I had 10 cards to show Rarran but unfortunately had to cut Cosmic Call from the final video because there wasn't enough context to make it fair... if you can guess what his rating was I'll give you a cookie though

That is true the turn you play it cause you're usually spending all your mana to use it lol

I have a tiny little critique point in the editing of the video:
Since Rarran is facing right on his facecam, it seems quite unnatural to me, that sometimes Snnuy is on the left side and Rarran on the right side, so Rarran is basically facing away from Snnuy. I would personally either mirror Rarrans cam or swap the 2 cams in these specific shots.
Obviously, the video was still great 😂

I'll say it again, I think Rarran does a better job at predicting success than most LOR creators. There have been several times where he was more correct than Sunny (ie. deep has a 49% wr as of this video release). Skip is in a strong deck right now as well

    • @Snnuy
      @Snnuy  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +22

There is no guesswork from my side, i just look at the stats at the time of recording. No skip deck existed (i still put text during the edit that there is a good one now) and deep had a 50%+ winrate with 2 Watery graves at the time

As a Boon player, Backpack is way better than people give it credit for, it helps A LOT to make Boon cards "If one of your traps or boons activated this round" more consistent.
I can actually run Proximity Puffcap in non-Bard or Teemo decks now because of Backpack.
I like to play Norra swarm/impact decks with Realm's Caretaker and Backpack allows for both not missing on Caretaker and gives you the extra burn you need to win the game later on.
It counters Janna decks too btw, which is great.

Always weird when you see somebody say something is better than what people give it credit for. Pretty sure high ranks and pro players know if a card is good or not. This one is booty.

    • @enoshrs
      @enoshrs 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

@@kintsugi3932 Ig the point is that Boons is not a good archetype itself and all the decks that feature Backpack try to make it their focus rather than a support card for the rest of the deck.
That being said, if any more Boon card gets printed, buffed, backpack will only increase in value

@@kintsugi3932 The meme Backpack deck with Sunken Temple has 40% winrate according to the video. (40.4% currently)
However, in a Bard deck, it has over 50% winrate. (It's good enough to be B tier)
If it was in PnZ it would probably be pretty good in Teemo Ionia decks, currently too many of Teemo's support cards are in PnZ, and going all in on shrooms is a meme.
I've run into multiple Skip decks that ran it on ladder today, if it's popular enough, maybe we'll find out it's winrate.
Skip without backpack is already S tier, I'm not going to argue that the card is good if it reduces Skip to an A tier deck, but if it doesn't majorly impact the winrate, or even increases the winrate, then it's a good card.
Snnuy undervalues almost any card that isn't a build around, unless it's been in one of the most played decks.
Maybe ask Snnuy how good Lurk is?

There's a story of why hearthstone has the fatigue mechanic. Originally the game had the mechanic of losing when you run out of deck; while the game was in development, one day they invited a senior dev from another one of blizzard games (I think it was jeff kaplan) to try out the game; he was having a lot of fun playing all the different cards until he ran out of deck and instantly lost the game. He felt so bad because he was having so much fun, so they decided to add the fatigue mechanic to allow the game to continue a bit more even if your deck got empty.

A curiosity regarding having no cards in deck:
There's Wixoss, another card game, where you don't instantly lose the game, but instead shuffle your graveyard back and lose 1 shield (it's kind of like hp). You can't lose the game because to lose you have to be hit while you have no shields, but it can accelerate the process. Not that I've seen that in action a lot except for my self mill/graveyard deck, where I basically mill my entire deck and then "draw" whatever I want by returning a card to my hand and then suffle it back again

I felt like Skip was better than people though initially because he gave you information and could potentially snag a win con or answer from the opponent. My thought was if chimes hit him he was instantly a problem because he would reveal two cards, take one, be a bit beefier AND is elusive. Even in a vacuum I feel like cards that give information like that are good own their own. You play him for two mana, see two cards then can play accordingly. Even if he dies as soon as you play him if you see two cards (that are at least useful) you probably have a better chance at pulling things off. Maybe you want to make a risky play but are uncertain if they have an answer. You get lucky and Skip shows you them having the answer so you do not do it and maybe win. Information is kinda op in card games.

Skip is super interesting, since it's an adaptation of a classic MTG creature. The reason why it's not as good in LoR far as I can tell is because for one, you don't see the entire hand like you do with those creatures in MTG. And the limited board space in LoR puts more of a premium on what creatures you keep around.

He kinda brushed over that whole "Deep is probably one of the most famous decks in Runeterra" so I thought I'd explain it for any new Runeterra players or any Rarran viewers.
So Deep uses 2 different archetypes of cards
Sea Monsters which are generally horribly statted for their costs, as a general rule of thumb expect a Sea Monster to cost 1 or 2 more than it's statline should suggest, 4 mana 3/4, 5 mana 3/3, 8 mana 6/5 for some examples
And Toss which is just discarding cards from your own deck, generally for decently cheap effects
These 2 archetypes of cards are awful and if you generate a card from one of these archetypes when you're playing a deck outside of Deep you're probably mad as heck.
However Sea Monsters have the keyword Deep which activates when you reach the bottom 15 cards of your deck (deck size in Runeterra is 40 so you need to discard 25 cards to activate this keyword) and when you do your Sea Monsters get +3/+3.
The deck is pretty famous because it grabs 2 of the otherwise worst meme archetypes and has made a deck that has consistently floated between a tier 1 and a tier 2 deck. Even in it's worst incarnations Deep is still a relatively competent deck. Deep has always been, some definition of viable but has never been annoying and oppressive. Runeterra's other unique deck Lurk (Still extremely popular on it's own merits) can't say the same and has commonly broken a lot of metagames with some people asking for it to see some massive changes or rotations to it's key cards, specifically it's Champions.
Deep is also just a really unique deck to play because you're discarding over half your deck every game you rarely play with the same cards on curve as you attempt to sabotage yourself and get Deep before your opponent can kill you before you're deep. 1 Game you might win with a card, the next game you discard all 3 copies of that card that won you the previous game on your first toss. It's a wildly unique, satisfying and changing deck that has never really made the game worse which is pretty impressive for a deck that has been around for almost 2 years.

It's the highest winrate card in what's at least an A tier deck. (as well as being the card the deck is built around)
Sure there's matchups it loses against almost every time, but there's also decks that almost cannot win against Wildfire.
As the meta settles either it's playrate or it's winrate will decrease at higher ranks.

Watery Grave is so much better than traditional mill cards, because it's the bottom. When it's from the top, you can potentially help your opponent by making it so they draw something next by milling above that point, there is the possibility it hurts them by getting rid of something important. When it's off the bottom, you eliminate that risk that normally accompanies traditional mill decks in a game like Magic. It can only be bad for them, by end their deck faster.

You’re misunderstanding how probability works. Destroying the top cards of a deck are completely symmetrical to destroying the bottom cards unless there’s a systematic reason that the top cards are different from the bottom cards.
Granted, there are a few ways the top cards could be systematically different from the bottom cards, like omen hawk, predict, and deep (bottom cards more likely to be champs).
But your argument about “potentially helping your opponent” by destroying the top cards is completely wrong because of the symmetry.
I know your argument feels right, but probability has a lot of unintuitive results that are nevertheless true and provable.

@@sagittariusa2145 I know it might feels like the same, but you're not changing what they draw, but also preventing them from fetching anything down there too incase they have that ability.

@@TheJadeFist I'm definitely not wrong, but let me illustrate with an example.
Let's simplify it a lot. Imagine watery grave said "obliterate the bottom card of the enemy deck" and alt-watery grave says "obliterate the top card of the enemy deck". Let's say the enemy deck has 2 cards, one of them is atrocity and the other is pesky specter. Let's say they have a big unit on the board and would win if they draw atrocity.
If you had 1 alt-watery grave in your hand, should you play it? There's a 50% chance of milling their atro, but also a 50% chance of getting rid of the specter and now they draw the atro. What if you don't play it? It's still 50/50 on if they draw the atro. What if you play normal watery grave? Still 50/50.
As you can see, in this simplified example, "not playing it", "playing it", and "playing the alt version" hasn't changed anything about the probabilities.
Now scale it up to 40 cards and 6 cards obliterated. Opp has no predicts, azir level 3, omen hawks, or deep. Same principle. If there's a 3/40 chance they draw a certain card next turn, winning them the game, what's the correct play? Should you play watery grave or alt watery grave or nothing?
The answer is based SOLELY on whether or not you want _information_. And if you do want information, watery grave is exactly the same as alt watery grave in _every_ relevant way.
Note that my _entire_ argument goes out the window if
      1) opp has predict, deck-specific shuffles like bloodbait, toss, or omen hawk-style effects
      2) opp has so few cards that they will eventually run out.
