She (and also her parents) must’ve been happy to meet another Korean in the sport who they could communicate with clearly! Even if you speak English perfectly it’s always nice to speak in your native language instead
i've never danced, but i am a classical musician and i play oboe - the similarities between pointe shoes and oboe reeds are so interesting! i have specific makers with specific markings i like, i have customizations i make, a break-in period and a sweet spot, and an inevitable death of the reed, as well as ones i save for performances. so interesting! for example: my maker uses orange dots, though i like green as well! i like mine a little harder/more resistant, and i play well with a short/clipped reed. i also play with mine tilted a little towards the right. i normally have to spent about 4-7 days breaking in a reed once my current one starts to die, and they always feel the best just before they fail on me.
I’m an oboist too and was thinking ing the exact same thing! Whenever I watch these videos I can really relate. I have a maker who I adore and she has a specific cane and scrape combination that she uses for me.
I used to play clarinet, so I understand, but I also danced on pointe, so I understand that too. You want to get them just right and then save them for performance.
Hey friends! Her shoes are SO similar, our editor got a little mixed up & made an error: Yerin uses the Maya Pro for performance & and Maya for rehearsal. Watch Yerin Ok's YAGP performance here: th-cam.com/video/1GECudMY3i0/w-d-xo.html Also, the 2022/23 YAGP Korea Semi-Final is coming up on July 29! Stay tuned to YAGP social media for highlights. Happy dancing!
@@jojoinadango same! i started ballet a month ago and but i can already see a huge difference in my flexibility, i promise it gets better as u work on it
It amazes me with all the different options in todays point shoes. I did point from around 1976 through around1986 we had capezios. We had a few different dance shops in town. I have a very wide foot. My point shoes never felt really comfortable. I think there may have been a few different styles it didn’t matter though if you have a very wide foot. In gym type shoes today I wear a 4e yes that is a 4e so can you imagine my point shoe experience. It did not matter I loved it.
I'm an adult recreational dancer and I'm not performing, but I pretty much do the same. I wear the Novas and I always carry with me a 'classic' and a Flex model in the same shank strength. The Flex is amazing for barre work, because it makes my feet work harder and I can articulate more through my feet. For center work (or on days where I'm really tired), I prefer the support of the classic shank 😊
Watching your videos are so interesting! I’ve never done ballet but your channel was recommended to me and I have no regrets. I’ve always thought ballet was beautiful and your content is teaching me a lot about it, not just the shoes but your reaction videos were amazing. I’ve binged most of the reaction videos b/c your reaction, explanations, and personality are all very entertaining. I’m a classical instrumentalist so I’ve always loved how dance complements music and helps to tell a story or express the emotions involved in an arrangement. It’s beautiful. 🥰🥰🥰
Hey I was wondering and i love your content and I'm trying to get back into dance because i had to stop from covid and i was wondering if you know if you could do a video on the dance places you recommend going to!
Did you say in the beginning that she used the pro’s for competition and then switch it in inset text later on to say she wore the regular mayas for competition?
If there is no mention of her pointe shoes, the performance shoes look like Maya1 Pro-Flex, and the rehearsal shoes look like Maya Pro(or Maya1) because Maya1 Pro's shape, shank, and box hardness are the same as Maya1. Pro technology of Grishko(Nicolay) has a silent knot inside the platform. That is a remarkable difference from the Original Maya1 model when dancers feel 😊
Hi Josephine! I am a soccer player who also started ballet in February and I have been training a lot I have ankle strength from soccer and I can hold a releve in 1st position for 30+ seconds with turnout. Would I be ready for point anytime soon?
the standard to be able to go on pointe is to do 30 calf raises on each foot, holding releve is a good start but work on calf raises and moving your toes independently!
I got my first pair of pointe shoes this summer (Balance European). I wore them for my summer intensive but they caused me a LOT of big toe pain and I couldn’t roll through them at all. so with my teachers recommendation I went to get them refit, I got a more tapered shoe (Heritage) and it made dancing so much less painful. However the side of my big toe has started going permanently numb (from lack of blood flow I think). I asked my teacher and she recommended a less tapered shoe but that’s what I was already in and it hurt a lot. What do I do? please someone help!
I really want you to fit my pointe shoes. I hate the ones I have right now and they don’t fit my feet nicely. There’s big gaps on the side of my foot when I’m on pointe and on flat foot. Also I feel like it’s not the right size.
I noticed some wrinkling right under the tailor's bunion area. Can you talk about this or address this in a future video? A long time ago I heard that if you see wrinkling in the satin that low in the shoe it means the box isn't fitting properly, or there's some kind of fitting issue. Many dancers at my studio were fitted in Nikolay shoes and I've seen quite a few have wrinkles show up like this that made me wonder about the fit.
seems very dumb for judges to pay attention to the sound of the shoe...if you go to ABT you can hear the sound of their pointe shoes, so expecting them to do what they do silently seems kind of offensive

Straight up, I LOVE hearing you speak Korean! It's such a beautiful language. She's also a beautiful dancer!

i dont know why, but i absolutely love hearing people switch from english to another language mid sentence.
Such a lovely dancer! If she’s this good as a junior, she’ll be amazing in another few years.

Hey Josephine you are my favorite TH-camr ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜
Spotted that! (I used to work as a proofreader but I'd never previously realised that I subconsciously proof YT videos.)

Oh yah!
Yes, that confused me. I think they mixed up the text.
She left a comment saying the editor got mixed up
What an interesting and informative comparison!
ahh love your videos❤️
you should do a fitting an syncronized/artistic swimmer, i think that would be so fun to watch as i myself am one too☺️
