Bruce, I currently use Sierra. But to be honest MIDI-OX on the PC is in my view a better tool. It is more configurable for working with older kit. Jon

Hi, I did all the process but I'm missing the midisettings file do you know where can I get it? Thanks!

I might have the full SYSEX somewhere, but I can’t get access to it at the moment. However, what I would do is spend $10 on eBay and buy a clone disk. It will be the best $10 your spend.

@@TheMusicTechGuyUK Thanks, I finally made it, somehow it worked with the midi in and midi out conected both ways, I'm already having fun with it :) the struggle now is with the sequencer, I've already tried to use an external sequencer but I guess I have to study a bit more the manual to get it working

I warn you now the sequencer, while functional for a keyboard of this age, will require a degree of patience.

I have a korg 01/w fd and i will connect it with sysex librarian. Do i have to do the same global settings? Also, do i have to change these settings again to the default when i will disconnect it?

Hi Ermis. The bottom line when undertaking a SYSEX style restore is that you only need unprotect the areas of the memory that you are restoring too.
Again this is a Synth that I do not own so these are general comments for the Korg Synths:
      - If you are restoring combis, programs, sequences and settings then all memory protects must be off and you need to use a ‘load all’ option.
      - If you are just restoring the combis and programs, the sequence data or global setting then only the memory protects for that area need to be switch off and when you tell the synth what you are loading you just restrict it to the specific area. Failure to do this will just throw an error as the wrong data is being trying to be inserted into the the wrong place in the synth.
Once you have finished loading, reset the protections to ON to ensure you don’t accidentally overwrite that area.
If you are constantly loading data from a librarian then it might be better to just leave the settings off, if you are comfortable to do so. Jon

Can I use the cables usb to midi in and out and bypass the interface?

I am not sure I understand the question? You need an interface to translate the USB signal to MIDI. This can be a simple cable that has USB A one end and two MIDI connections the other end for IN and OUT. Or as I use a MIDI Man device.
I stopped using a single cable setup as I found that while it worked kind of OK for note transmission, doing other operations like SYSEX consistently failed.
I hope that I have interpreted this correctly. Jon

Is it possible to dump one single program from Korg T1/T2/T3 to computer?

    • @TheMusicTechGuyUK
      @TheMusicTechGuyUK  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

The T1 allows you to copy single Combinations, Programs and sequences to and from disk. It also allows you to dump combinations, programs and sequences between T series and M series machines, but it does not allow you to dump single combinations and programs to a computer.
In order to manipulate combinations or programs on the computer you need a sys librarian like PGC tools. In a tool like this you can move programs between banks and combinations.

HELLO thanx for explaining me the data dump between my M1-T1 i was on( x) global mode(..not (0ff)!!now it goes !!my reader T1 disk is OUT of order)))so do you knows a way where i can found all the sys ex and data prog for the T1-T2-T3 SERIES RAM DISK????

    • @TheMusicTechGuyUK

Hi Eric. My advice is to get the disk replaced. They are available on e-bay for about £40. ebay.to/2Yq5vNI. Yes you can use SYSEX to shunt files back and forth to the T1, but I have always found it easier for one off loads just to use the disk drive.
Fitting the new disk is relatively easy. You open up the case and then unscrew the screw holding the disk drive in place. Then you disconnect the wires and fit in reverse. When I recover the T1 from storage, maybe I will do a video on this. But there is a video on the channel showing how to get into the case now: th-cam.com/video/9AtV94ENXGo/w-d-xo.html
You can then get the factory disk and / or other RAM disks from here: ebay.to/37pZ9B0.
Yes there are various sources on the internet where you can acquire the SYSEX’s, but I will put the normal heath warning on these down loads, especially zip libraries, ensure your antivirus is up to date. Jon

Hi! I have followed all the instructions you have given to restore my Korg x3 sounds after it lost the battery but it won't work. I can dump from the x3 to the laptop. I can send midi files to the x3. But when I send sysex files to the x3 it doesn't show data is received. I have tried to change delay and buffer size with no luck! What can I do? Please, can anyone help?

Hi. I am assuming that you have solved this issue by now.
Firstly I do know own a Korg X3, but based on all my other Korg synths they all have a very similar pattern. Lets first of all run diagnostics on what you have said:
You can dump from the X3 to your laptop. Therefore the issue is not with the MIDI connection.
You can send MIDI files from the laptop to the X3. This means you have the correct speed settings on the X3 otherwise the X3 would not store them.
So this leads me to the protection settings or a correctly formatted SYSEX file.
In terms of a correctly formatted file. Where did you get this from, did you record it or did you acquire it? If you recorded it you may need to change the settings. If you acquired it try another source if you can find it.
Korg synths have a number of settings that protect elements of the memory. There is normally a setting to protect the parameters or global settings from being over ridden. For the SYSEX to load correctly this protection needs to be disabled.
If it is a specific setting to the X3 that needs to be changed then it might be a deep dive into the owners manual to find the setting that needs to be changed.
      Hope this helps. Jon

Thank you Jon, I already fixed the problem, it was a bad quality cable, it was good enough for sending/receiving midi but could not properly deliver Sysex. I bought a Roland cable and worked perfectly first time!

I am sorry, I can't afford to just give disks away. I have a standard charge of £5 per disk requested plus postage. If you would like to proceed please e-mail me your location and I can then let you know the full cost of getting a disk(s) to you. Jon

If you send my your details I am happy to send you the sysex files. There are people selling the factory disk on e-bay all the time. Or I could send one to you, but I would have to make a charge for that to cover post, disk etc.
