As a Black woman who reported to a Black woman I can say it doesn’t matter what race the manager is trying to hold you back. Every time her boss would talk and laugh with me, I noticed she would find something about my work to nit pick about. She was such as narcissist that she would shoot down ideas that I gave her then come back 15 minutes later and say she came up with an idea that was exactly the idea I gave her. When I told her that changing the wording of my idea doesn’t make it hers she would scowl and walk way. I was so done with that woman. Long story short, she was laid off in 2020 due to impact of COVID and I’m still at the company living my most peaceful work life.

I was very ready to go but I said to myself, let me make sure I don’t exclude myself from benefits eligibility and severance.
In fact, I sort of quietly and strategically facilitated the “let go.” I was good to go just as long as I wasn’t going to be the one to do it, it was all good with me!
    Shoot! Lol. 😏
When it finally happened, I would say it was a mutually beneficial release because afterwards, I noticed that they almost instantly moved up a girl who was right below me on my team, into my vacancy.
Also, right before I left, I noticed that they hired a duplicate of the most junior position on our team, which is kind of strange that we now had two Analysts when we normally have one, but at that time (a week before they released me), I didn’t realize that their intention was to get me out at the time and essentially push up one of those duplicates into my role as soon as I left, which is exactly what they did.

So, I stepped down from the administrator role I had at the time because they tried to punish me by overloading me in that space. I had already started my spiritual coaching business by that time. So, I worked one more year as a professor while I leveled up my business. I intentionally planned my exit strategy, refusing to fight within that toxic environment. Since I left, I have been happily working on my business. It gets stressful at times, but it's normal stress without the overlay of white supremacy.

The very first time I sat down at her desk, she looked me right in the eyes and said “I know you think I don’t know what I’m doing.” In that instance I couldn’t take it personally. I could see and hear the pain and anguish she was enduring from our white peers in that place. It was silently destroying her self esteem. I setup lunch dates with her after that and asked her to mentor me. She retired soon after.

Whew! This hit home in so many ways. Oh my goodness, where do I start. The last job I left was a so-called liberal company that preached diversity and acceptance. They wanted my skill set and praised me to the high heavens. That was until I came into the company and outperform two white female specialists who were the managers, senior supervisors, and Vice President of our division favorites. I felt the hostility, watched employees who were FAR LESS qualify be promoted to salary positions all the way I never advanced at all. If I asked a question about how a task should be done, I was immediately met with inexplicable aggression as if the person felt they had to fight me ... literally. It was bizarre. I was so depressed and stressed at the job. I did multiple roles and knew I was hated by those in power because I was never supposed to be "too good" if not the best in the entire department. God, it was awful.

Exactly what I’m dealing with. I was demoted recently for reporting my manager for harassment. I provided tons of proof. HR witnessed it first hand and brushed it under the rug. Told me I didn’t provide enough proof. But because HR witnessed some of it they gave her a slap on the wrist and made her take a few courses. She got revenge on me by assigning those courses to me. Before they closed the case I told them I would be demoted and a month later I get demoted. They took my position from me and gave it to someone who is not qualified and rub it in my face daily. I work remotely so during our weekly staff meetings we are now required to have our camera on which we never had to previously. All so she can taunt me and see my facial expressions. She takes screenshots of my personal messages I’ve sent ppl on TEAMS and during meetings she flashes my personal messages to let me know she’s watching. I mean just sick.

They became the SME even though they had no idea how to actually do the work. Later 'new mgt' tried to drag me back into the process to help train this person/Group of people that had replaced me, to do what I'd done single-handedly. They've never gotten it right, and I'm never going to give them the corrective input they need to get it done, especially since the current SME jobS are above my pay grade. I’m not leaving as yet only because my daughter can attend a good high school in the district where I work. The stress and workload is ridiculous and I refuse to take that, the toxic teachers, and low pay anymore. Not to mention the lack of diversity on the staff for the last 10 years I’ve been there-not one black classroom teacher. My self esteem is so low that my voice became so softly spoken, even my posture was not right. I sat in that office chair is if I was nothing. It started off with me complaining to my boss about the racism I was experiencing and the hostile work environment I deal with he basically told me to get used to it bc the offender was the brother of the regional boss
Once I let them know that they were looking for reasons to let me go, and were constantly stating you are a slow learner so your not a good engineer
06/27/24 I was shown my boss calling me names to emplyee I reported to my boss and HR I was called retarted by my boss and she stated for a mechanic not to assist and and to let me struggle.
I once I made my report to HR and my boss I confronted my boss and told her my thoughts and that I didn’t appreciate her doing that, the following work day I was fired due to insubordination.
Everyday I hated that job bc of how I was treated. It was only a matter of before I quit or was fired it’s hard not hate be mad and just say it’s bc I’m black and they are all white I am trying not to be angry about the situation and look at it as a blessing from above
