Haydn is the father of the symphony. His music is amazing in harmony, grace and elegance. Viva Haydn a true genius of music that gives us unforgettable moments of pleasure and haunting music. Bravissimo

LDC

I love the Andante. It makes me think I am swimming in a pool on a nice summer day.

NIce playing around with the tempo in the menuetto, switching from 3/4 to 4/4 and back again to 3/4 time!

Actually, it stays in 3/4 the whole time, Haydn just uses phrases that sound like 4/4 on purpose to play with it.

That is an interesting observation. The menuetto has its origin in dances. The boards of the place have their own frequency of resonance. There is the reason, why Haydns menuettos should never be played. fast.

Even when Haydn marks the Minuet movement ‘Allegro molto’ as appears on the manuscripts/scores of works as far apart as Symphony 28 (1765), and Symphony 94 (1792) ?
I think you might have a better point with Mozart whose symphonic Minuets are without exception of the Allegretto-type.
