My dad and I are huge Rod Stewart and Jeff Beck fans. Recently, when he was ill and I was bringing him home from the VA in Portland, OR for cancer treatment, we were playing classic rock on the stereo in my car. When "People Get Ready" came on, he asked me if he could turn up the volume. I said, "Crank it, dad!" And, he played air guitar and I drove-danced all the way into Salem, and then we laughed and loved that time. He passed away 3 weeks ago. It's been a huge loss. But, I love that my dad and I rocked out to this song together. Happy memories forever.
Jeff Beck catched the train to Jordan. He didn't need no bagage, he just hopped on board. RIP! And bless Curtis Mayfield for writing this beautiful song!
When my husband was sick, he played this often on his guitar. 10 years on, I can finally listen to it, but not without tears. Blessing to Mr. Beck and Mr. Stewart. You gave him comfort.
My God bless you (I lost my wife too) My prayer is that, one day we can be on that train spoken of, that will take us to once again be reunited with our spouses.
Oh, I get it--my late fiance used to play this and Over the Hills and Far Away on the guitar for me and it doesn't take much for the waterworks to come for either song. And he passed away in 1992. :'(

This was my first 12" maxi single. I was 12 years old and Rod Stewart was one of my idols at the time. But it wasn't Rod who stunned me. It was the guitar. It was Jeff Beck. I had never heard anyone play guitar like that before. It felt like being on a sunny cloud. RIP Jeff

Oh man I was a teenager. So young when this video came out. Look how good Rod and look. This song makes me feel that youth, when you have your whole life ahead of you and you harbor the hopes and dreams for yourself. God I remember that time. The sky was the limit. And as I look at where I was then and where I am now I did pretty good. Thank you for the wonderful music that's moving me to tears right now. Rest in Peace Jeff Beck . The music lives on.
You can take a man away from "the sound" but you can never take the sound out of the man. Those incredible sounds that we were so privileged to hear when we were young will be with us to the end. RIP Jeff Beck, praise for Sir Rod Stewart. No two could have done it better.
With everything currently going on in the world; I sat in silence this morning, sending silent prayers and love to everyone affected. Whether I know them personally or not. We are all in this pandemic together. This song came into my mind; and I feel it truly applies. Love to everyone. And we will get through this.
I know this is a cover. I don't know if Jeff and Rod recorded/perform it with faith in their hearts, but when I first heard it in 1985, and every time since, It make my heart rejoice in the Glory of our Lord!
Mr. Jeff Beck, you left an indelible impression on this world with this masterpiece. What this song says is exactly what the world needs. Rest In Peace
Just heard of Jeff Beck's passing 💔 I immediately thought of this song. RIP to one amazingly talented 🎸 hero. I will remember you, and your beautiful music always. The contributions you made to the music world are endless. Rock on in Paradise 💫 Godspeed
Well, here we are, Jeff has left us,, we listen now once again to our hero been with us all the way there & back, like a flash, telling the truth, with his Boleto, with his Tele, with his life he showed us how it done a righteous way so indeed he done us right the whole way,, got us ready to see him rise to see Jimi & all the others like BB. So yes, we now having to have to face the coming days without our angle of the guitar, we've now been delt our decks, it's what we hold inside as our gathered memories that show that Jeff left a return ticket for all of us in total opus count. God Bless you Jeff & your Wife & Daughter, we here still hear you from the heavens above. Thank you for taking my comment.
Still gives me chills all these years later. I think this was a hit in early 1985, if my memory is worth anything. Now nearly 40 years later I still get blown away hearing this song. Rod’s soulful voice, Jeff making that guitar cry. Just beautiful.
Between the lyrics, meaning behind them, his voice coupled with the guitar playing...it should send chills down everyone and anyone's spine. It does mine...timeless.
Classic. Epic. Powerful. Lyrics and melody. My fav part is the hug that never let go. It took on a whole new meaning today. RIP Jeff. You inspired millions.
God Bless you I know how hard it is to loose your parents, husband and 2 of my children I wasn't expecting that now my adult daughter has been in remission of state 3 brain cancer since this year. God is my Anchor the only way to keep on going. I'm truly sorry for your loss. 🥀🕊🥀
Rod Stewart and Darryl Hall have the same soul as any black R & B soul singer. That Hendrix riff by Jeff Beck crushing into Rod's ten tons of heavy metal voice chords makes this rendition a heavenly experience.
Totally Agree! I've been fortunate to have seen both of them. At the time... Rod always ended his concerts w/ my favorite, Sam Cooke's song Havin' a Party! Saw Darryl a few months ago. If They had a tour together??? What a Wonderful World This Would Be!!
Hendrix riff? I don't hear that. Jeff was an original and the best. He did do the best Hendrix cover with Seal though and he Loved Jimi and Jimi Loved Jeff.
Man, they really hit it out of the park with this one. Heavenly vocals by Rod & a scorching red hot guitar solo by Beck. Just a gorgeous song all around.
+KoolCat ! Indeed fell in love w/ them and this song the minute i heard it.......didn't know it was Beck til later when saw video. Awesome and Divine!!
"People Get Ready" by Jeff Beck and Rod Stewart is more than just a song; it is an emotional experience that transcends time and space. Originally written by Curtis Mayfield for his group The Impressions in 1965, the song has seen numerous covers, but none quite as powerful and evocative as this 1985 collaboration between two of rock music's most iconic figures. Poetry in Motion The poetic quality of "People Get Ready" lies in its simplicity and universal message. The lyrics speak of hope, unity, and spiritual awakening, calling on listeners to prepare themselves for a journey of redemption and salvation. The phrase, "People get ready, there's a train a-comin'," serves as both a literal and metaphorical call to action, urging humanity to get on board with love, kindness, and faith. Rod Stewart's vocal delivery adds a layer of sincerity and earnestness that only someone of his vocal caliber can bring. His voice, seasoned by years of experience, resonates with both vulnerability and strength, making the message of the song feel both personal and urgent. Jeff Beck's guitar work, on the other hand, is nothing short of transcendent. His solos are not just notes but emotional outpourings that elevate the song's spiritual theme to celestial heights. Beck's guitar speaks where words fail, providing a soul-stirring backdrop to Stewart's impassioned vocals. A Video That Tells a Story The music video for "People Get Ready" is a masterclass in visual storytelling. Directed during a time when music videos were becoming a crucial part of an artist's identity, this one stands out for its simplicity and poignancy. The video opens with Jeff Beck and Rod Stewart walking towards a deserted train station, their silhouettes stark against the setting sun. This imagery sets the tone for the entire video: a sense of departure, of leaving behind the old for something new and hopeful. As the video progresses, we see a series of vignettes featuring people from all walks of life: a young couple, an elderly man, a woman with her child. Each character represents a different facet of humanity, all waiting for the same train. The use of black and white footage interspersed with color shots gives the video a timeless quality, symbolizing the eternal struggle between despair and hope, darkness and light. The visual narrative is beautifully synchronized with the song's progression. As Stewart's voice crescendos and Beck's guitar soars, the train finally arrives, a powerful steam engine that embodies the promise of a new beginning. The passengers board, leaving behind their fears and doubts, ready to embark on a journey towards a brighter future. Timeless Relevance When the video was released in the mid-1980s, it resonated deeply with a world grappling with issues of inequality, conflict, and a yearning for change. Today, almost four decades later, its message remains just as relevant. "People Get Ready" is a reminder of the power of music to unite, heal, and inspire. It is a call to action, a plea for compassion, and a beacon of hope in a world that often feels divided and uncertain. "People Get Ready" by Jeff Beck and Rod Stewart is not just a song; it is a spiritual experience. The poetic depth of the lyrics, combined with the soul-stirring performances and evocative visuals, create a masterpiece that speaks to the very core of what it means to be human. Whether you're a long-time fan or a first-time listener, this is a song that will leave you moved, inspired, and ready to get on board the train of hope and redemption. www.candiano.com
Rod Stewart's vocals and Jeff Beck's electric guitar riffs Are SERIOUS!!! This song reminds me of the sadness and despair on the faces of the homeless people of Boston! Sleeping on dirty cardboard, in the closed-down doorways and abandoned businesses of Downtown Crossing. I know when that "train" is boarding....They'll be sitting up front!
Are we. Many far Left people, too many really, talk of putting people like me in re-education camps, and many news broadcasters speak often of doing so. And then there is ANTIFA and BLM, who burn cities, loot businesses, and commit murder of everyday people. I am not a Nazi or white supremist, but these same people seek me out to inflict pain believing I am. No Sam, we are not going to come together. Instead we are marching towards civil war, and there will be blood. Lots of it.
Pure drivel, Federalist - no one has suggested any such thing - and any Civil War that you pray for so fervently will end the way such battles always do…with the Supremacists and Nationalists bowed and beaten.
It seemed like every time I turned on MTV this song was on. A few years later, I was driving home, drunk, way too fast. My car jumped out of gear. Just then 5 deer ran in front of me. I would have hit them, if my car did not pop out of gear. I said out loud, wow, there really is a God. I instantly was sober. I gave my life to Him, right there, on the side of the road. Best choice ever!

What a combination - this stirring, inspirational song, Rod's amazing voice & delivery together with Jeff's heavenly, restrained, poetic guitar playing. And Rod's hug still gets to me ....
When this song was on MTV back in the 90s, I started playing guitar. Back then I didn't know anything Jeff Beck, let alone Jeff and Rod once played in a band together, but the first time, I've heard their cover of this song I was totally blown away. There's so much Blues and Gospel in Rod's voice and a lot of power in Jeff's guitar tone.

There ain't no room for the hopeless sinner, who would hurt on mankind , just to save his own. Stronger words have rarely been spoken.
Taken straight from Marley's "One love'
Bob marley vibes here
@@siscalian4702 Curtis Mayfield wrote it in 1965. I take it Bob was paying tribute to words worth repeating.
"Have pity on those whose chances grow thinner". Next line. Thats even harder to do these days.
Holy Bible
What a fantastic song by two amazing artists. Jeff Beck was such a talented guitar player and Rod is one of my all time favorites!!❤❤❤❤❤
This was my first 12" maxi single. I was 12 years old and Rod Stewart was one of my idols at the time. But it wasn't Rod who stunned me. It was the guitar. It was Jeff Beck. I had never heard anyone play guitar like that before. It felt like being on a sunny cloud.
RIP Jeff
Gosh they were both on their game that day. And such a great song on a day like today. Prayers to JB, and family
Adeus, lenda! Muitos de nós brasileiros fomos e somos influenciados por seu Dom, seu Som... Seu legado é uma obra de Arte que apreciaremos por gerações! 💓🇧🇷 R.I.P Jeff

65 years old and i still love this song! What talent and the message…wow. Brings tears to my old eyes every time i play it
65 ain’t old. But I’m hip. 😉
Yes me too and I'm 57 years old
I'm 67 soon to be 68.I'm still hip.Wife still yells for me to"Turn that damn thing down!"
You can take a man away from "the sound" but you can never take the sound out of the man. Those incredible sounds that we were so privileged to hear when we were young will be with us to the end. RIP Jeff Beck, praise for Sir Rod Stewart. No two could have done it better.
I'm 67 and I agree.
I love this song. It always gives me chills!!! Rod and Jeff!!!
Rod always said," With my voice and Jeff's guitar it was magic." He sure was right!!!
So people get ready....a train a coming....hallelujah....just thank the Lord ❤

RIP Jeff Beck ! You are a guitar god who inspired millions . There will never be another one like you!
One of my favorite videos from the 80’s. Felt the need to see it again after hearing of the loss of Jeff Beck 🎸 Truly one of the greats 💔
RIP Jeff, you will be missed but NEVER FORGOTTEN!
Beyond the fantastic vocals and guitar work, there is a very important message. People, get ready.
This is without a doubt Jeff Beck's greatest guitar solo...
william Aggrey-Orleans agreed
I agree!
William, I would love to know who the lovely Mexican gal is in the white dress!
Have you not listened to any of his solo albums?
william Aggrey-Orleans ayeed.
Only two guitar tones literally bring tears to my eyes: Jeff Beck and SRV.
The truth be told.
I'm with you on that one.
There are VERY FEW you can put in the same sentence as SRV. Jeff Beck is one of them.
I have Alzheimer’s. I grew up with the greatest music and the best times for any human being. Mahalo nui loa 🌺🙏.
With everything currently going on in the world; I sat in silence this morning, sending silent prayers and love to everyone affected. Whether I know them personally or not. We are all in this pandemic together. This song came into my mind; and I feel it truly applies. Love to everyone. And we will get through this.
Yes we will. Just get onboard.
Thanks.
Pandemic? What pandemic?
Very well said.
so very true
Lubbock Texas agrees😔
I know this is a cover. I don't know if Jeff and Rod recorded/perform it with faith in their hearts, but when I first heard it in 1985, and every time since, It make my heart rejoice in the Glory of our Lord!
Redeemed, Redeemed, Redeemed by the blood of the Lamb. Redeemed, redeemed, His Child and forever I am!
Rest In Peace, Jeff!
Thank you for the great body of guitar work through through the years.
RIP Jeff.. You were a true treasure.. Words can't express the this loss.. Class act and so many amazing compositions
RIP Jeff. Thank you for all the majestic music!
Glorious performance by Jeff Beck. RIP to one of the best guitarists of all time! 😢
Rod's a great singer of course, but what really strikes me is Jeff's emotive licks, almost as expressive as the human voice
Still gives me chills all these years later. I think this was a hit in early 1985, if my memory is worth anything. Now nearly 40 years later I still get blown away hearing this song. Rod’s soulful voice, Jeff making that guitar cry. Just beautiful.
I agree. It's one of my all time favorites.
Between the lyrics, meaning behind them, his voice coupled with the guitar playing...it should send chills down everyone and anyone's spine. It does mine...timeless.
this is one the greatest creations in the history of music. June 2024
I love when Rod throws his arms around Jeff and hugs him while Jeff's playing...so sweet!
I love too!
Hello
One of the greatest, such a kind and caring human. Such a loss.😪 RIP, Jeff.🙏
One of a small number of songs that can make me cry.
The beauty of this performance always brings tears to my eyes.
This clip is a masterpiece! Rod and Jeff make a great team! Beautiful to see Rod's affection toward him. Jeff's guitar touches us deeply.
This is such a beautiful song and now Jeff is playing this song in his true home above. RIP legend.
Had to watch this after hearing about Jeff's passing which is heartbreaking and he was such a legend and an amazing musician rip.🙏🏼
Let's give thanks to Curtis Mayfield who wrote this song.

Classic. Epic. Powerful. Lyrics and melody. My fav part is the hug that never let go. It took on a whole new meaning today. RIP Jeff. You inspired millions.
My mom always loved Rod Stewart's voice and when she passed away I played this song at her funeral.

A perfect song to play ! Absolutely PERFECT ! I JUST LOST MY BROTHER SATURDAY MORNING ! THIS IS GOOD KARMA ! MY CONDOLENCES
You get it....
They're in the genre called 'Blue-Eyed Soul'.
No they don't. They can't even come close. Nice try though. Wishful thinking.
This is by far one of the best versions of this song. Hate to speak or type the truth but Rod Stewart did this song justice.
Rod Stewart’s voice is perfect for this song
Have you heard Eva Cassidy's version? It's wonderful.
Adeus Jeff Beck...o melhor guitarrista do mundo!

Man, they really hit it out of the park with this one. Heavenly vocals by Rod & a scorching red hot guitar solo by Beck. Just a gorgeous song all around.
Then you should probably go listen to the Curtis mayfield version.... Good music, soul music
+dirtyred413 . . . . yea that's good too . . . but nobody tops Beck.
Love this guy. Seen him 3 times would love see him again..
+KoolCat ! Indeed fell in love w/ them and this song the minute i heard it.......didn't know it was Beck til later when saw video. Awesome and Divine!!
Written by Curtis Mayfield who wrote many beautiful melodies and also wrote the music for the movie Superfly.
Poetry in Motion
The poetic quality of "People Get Ready" lies in its simplicity and universal message.
A Video That Tells a Story
The music video for "People Get Ready" is a masterclass in visual storytelling.
Timeless Relevance
When the video was released in the mid-1980s, it resonated deeply with a world grappling with issues of inequality, conflict, and a yearning for change.
Rip Jeff Beck
More of this music is needed 😌. We as a nation need to be uplifted. Stop the hate and embrace true brotherhood. Come on America. We are all Americans.
Lots of it.
@@thefederalist9982 Antifa means anti-facist, so I assume you're a Facist. We fought a war against people like you, and won, and we'll do it again.

Pure drivel, Federalist - no one has suggested any such thing - and any Civil War that you pray for so fervently will end the way such battles always do…with the Supremacists and Nationalists bowed and beaten.

Okay, Willie.
