    Awesome machine! I saw it in the AG building at MRRF on Sunday but you were away from the table at the time. Otherwise I would have loved to pick your brain. I’m excited to see where you take this.

    Hi! Cnc machines have automatic tool changers. Guess the are expensive... I don't have one because of the budget here.
    Interesting you are doing it this way.

    I have an axidraw and plan to use it to draw artwork using a quickie glue pen and then sprinkle glitter

    I hope to see some of your svg converter because I have been working around the clock to make a tool changer for my custom pen plotter that works with inkscape and a modified version of gcodetools to allow for at least 3 pens but it doesn't remember what pen was last used so it sometimes tries to put a pen back into a pen holding bay where there already is a pen inside and then well, stuff breaks.

    That looks great!
    I am currently working on a tool changer to. I probably just going to use a servo to operate the locking mechanism. They are not that heavy.
    I have a ultimaker style 3D printer. So I will need to park the nozzles on a lift mechanism to get them out of the way. This is going to be interesting!

      There are not a lot of people designing tool changers are they?

      @@FrankyieFrank So far, it seems like there's a few folks, but everyone has a slightly different take depending on their machine setup. I think there's plenty of room for new ideas.

    • @FrankyieFrank

      @@POOFjunior It surprises me how little people are working on this. I think it is the next step in 3D printing.
      My idea is also slightly different from the things I have seen. The connection system will be more or less the same as yours and E3D. However, I won't be using a bowden systems. I hate bowden system. They greatly reduce extruder accuracy. I will be using a geared extruder. The large gear will be fitted to the swappable nozzle assembly. The extruder motor will be fixed to the printhead. 1 motor will operate all nozzles.
      I am also planning on using a sensor to see if the nozzle assembly has detached or connected properly.

      I sent my DXF file to Nick at CNCMadness.com. The price was about $50 for 6mm twill weave CF.

    Hi Josh, I made a playlist of all your tool changing videos and sent the link to my bell ringing subscribers. Hopefully it generates some good traffic for you. I really like where you are going with this project. Keep going!
    Just a heads up: I strongly suspect that the big orange 3D printer company will be ditching Marlin and adopting Klipper in the future. So it is very possible that your contribution to open source will eventually be monetized by that powerhouse after you have done all the work to move the project over to the Klipper platform.

    • @POOFjunior
      @POOFjunior  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Design Prototype Test,
      Thanks for the incoming traffic and kind words--it's much appreciated!
      Regarding Klipper appearing in future Orange-colored 3D printers, you may be onto something, but there are still some issues that make me think that it's a complicated decision. Currently the Klipper project is written in Python 2.7, which officially stops receiving support at the end of 2019. My hope is that Kevin considers bumping the project up to Python 3.x in the next few months. (There's a thread on this topic on his Patreon page; apparently 3.x runs slightly slower, although it is still functional from what I remember.) I'm metaphorically shuffling my feet over whether to commit to Kipper just yet; meanwhile, I've been making major improvements to the toochanging hardware. Time will tell!

      @@POOFjunior I see u using two wires to lock, why not only one like bicycle brakes and gears uses and spring "backslash"? :)
      Also why whole stepper to it, servo etc didn't make it? :/

    • @POOFjunior
      @POOFjunior  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@amtechprinters3339 in a nutshell, spring guide is wayy more flexible than bicycle brake cable. As for using one cable vs two, it's possible but it defeats the ability to detect thet tools are locked to a fixed torque value, which also uses a spring in series as part of the sensing mechanism.
