Also loved the chemistry between Freeman and Pitt, I hope to see them again in a film.
It's the only film I watch once a year. Every year... I never get tired of it.

"Alien 3" is a pretty good movie, it's just not a good Alien movie. Se7en though, was Fincher's first masterpiece.
I think the original "Alien" from Ridley Scott and "Alien 3" by David Fincher are the best films of the franchise. I know Fincher hates it but we got a taste of what he is capable of. Fincher simply does not disappoint! I freaking hated Cameron's take on "Aliens." I hated ALL of the characters and the "rah-rah Hollywood" crap of calling the Alien Queen, "You bitch." It is terribly dated and it's just crap. Cameron made one good film after that one, called "The Abyss." Otherwise, he can kiss my ass. Fincher rocks, even though he's taking his freaking time off from directing and doing more production work. Come back, David!!!
@@bandfromtheband9445 Fincher has a new film coming out to theaters/Netflix soon. The teaser dropped not long ago. It’s called “Mank” and his late father wrote the script.
One of the best movies I have ever seen. I seen it in a theater and when it was over people just sat there for a second and then just stood up and walked out without making a sound. I think people were just shocked that the bad guy won the way he did. I know I was.....amazing
I was wearing a Se7en tshirt with John Doe on it when I was watching this with a friend, who turned to me when Mills said you are a movie of the week, a tshirt and we both laughed.
I always took Se7en as a remake of Dantes Inferno so the city to me is hell.

Great review, '96, me and a few friends had just watched Twister at the cinema, afterwards we popped into Blockbuster video, showing my age now, I picked up Se7en on VHS, back home my parents were on holiday, no-one else fancied watching it, so just me, all on my lonesome, still daylight, sat on my bed watching it and I have never, ever been so creeped out my entire life, a masterpiece of a movie
Never clicked on a notification so fast!!! Such a terrifying and riveting film.
Clearly one of the most scary and suspenseful crime dramas/Horror films ever made!
I think the with the constant rainfall and the old world style, this city is a combination of NewYork and Seattle, up until the climatic final scences. I'm so glad the city's name and location are not revealed, it adds to the mysterious creep factor and the wonderful horror of it all.

Brilliant foreshadowing when Somerset had those crime scene photos and named all the sins and ended with envy as he handed them to Brad Pitt.

Yes all David Fincher's films are pretty much great, especially the ones he did with Brad Pitt like Fight Club & Seven. But what about The Curious Case of Benjamin Button...? Personally I thought that one was TERRIBLE. So much so I even refer to it as The Curious Case of Benjamin Buttfuck...because everyone who paid to see it at the cinema got shafted

One of the most stylish and psychological films crafted.
One of my favourites of all time. Watched it as a kid before I even knew who Fincher was or would become. Beautiful film and ugly film in every way. Favourite scene, when the 3 of them are in the car going out to the desert. Wonderful performances and dialogue and fleshes out the characters so much in how they react and behave. I love John Doe winding Mills up and Somerset refusing to be sucked in. Beautiful.
Although it’s not implied which city they are in, I believe it to be New York. Sign behind them @ 20:40 says New York Pizza, but this could just be the type of Pizza they make at that particular Diner.
I've heard so much about this film that when I saw this review, I decided to finally see it and come back to this review.
And.... damn. Damn. Goddamn. That was..... damn.

+Off The Shelf Reviews I had not seen this film in over 15 years. I immediately found my Platinum Series DVD and popped it in the Blu Ray player. Although I knew that they never mentioned the city's name, I always felt it was LA specifically because being from LA, the locations give it away. It's hard to hide LA if that makes sense. Amazing review, my third time watching it. I sincerely am still in awe at how entertaining your reviews are. Keep it up gents!
I love this kind of detectives movies like this one and Silence of the lambs and the Zodiac , Memories of a murder ,the chaser , Prisoners , gone baby gone
It's interesting to think about what would have happened to B Pitts' character after the end of the story.
Se7en is the best Batman movie we never got. The filth and grime of the nameless city, the unchecked crime, the darkness and the oppressive nature of the street level could all be the perfect stalking ground for the Dark Knight. All it would have taken is the occasional look up, “he’s out tonight” and nothing more. A Batman movie without Batman would be great

You guys do a good job of inserting little bits of info about the film's production and related background in a way that really helps your viewers better appreciate and understand the subject matter. I've always Imagined Seven is in the same movie universe of Saw, it's just works.
I think it's hilarious that Sylvester Stallone a.k.a Rambo thought this movie was too dark and violent
In his defense, most of the movies he was in had a sense of fun and closure. This movie was stark and the ending was dark and sad.

This movie is both disturbing and brilliant at the same time especially the ending Kevin spacey knows how to play a villain.
Se7en is a masterpiece.
*Fun Fact:* There's this new serial killer movie out on DVD called *_Solace_* starring Anthony Hopkins (as a psychic detective) and Colin Farrell; _Solace_ was at one point retooled to be a sequel to _Se7en_ by having Morgan Freeman's Somerset character gaining psychic abilities. But that never got made, maybe it's because David Fincher doesn't consider himself as a Sequel Guy type.
After thinking about your comments on the constant rain, it made me wonder if the film took place during the springtime, which led me to consider the possibility that the final scenes took place on Easter Sunday, likely another religious insistence perpetuated by John Doe.

Way more disturbing than the Saw movies. I can't even watch it again.
You know what could be interesting and I'm not saying they should do it because I generally sequels are just a rehashing of what was already done.
That being said, I wonder if Fincher and whoever is a hot screenwriter at the present time would be able to come up with a sort of follow-up, where we see detective Mills who now himself is getting ready to retire.
Could there be some other gripping story that's not reminiscent of the first film, though shot in the same grim style?
The song "Ripples" by Genesis reminds me of Tracy.

I think Brad Pitt's character was an inspiration for Max Payne
one of the best films ever made, when someone asked about my favorite movies it jump to my head, I've watched Se7en many many times, and I will rematch it soon with my wife. it's Fincher finest movie in my opinion

I heard there was a theory going around that Seven is set in Gotham City, because theres no licence plate saying which city it belongs in and the crime rate in the city is so high etc.

The studio tried to ruin it then. They wanted to change the ending. It only stayed in because the actors and director threatened to walk if they changed it.

The guy playing the corrupt FBI agent is the corrupt detective from Batman Begins.
it's amazing what Finches can do with cliches. he trusted then to use them to tell compelling stories.
like in fight club that reveal was kind of a cop out in any other film, but he used it as part of the story telling and you enjoy it!

Aah, was really hoping you guys would look at this one! It's freaking amazing. I don't think any other film has achieved quite the atmosphere that this genius piece of work did.
I don't suppose you guys would have any interest in doing a review of the Nicholas Cage film 8mm? It's the one that the writer of Se7en wrote after this film. It's not nearly as good, but still, I feel like it's kind of overlooked...
Also, it might be interesting to see you guys review more bad movies - The Room, Birdemic, and the like (and that's just the obvious ones). I'm betting it'd be hilarious.
Lol I had the pleasure (?) of watching this movie at the cinema with my 57 year old mother . Was really uncomfortable with the " Strap on of Death " scene . I couldn't talk her into another choice but boy did I try lol

I forgot how fucking good the acting is in this film...you can say what you like about Spacey but this and the Usual Suspects are carried by him..no disrespect to Pitt n fFeeman

Classic but the revelation ending always felt a little overrated and predictable imo. The dark soaked depressing cinematography and Spaceys performance were the real stars imo.
Nobody seems to feel this way but I don't think Brad Pitt was a great actor in this movie , his lines are contrived alot like he's trying to act tough but dosen't know how to
do it convincingly. Morgan Freeman and Kevin Spacey are top notch and the scenes and rain and crime filled *dread* and who dun it mystery are the magic.
Yeah Pitt isn't known to be a great actor, the highlight here are both Freeman and Spacey.
I like that he started to get angry as he listed the failings of others, it made me think that maybe Somerset had pricked him a bit.

I do love the movie, but as the years have gone on I've become more critical of Pitt's performance. Especially at the end. He did ok, but Morgan Freeman was carrying their partnership, and he wasn't convincing until he was sitting in the cop car afterwards.

love how most of the movie is dark and rainy and once they catch the killer its sunny and dry.
I kinda always thought that it stopped raining at the end cause they drove out of the city.
