I would gladly pay for customs and duties for a free bike , anyways I pay that shit for pretty much every moto or bike part I have to get from out of the country.
For all MTB newbies: Don't let tryhard gatekeepers tell you that you should buy a bike specifically for your level, while it is very much recomended to start on a hardtail there's nothing wrong with overbiking and simply cruising on trails to enjoy them. Trust me, 99% of the riders out there will welcome you as long as you behave yourself and keep the trails well and clean, it really is surprising how deeply accepting this community is. Go out, scrape a knee and meet some bros.
Great PSA! There's this weird vibe that when you get a mountain bike, you must ride the crap out of it, or else you don't deserve it. I want to normalize saying it's okay to get a nice bike and keep it nice for a while
Well i would expect a mtb newbie to keep up with a high pivot bike maintenance with the lower and upper pulleys, frame bearings, electronic shifting, setting up the fork and shock with hsc lsc all these are not necessarily related to skill while you are riding but a simpler bike can teach you the basics on what is like to ride maintain and repair a bike
Riding a hardtail is definitely a good way to build skills, but like you said, it's all about getting out to ride and enjoy the social aspects of it, as well :D
@@Leflamehorizon i know, but if they can throw the budget in straight away for a more serious bike they can probably afford to go to the shop for fixes too, otherwise for most people it would be too big of a comitment for a simple hobby. I've been riding my 09 Demo 8 for about 4 years (i think?) now and i'm doing my first set of frame bearings on theese days, with it being my second "serious" MTB, and the only one where i really started to take a real interest on trails, i did ride my previous one on trails but i had so little confidence that the gravel on my local trails managed to spook me onto a crawl basically. Besides, most of the things are about being carefull and having the tools, with patience and time everything's relatively easy to fix.
