATER anime shows still show minors hanging out with grownups in foreign settings... unrealistic, WEIRD expectations for the youth.
As soon as I saw the “Baby Bottle Pop” commercial, nostalgia immediately kicked in and I remembered the “Socker Boppers” commercial. More fun than a pillow fight, apparently
The best thing about this movie is the actual drip Lizzie is sporting the whole time, I mean half the outfits she changed into at the beginning were straight off the runway, her necklace is Tiffany, and then the makeover scene 😍
i LOVE this movie: the soundtrack, the plot, and hilary duff. i’m about to go to europe for 2 weeks, and i really wanted to go to italy because of this movie (but i’ll be going to 3 other countries instead). the criticism you give is always fun to watch, so i appreciate the time you put into making this
A few episodes aired after the movie, but those episodes shared similar events that happened in the movie, I guess for the kids who didn't see the movie. There's a murder mystery episode where Kate pulls Lizzie aside and tells her "Gordo's clearly in love with you!" and Lizzie is like "?? No way?", just like in the movie. Drove me nuts.
i think the episodes were filmed over the course of 2 years but were aired over the course of 4 years. the lizzie mcguire movie was filmed after the episodes were done being filmed so the movie aired in between episodes which doesnt really connect with the timing of lizzie during the show. the movie came out in 2003 and she graduates..but the last episodes aired around 2004 and she was still in middle school.
okay as a high school custodian staff; 2-month summer vacation, union member, and a 9 to 5 work week: that guy knows its his last act before a paid vacation lol
There was supposed to be a sequel but Hillary Duff’s mom was such a nightmare and demanded so much that the studio said “You know what? Forget this. Forget Lizzie Mcguire.” So if anybody wants someone to blame: Hillary’s mom was so unpleasant to work with that disney was willing to give up a sure fire blockbuster.
I’ve heard this also, but it was just her mum- Hilary was super young and pretty much whatever her mum says went. I don’t blame her at all- if anything her parents will be to blame for how overworked she was, But ALSO for how quickly people stopped employing her.
The show was about middle school and the Lizzie McGuire show was only 3seasons. It was more that Hillary was done with that faze of her life and wanted to try new things.
@@softea267 I completely agree, it’s more her mom than anything but when you’re a child actor unfortunately that means your guardian comes with you. The damage to her reputation was already done when her mom was no longer in charge sadly.

"Teen" shows now are insane and I'm scared of teenagers if that's how they really act lol Oooh speaking of old movies, anyone remember Zenon? I loved that stupid movie b/c of the ending song haha
I comment on just about every Lizzie McGuire movie video about how frustrating the Lizzie/Gordo kiss at the end is. Gordo Pine for Lizzie for the entire second season of Lizzie Maguire. He pined for her for the entire movie. And then they finally get a moment together. They go up the elevator. They look at it the beautiful view. She kisses him. And then he says “thanks” and then leaves to go back downstairs, where they just were like 30 seconds ago. They didn’t get the romance they deserved. There was no real buildup, because the yearning and pining was one-sided. Lizzie kissing Gordo came out of nowhere. It is the most disappointing slow burn in the history of slow burns. I was cheering for them for the entire run of that show, just to be let down so hard.
Of all the possible scenes in the movie the lady gifting a 40kg cheese wheel with an average cost of 800-900€ to a complete stranger always gets me. Also don’t get me started on the wrong Italian accent spoken ✨ a masterpiece ✨
i've seen a few video essays about "why today's cartoon sucks" that very basically theorize that the shift in how kids consume and share media drove a shift from storyline focused content to gif-able content. so it doesnt matter is an entire episode wasn't very good/appealing, as long as it had a couple of scenes or lines that resonated enough to be captured and shared online, the episode is considered good and successful. so maybe that shift in media is also affecting YA movies? or ya know maybe we're just too old to relate to the new culture the younguns today are making lol
It says alot about the 'masterminds' writing and directing this movie, the fact that it would be a ''silly kids prank'' to film a sibling changing. I mean, it seems a plot from Law & Order Special Victims Unit.
The Paolo and Lizzie "romance" was actually quite cute, until you remember that a grown man is taking advantage of a minor. On another note, I do like how Sergei (the bodyguard) defends and aids Lizzie at the end, calling Paolo out on his bullshit.

Honestly this is one of my comfort movies and I can probably quote all of it at this point. It was so weird hearing all those lines without the accompanying music XD And I have to say I was shocked that Alex didn't put up the grandma when they kiss at the end, but he's right it's a ridiculously short kiss XD
As I think about it, both Nickelodeon and Disney have very weird implicit beliefs about what constitutes "family-friendliness." Many of Nick's sitcoms have had blatant statutory rape jokes, foot fetishism, and protags being quite cruel to other people, and Disney's sitcoms have (at least) traditionally contained a surprising (or not) amount of classism and other forms of prejudice. Anywho, I would love a deeper analysis into why older kid sitcoms are often more "watchable," and if that's just nostalgia talking.
Yet there are people who bash newer flicks for agenda pushing when these elements, which are probably even more problematic, are present in these "classic" flicks.
Disney movies always made me think that my male friends had some ulterior motives about hanging out with me. And while most of them did, the one friend who I swore was secretly in love with me was actually asexual and so I made him feel really uncomfortable when I tried to kiss him bc I thought movies were so similar to real life and that he MUST be in love with me bc why else would he hang around? No, he just genuinely enjoys being my friend and now he’s my most trusted friend who I know would never hurt me and would do anything to protect me. Guys and girls can be friends without it ever turning romantic
16:20 I think it has to do with the fact that back then, movies and teen shows were more... "sincere." Now, because of the internet and social media, teen shows are trying to hard to be relevant and go viral
This movie was literally my introduction to Alex Borstien as an actor so that by the time I first watched Family Guy and saw the credits I was like 'Hey, that chick from the Lizzie Maguire movie voices someone (I didn't know it was Lois til later) in this'.
I don’t know how I never put together that Lizzie’s brother was recording her change outfits to embarrass/blackmail her, but it’s hilariously creepy when you think about it. 😂
I never understood how Paolo's whole plan was to embarrass Isabella/Lizzie by showing how she can't sing, when it turns out Lizzie could sing all along and performs at the end anyway
He was banking on a random person he got off the street not being able to sing. He just happened to be wrong, because Lizzie liked singing. Like, lets say I just grabbed a random person off the street. What are the odds they have the ability to sing at the same level as a famous, trained pop idol?
They were middle schoolers?! Also the movie's 19 years old?! *rapidly ages & turns to dust* P. S. My favorite episode is the one where the McGuire hosted a murder mystery night although the only thing I remembered is the mom being the killer.
"Back when I was in school I always thought it was weird how there was all these unwritten rules that girls had for each other for like no reason" Well to be fair, its exactly shows like these that cultivates these ideas in us. In 6th grade you don't come up with that shit on your own. But you see characters you adore wear a new, glamorous outfit everyday, or get embarrassed wearing the same one twice... it does something to you as an impressionable young girl:/ it was never written about boys' characters in children's TV, adults only found in necessary to write about girls. You grow up thinking "this is what girls are like, this is how I am supposed to be".
at this point, I wonder who came up with the idea that you're not supposed to repeat outfits - I'd assume its a rich people thing that showing off new dresses is necessary to show off your status and prove you're worthy of getting married? just guessing here, but thats how I imagine it must have started.
She and her whole class are going to Rome without their parents? For Jr. High graduation? My school didn't even have a high school senior class trip that crossed two state lines, much less leave the country. 4:11 "An outfit repeater"?!? What am I supposed to do, buy 365 different outfits every year for my entire life?!? "Oh yeah, I never wear the same socks. After I wear them once I give them to my little brother or sister to wear." 6:30 Smooth sailing in highschool?!? Better luck getting a flying unicorn in your favorite color who telepathically talks to you and gives you only good advice. 9:20 "It's complicated" he said, not telling her that he had stalked her for years and had the bodies of all her ex-boyfriends creamated and mixed in with the dirt in his garden where he grew the most beautiful flowers imaginable.

The fact that I didn't realize she was LEAVING MIDDLE SCHOOL astounds me. Idk why I always thought she was graduating highschool
90% of us all did.
Hol on I didn't even pick up on that one
Honestly that reminds me of when I rewatched the even stevens movie. She was leaving junior high too for high school and I’m just like there isn’t no way- she looks like she’s graduating high school 😭
She does not look like a middle schooler, she does look like she’s in high school, not like 6th grade

I also thought it went on longer than that
Up until That's So Raven, all Disney shows had a 65 episode limit (the minimum recquired for syndication) because they didn't want the characters to get too much older than their demographic.
@Danbo22987 exactly what I was just going to say.

I totally agree with what you said at the end. They definitely don’t make teen shows/movies like they used to. I blame gossip girl for that (and I’m a huge gossip girl fan) lol after that all shows became so angsty and overly sexualized imo.
Teen shows were sexualizes back then. What changed things was the vampire era every show can’t just be about life it’s gotta have a special hook to it
@@pleaseshutup7053 i agree that the vampire era definitely added fuel to the fire but I still strongly believe gossip girl help to set it up.
@@CodigoMel I think what changed things was high school musical
Actually he sees a middle schooler. It was the only cringy thing about the movie.
yeah its realistic for a grown man to take advantage of a teen girl rather than fall head over heels in love with her
I liked the twist
Maybe it works. But I feel like Alex saying Spy Kids 2 is worse than THIS movie is an olympic level stretch lol.
I'd say they did the twist villain way better than Frozen!
Paolo would've gone to jail.
yeah i dont see where he was going w/ that like why would he just assume she'd bomb lmao
@@isobelduncan why would he of gone to jail for ?
Finally someone thinks the same way I do!
I don’t like any new shows.

When i watched this as a kid, Lizzie was like 25 so i had zero questions😂😂
That’s because cable is dead. It’s the age of the streaming wars too. People care more about twitch and TikTok now
Lizzie for sure was an awkward teen.

What happened is that around 2003, Disney Channel stopped purchasing content from independent producers and started their own in-house production company.
before they went WOKE!

Herself 😂
Yeah...
That's why I think it's one of the reasons why I can't stand her as an actress. As a person, obviously she's a sweetheart but her acting...ughhhh.
Have you seen Agent Cody Banks?? Her acting was AWFUL
@@lynettebr And Foodfight! Everyone (mainly Charlie Sheen) sounded like they were very half-asleep because of how incompetent this piece of shit is!
Alex Meyers is the David Gordon of TH-cam. All the ingredients are there: Nerd, Real, Sarcastic and Beautiful.
Well said 👌🏽
Yesssss
I thought you said Gordo meaning chubby or fat in Spanish 😭🤚🏾
@@introvert_who1641 OMG DEFINITELY NOT WHAT I MEANT
Haha yussss
I love that Gordo's hair just gets bigger in the animation haha
This movie was a lot of fun, and nobody is changing my mind.
It's what dreams are made of.
Nobody can slander this movie it’s just a fun happy movie
I see what you did there. Lol
Same
Hey now! You are absolutely right😂😂
Sings: Hey hey hey hey...!
when i was in 1st grade we had this event at school called "family day" and it would have themes for the class performances for the parents and stuff. so basically my class was assigned the theme of the Lizzie McGuire movie and we did a dance performance lip synced to the song at the end from the film. anyway we were supposed to "dress up" like lizzie and none of us understood that at all because she was a white 14 year old and we were 6 year old filipino kids and we were still just toddling based on how our parents understood that assigment
lmaooooo
That is really funny! What a memory! Thanks for sharing. This makes my day.
Oh my godddd 😆 Same but with High School Musical! Each section/class was assigned a song to dance to and ours was “We’re All in This Together”. I remember being really happy with that because I really didn’t want the hassle of trying to do “Bop to the Top”- costume, choreo and all xDDD
Please tell me I’m not the only one who remembers this movie being marketed with Hilary and her sister Hailee as Lizzie and Isabella???
My favourite thing about this movie was Kate finally getting her act together and becoming a good person.
When I was a senior in high school, we went to Italy for a choir trip and we had a teacher chaperone who looked just like Miss Ungermeyer and we got her to do the airport speech to the parents while we were on the plane and it was honestly such a great way to conclude my childhood
“I love her like a sister” “so why’d you break up?” Are you serious, Lizzy??
This was one of my favorite movies as a young kid, watching it now I’m like “these are children doing all this in Italy unsupervised “. I thought they were so old and mature lol
I think its because she looks at least 17 😂
I graduated high school 7 years ago but what always haunts me is when I was in History class for my senior year, two girls in front of me were chatting and I heard them say they never wear the same outfit twice, including shoes. I have never felt more poor in my life.
"the popular kids" is just another way of saying "the kids with rich parents". once you realize very little of your social standing in HS is actually in your control, a lot of the pressure is relieved. at least for me it was
Lol, it a waste of money to buy clothes to wear them once. They likely lying or genuinely spoilt rotten. Twats really, only a twat would buy something to wear it once.
if they never wear the same outfit twice, it just kinda shows that they're not as creative. plus some outfits are just too good to only be worn once!
0:50 Oof, an ad that aged like milk
I love how I watched this movie, literally 100 times, and in all those times I never accepted that it was a middle school graduation, even though they said it multiple times.
I loved this movie back in middle school and liked the soundtrack. And Hillary Duff is great.
As cheesey this film is but at least she didn't end up with Paolo then he magically redeem himself near the end and decided to go after Lizzie.
Btw Gordo and Lizzie were the friendship turn lovers I liked.
Say can you review Cadet Kelly?
Cadet kelly is that brand new baby smell you never knew you wanted.
Blow em up put your hands inside. NOW ITS TIME FOR THE TIME OF YOUR LIFE!
Blow em up, put your hand inside. Get ready to have the time of your life!
Never had them, but that song is forever burned in my brain.
The best thing about this movie is the actual drip Lizzie is sporting the whole time, I mean half the outfits she changed into at the beginning were straight off the runway, her necklace is Tiffany, and then the makeover scene 😍
i LOVE this movie: the soundtrack, the plot, and hilary duff. i’m about to go to europe for 2 weeks, and i really wanted to go to italy because of this movie (but i’ll be going to 3 other countries instead). the criticism you give is always fun to watch, so i appreciate the time you put into making this
“La la la! See? I can go solo!” -Paulo.
I can’t explain why but this was the biggest inside joke in high school. Every day I heard it.
Seeing those commercials comically placed within the fast-forward segment gave me some legit nostalgia :)
I totally forgot about the hairgami thing and I instantly was like BABY BOTTLE POP BAAABYY BOTTLE POP when the baby bottle pop one came on.
There was supposed to be a sequel but Hillary Duff’s mom was such a nightmare and demanded so much that the studio said “You know what? Forget this. Forget Lizzie Mcguire.”
So if anybody wants someone to blame: Hillary’s mom was so unpleasant to work with that disney was willing to give up a sure fire blockbuster.
I am confused for the answers to this comment. Who was even blaming Hilary? What damage to her reputation?
@@jessicav931 Hillary was blacklisted, her show was cancelled, bc of her mom’s demands and attitude. She was considered a nightmare to work with and her mom was her manager.
I had a weird crush on Gordo as a kid haha I kinda remember watching this movie back then too. I miss this era, everyone was so much more innocent.
He was not grown, I believe he was supposed to be 17
Grown in the sense he’s like three years older than her
@@dot.3391 Buddy, if you think this isn't happening every day across America, you're delusional. Want another fact that feels like a fever dream? 12 years old is the age of consent in Angola and The Philippines. The world is fucked up, and a 3 year difference between a 17 and a 14 year old is the LEAST of those problems.
That is completely normal and acceptable in Europe. Don't apply your American standards
@@durapider5046 To be fair, shes an American girl. And MOST American girls are straight braindead for the first 23 or so years of their life. Don't apply your European standards to American girls, eh?
Okay but Gordo saying “Thank... you...” after she kissed him is the best part of the whole movie 👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼🤣🤣🤣
I remember saying that the first time my bf said “I love you” 😂
4:54 😅😅😅 "Two failed marriages and a mortgage"
I think the Disney Executives saw how they could have Lizzie play the 2 roles, and the whole pop star gimmick.
The movie did fairly well.
And then from this they made the premise of the Miley Cyrus show 🤔🤷♀️ just saying.
Hannah Montana
Oh Geez, yeah that seems very likely
Would have been a lot better if they had just continued the show, but turned it into Hannah with Hillary playing her, and Hannah being Lizzie.
@@NotoriousLightning yes Lizzie could have been Hanna Montana
Hannah Montana was also inspired from an episode of That's So Raven when Raven pretended to be a pop star "Liz Ana".
9:39 not gonna lie this plays through my head anytime a big o’ red flag pops up in a show/movie I’m watching or any book I read.
WTF. I always thought the class was graduating from high school and not middle school.
What are the odds they have the ability to sing at the same level as a famous, trained pop idol?
he probably thought she'd freeze up and panic, being a tween who's never done a concert before
But I figured that was just Isabella lipsynking for her. That Lizzie just got to be the performer for the night with Isabella’s help.
6:50 I’ve coined this phenomenon, “The bella swan effect”
They were middle schoolers?! Also the movie's 19 years old?! *rapidly ages & turns to dust*
P. S. My favorite episode is the one where the McGuire hosted a murder mystery night although the only thing I remembered is the mom being the killer.
No way is it 19 years old. How old do I feel omg
It's 20 now x
the nostalgia is real with this classic that it made me and every girl want to visit Italy and potentially meet some cute guy at some point
"Back when I was in school I always thought it was weird how there was all these unwritten rules that girls had for each other for like no reason"
Well to be fair, its exactly shows like these that cultivates these ideas in us.
That "okay back to the show" will forever be ICONIC
I cackled so hard at "say no more sister" and the sounds of the hair makeover 😂 Alex stay awesome. Thanks for making me laugh.
You sound like such a sweet person
I was looking for a comment like this bc same it was so funny 😭
I absolutely love your channel. I'm going through a rough time in my life and your comedy makes it so much easier. Thank you.
I loved this movie. Lizzie McGuire was just so cute and fun. You felt like you could actually relate to her, or at least I did.
I did too. She was always the normal kid. Not popular but had friends
same and i thought i was a guy.
Showed my Italian brother in law this movie and he got so mad at Paolo. He was like “YOU CANNOT RIDE A VESPA THERE! THAT’S CLEARLY AREA PEDONALE!”
After I wear them once I give them to my little brother or sister to wear."
