We should respect her reasons and wait until she requests a fitting with Josephine. Thank you.💕 Edit** She may also have a traumatic experience regarding it too. @@Kaalokalawaia No, it's not sad. @@shaldana it’s just sad that she felt that she had to step back, after clearly dedicating so much time to the art form over her lifetime. I do agree that she shouldn’t feel forced to return to ballet just because of that time, however especially if her stepping back had something to do with the toxic parts of the industry that still exist, it’s a shame that she was a victim of that especially, or even just of burn out towards something that she clearly once loved. I broke my leg 17 years ago in a very misguided dance rehearsal rehearsal at uni, studying performing arts, on point on my left leg. I can still turn out and do basic things but it actually didn’t end with the broken leg- I got nerves involved and have had debilitating chronic pain ever since. There’s a very very good reason why Josephine reacts the way she does on videos out of pure fear at peoples feet.
I love your channel so much! I've learned SOOOOO much about ballet shoes. Back in the day when I was taking dance (175 years ago lol), they put us (guys) in point shoes so we could get a sense of our partner's challenges (balance and the like). It was helpful, but those shoes were INCREDIBLY painful. It's nice to know that there are so many more shoe models/fits and great shoe fitters like yourself.
My daughter and I watch your videos every morning before she goes to school. She’s 8 and is in ballet and just loves watching anything ballet related. She expressed wanting to go to your shop to be fitted for point shoes when she’s ready, so I made the whole argument that it’s a long way off and it’s something very special to be able to do but that maybe we could…knowing full well we’ll take her and surprise her when the time is right😂☺️
When you mentioned that the first time you used the roller you experienced some level of pain, well, that is 100% normal. To share, I had run three marathons and regularly had massages, but my IT bands would really tighten up... so after about 16 miles, my upper legs felt like they had been hit by a sledge hammer, which is not the best feeling when you have 10 miles left to run! Just a few days before my 4th marathon, my massage therapist had me try the roller. That was excruciating, but after two days, that roller didn't hurt nearly as much, and it flattened out my IT bands. That was the first marathon that I ran very well the last 10 miles, for which my definition of "very well" means that I didn't look like I suffered from a neurological disorder! If you are dancing or involved with any kind of exercise, try the roller for 10-30 seconds on your quads and the sides of your thighs, twice per day. Likely within 72 hours things will feel much, much better. BTW, I did perform with the ABT and Joffrey Ballet, but.....thank goodness I was playing the violin! Oh Lord, if I were dancing....somebody, most likely me, would be injured! Even though I have no dancing background, I enjoy your videos because you are just such a nice and fun lady, with all kinds of great positive energy. I wish you the very best with all that you do.
Yep, Josephine discovered AAAAAALLLL her knotted trigger points. At once. 😂😂😂 And that is painful AF. Speaking of, time to go TheraGun my IT bands and tennis ball my glutes. 🙄 Exercise, they said. It’ll be fun, they said…
@@khills You speak the truth in quite a humorous way! I was like Josephine the first time I used the roller, in extreme pain, and not using very polite language either. Hello there!! Alex was actually in the National Ballet of Canada!!! She quit over personal reasons that she's not ready to talk about yet. She definitely is one of my favorite channels ❤
It's like when I took a class by Li Cunxin [Mao's Last Dancer] at Queensland Ballet's community classes. He did a quad pirouette for us all and said it was terrible but it was hands down the most technically perfect thing I've ever seen.
2 nights ago i had a dream of going into ballet class and doing a pirouette but what were supposed to do was a tondu- 4:08 (I don’t go to ballet class i use yt vid tutorials lmao-)
As someone with hyper mobility I have to admit it makes me wince when her knees hyper extend. No one told me that and all the "party tricks" were causing unnecessary damage.
As someone with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, I can only agree! It’s sad when people are pushed to become even more hypermobile in ballet or gymnastics because that extreme ROM is “desirable” and pretty. While it may not cause as many issues in individuals who are just hypermobile without any medical condition behind it, it still causes a lot more wear and tear on your body compared to being within normal ranges, and regardless of how strong you are, our bodies aren’t made to be hyperextended. When I stand normally (as in my normal) my knees are about 15 degrees hyperextended and I don’t know how many times through the years I’ve hurt my knees because of it, because of just losing control of my leg(s) while walking and having my knee(s) just crack backwards or something. As much as I wanted to try ballet growing up, and kinda still want to try it at almost 37, I’m kinda glad now that I never pursued dancing while I was much younger because who knows what injuries I could be dealing with now if I had done all the stretching and whatnot that dancers do...
Ballet shape is a whole other level. I don't miss the bun, either. She's a beautiful dancer. Absolutely amazing. She must have gone through a lot of tie shoes. She over-arches. She's humble, and funny. She's crazy good. Her arabesque goes straight behind her. Great muscle memory. Unique. She's got the best feet. Point shoes fo such. They do hurt.
