I think what I love the most about this fight is how they did Vader’s lightsaber combat. Very rarely is the actual moves so eye catching that it actually draws my attention to them and not just when and how to react. Every movement and action of Vader’s feels immaculate, purposeful, each swing and strike leading into the next. On phase 3 it shifts into double time, he never stops except for brief moments, he mixes in force enhanced strikes with his normal ones without even changing the stance which if we didn’t have the red shift we’d be hit with something we wouldn’t be able to block completely unexpectedly. They truly make him a master lightsaber combatant and his lightsaber fighting actually looks like a true master of sword fighting.
In Fallen Order, Vader only ever uses one arm while wielding his saber-that’s actually his preferred method. But this time he uses both hands which means serious business, and he barely walked away alive.
Honestly, Vader probably just moved his body an inch at the right moment. She was diving, and really unable to change direction. Dude is to calm to not make a split second decision like that and counter the $%^% out of her the way he did. Still, brilliant fight.
Id be shaking and crying too after watching cere kill herself on vaders lightsaber he was stunned against a wall and she force jumped into her own death, why is starwars always doomed to never top what it was
Vader limping off from a fight is powerful in itself. There was nobody around that he held attachment to as Anakin, so he definitely wasn’t nerfed. Cere is just that strong of a Jedi…
You can see from the first phase of the fight that he's holding back, using only one hand for his lightsaber and even doing that cheeky force-block thing where he lowers his sword in the middle of a clash. But then as she proves that she's stronger than that, he actually puts both hands on his lightsaber and _tries._ By the time she drops that flaming shelf on him, he's actually, seriously fighting for his life. But Cere gets cocky _once_ and that's enough to seal her fate.

My favourite aspect is that Vader says nothing to Cere after he mortally wounds her. No gloating. No "you fought well". Just walks away. For Cere it was the most important, and ultimately last battle of her life. For Vader, it was Tuesday.
The thing I love about modern Star Wars (starting with Rogue One) is how they portray Vader as this unstoppable force. He is someone you *should* fear. And... I mean, tbh, Vader has plot armor
The way Vader has those hard strikes with both hands is so intense. I think he analyzed the fight rather quickly. He went easy on cere up intill the moment she slipped up. Sure cere was Jedi master but she is no match to Vader. He really don’t fuck around he just walks away and just goes back to work. So cold
If I'm looking at the timeline properly, Vader most likely fought Obi Wan before the events of this game, bc if you look at those past ten years, Obi Wan was the one thing Vader was obsessed with, before Sidious told him to forget about the past
The end scene was ruined for me by a stupid bug. Cal’s model was replaced with Cere, so Cere was holding herself with a blank expression and I was so confused. After a few minutes I realized what happened and was pissed.
Wait what really??? That’s so damn disappointing I love this game but it crashed on me twice that damn Kobo matter thingy that BD1 uses murders my poor game.
Her death cutscene was insane looking. I felt like I was watching an actual movie and Cal with long hair makes it look even better. It was almost or even is just as good looking as watching a Kotor cinematic (at least to me)
Based on what we've seen here and in Fallen Order, I'd say Cere's primary fighting form was Ataru. She's quite speedy on the battlefield and dedicates all her energy into a blitzkrieg assault. In a similar vein to Qui Gon Jinn, however, she made sure to temper her attacks, providing more room for defence when put on the backfoot. She adds to her offence by using Force abilities to hamper her opponents, preventing a counterattack, though this only works consistently if the opponent is decidedly weaker in the Force, which Darth Vader is not. The main weakness for Form 4 is presented in how Cere was defeated. Much like with Ven Zallow's duel with Darth Malgus, Cere fully dedicated herself to an attack and failed to notice the subtle movement of Darth Vader which allowed him to dodge her killing blow whilst simultaneously delivering one of his own.
The lightsaber forms were invented as a gameplay mechanic for the star wars role-playing game and its video game derivatives. They have never factored into any material outside that ecosystem and pretending otherwise is silly. Cere is not using anything. You wrote a paragraph of nerdy gobbledygook for no reason
@@kryptoskillet1131 And that’s all it is. Lore. Flowery words conjured up by some forgotten writer to add flavour to the rule book of a tabletop RPG. Seriously attempting to analyse any visual depiction of lightsaber combat through that lens is a worthless exercise.
@@kryptoskillet1131 It’s moronic to treat the lightsaber combat forms like they’re something that you can visually observe. They’re modifiers on a character sheet. Sorry to burst your bubble, but the animators who worked on Jedi Survivor were not thinking about lightsaber forms when they created these cutscenes. It’s not that deep.
Honestly, it might’ve just bounced off. There’s not much information about his armor, but in ESB, Luke swipes at Vader and his saber literally bounces off. Granted, this was from a time where lightsaber combat wasn’t really fleshed out, but I always assumed that Vader’s armor was at least somewhat lightsaber-resistant. So going for a stab and focusing all of that energy on one point is probably better than a slice.
Or if Vader didn’t have plot armor. This here is REAL plot armor. Not that made up shit. This game is considered canon to the Star Wars story/universe. Vader dies in episode 6 so no matter what he can never be allowed to die.
I agree, I hate when people say “comics Vader never would’ve struggled” I’ve read all the comics, and there are SEVERAL instances where he he comes very close to being beaten and most of the time he only wins because he “cheats” and, yknow, he doesn’t really care about dying
To be honest, I seen him push to his limits on legend even on the comic of Canon and besides every one of those he actually learned so even if they were tough years they were not oblivious years
Not going to lie but was not going to see Master Cordover dying and then Cere and Cal being there really tore into my soul. Cameron Monaghan is such a good actor :)
Its extremely good but I don't think the graphics even did his acting justice. I watched an interview with Debra (Cere) and she said shooting that scene was intense. She could literally feel Cameron's tears fall on the side of her face and her shoulders as he held her. It makes me wish this was a movie or series even more.
@@rumblefish9 Interesting you say that cause during the ending, when he finally finds the words to say to Cere, it really felt to me like he was crying, and the lack of tears stood out.
Alot of people don't give Cere the credit she deserves here because she's not an original cast character. She's one of the very few jedi masters that have been genuinely seduced by the dark side of the force and had truly conquered it. The only other noteworthy Jedi Masters that achieved this was Yoda, Mace Windu, Obi-Wan, and Luke Skywalker (And eventually Anakin). She might have been one of the strongest masters Vader has fought in a long time since most were simply afraid or have been neglecting their training. Not only did Vader think it was going to be an easy fight (like the first game where she got absolutely ragdolled) but it probably threw him off how strong she became.
Between the team sharing tea, cal and merrin's moment, bode's two-fold bombshell, and *THIS* , this has been the most erratic emotional rollar coaster I have been on in a while
Cere actually made him try and could have killed him if it weren’t for his last minute catch. Vader is op and all but people gotta give Cere her credit
Lucas realy got us all into thinking Jedi Masters were a bunch of useless (Prequels), I'm glad the Jedi are finally being shown as STRONG, before Cere, just with the movies, were like 3 or 4 actually strong Jedi Masters, the other ones were dying by dinossaur bites
@@Henrique-gh1wf This is explained in the Prequels. In Episode 2, there is a scene where Yoda and Mace Windu sit down and discuss the fact that their connection to the force is weakening; and debate if they should bring up this fact to the Senate. The Jedi Order at that point had become a shell of its former self, forgoing the teachings of Jedi of Old, and serving not the Will of the Force but the Republic and Senate.
Okay is it me or does this one feel like it had more of a Force Unleashed vibe than the first one? Especially with this fight, i don’t think we’ve fought Vader in a game since TFU2 and we’re not even at Starkillers power level. And I mean like a proper boss fight. Last game vader came in, almost dominated us with a force choke and we had to run for our lives lol
I like how in 80% of the expanded universe content Darth Vader shows up in (videogame, tv show, etc) he gets his ass beat and does that weakened breathing thing lol. Can't wait to see who else beat the hell out of Vader but didn't finish the job bc the original trilogy had to happen.
I love how vaders strikes get progressively stronger as he wants to end this fight as fast as possible, you could really feel the impact especially in the last phase of the fight when he was covered in flames. Maybe reminds him of the mustafar incident
Master Cordova and Cere's murders just.......there were few enough Jedi left when they lived and with them gone, the Order is one step closer to extinction. And all the knowledge that was gathered, a genuine second chance for the Order, reduced to four books and a pile of ashes. So much of the Jedi is lost.
Cere is such a pillar of bravery. She sees Darth Vader and the first thing she does is mock him, and challenge him to a duel. She’s going down as one of the most legendary Jedi in history.
I wonder why Vader was going so easy on her! He barely used the force at all in the cutscenes! You’d think that once you’re getting your ass kicked saber-wise because you’re the slower duelist that you’d rely on your overwhelmingly more powerful force abilities, but I guess Vader thought otherwise!
It is strange too, Vader kills Non-ForceUsers as fast as he possibly can. But he wanna "Hang out" basically with Force users. He tries to extend the duration of the fight aslong as he wants or something. Vader just LOVES it when his Opponent fears him and then he starts playing with them, see how far he can drive them deeper into Fear. In this Case where he fought Cere, she obviously shown that a Jedi that fights with no fear is as strong as a Sith who uses powerfull emotions to fight. And Vader din't seem to have expected this. Someone who fights with no fear blocking their thoughs has a verry clear insight on the situation and as it develops.
He wasn’t… he was trying his best… don’t forgot how powerful Jedi masters are… fucking idiots y’all gonna me this game look bad just because you think vader looks weak… like sorry buddy there’s thousands of extremely powerful Jedi the are equal to vader… including cere
man, the graphics in this version are crazy. The only thing I noticed is that in the PC version, you could hear Cal crying for Cere as he holds her, I couldn't hear it in this one, still rips my heart out.
Wasn't really happy to see her die but damn was that scene done extremely well. Easily one of the best scenes in a game (especially death scenes) that I've experienced.
7:18 this part was great since Vader was clearly trying to induce great fear in her by simply holding her blade back with the force, but she conditioned herself to have 0 fear of Darth Vader, so she quickly slips out from his grasp.
After all the Jedi Vader killed before this point cere is the only Jedi that died with Vader's respect he let her die in peace after cere almost killed him

I absolutely don't think Vader was nerfed here, but Ahsoka didn't give him a run for his money. She was able to keep up with him and get him by surprise while he was distracted. He still would have killed her if it weren't for Ezra and she was nowhere near close to actually killing him.
Cere is a Jedi Master, though. She was already a Jedi Knight even before the Clone Wars (while Anakin was younger than her and was only promoted to a Knight *during* the Clone Wars). Not only she is a Clone Wars veteran like Anakin, but she also survived the purge. If anyone has a chance of giving Vader trouble, its a Jedi Master of her capabilities.
And she still lost. No nerfs here.
Ahsoka snuck up from behind to land a hit on Vader. In a straight up fight, Vader straight up dominated and KO'd her. Horrible comparison.
@@JayL- i am not denying that Ahsoka lost, but i always assumed it was hard fought, because we cut from them fighting to Darth Vader stumbling out of the temple, exhausted like he just runned a 24 hours marathon. And ehy, not many people can claim to have sneaked up on Vader and hit him, it takes skills to even do that.
@@giacomoromano8842 no it doesn't, it's called protagonist magic aka ezra bridger armour. Plus they needed to milk ashoka tano as the character, they weren't even able to let her die, hence magical portals just so ezra could play white knight
Ngl this scene alone is way better than the whole star wars sequel from Disney
Considering that Disney had to approve the game story before it got made.

Still, brilliant fight.

Id be shaking and crying too after watching cere kill herself on vaders lightsaber he was stunned against a wall and she force jumped into her own death, why is starwars always doomed to never top what it was
For Cal, this was probably one of the worst days of his life. For Darth Vader, it was Tuesday.
Vader limping off from a fight is powerful in itself. There was nobody around that he held attachment to as Anakin, so he definitely wasn’t nerfed.
Cere is just that strong of a Jedi…
@Matheus Alcântara People don't realize that Vader is able to (nearly) lose sometimes, it just makes him more interesting.
Yup if only she didn't do that stupid, dive move she would have won.
Cere isnt that strong just plot.
Vader is actually nerfed because of his suit. Anakin is stronger.
Pulling her in with the force without choking her shows he was toying with her
My guy that doesn’t even make sense, it’s called force pull…ya know the move Cal can use for the ENTIRE GAME?? I love Vader and Anakin as much as the next guy but y’all be delusional trying to make him out to be this 100% unstoppable unbeatable being

For Cere it was the most important, and ultimately last battle of her life. For Vader, it was Tuesday.

Ataru would make the most sense, as judging by her former Padawan, Trilla’s fighting style in the last game, she also uses form 4, along with form 7

Imagine how the timeline would go if Cere went with a slice instead of a stab
"You should've gone for the slice."
Vader would have coughed her hand anyway
Honestly, it might’ve just bounced off. There’s not much information about his armor, but in ESB, Luke swipes at Vader and his saber literally bounces off. Granted, this was from a time where lightsaber combat wasn’t really fleshed out, but I always assumed that Vader’s armor was at least somewhat lightsaber-resistant. So going for a stab and focusing all of that energy on one point is probably better than a slice.
Vader grabbed her hand and redirected her attack. I don't think it would have made much of a difference whatever she did.
@@loganc751 in this I think it’s resistant, in the final cutscene she slices at his open hand and it doesn’t damage it.
Cere really gave Vader a run for his money. If he wasn’t so OP, she might’ve won.

Damn I didn’t know cere dies glad I read the title
I saw someone say that Vader's health bar is a patience meter and whenever it gets too low, he loses his patience and just kills you
Alot of people don't give Cere the credit she deserves here because she's not an original cast character.
One of the most intense and emotional scene of the game, Vader's combat style is spot on slow yet very stong

Cere is a legit Jedi Master, but that stab wouldn’t have killed him. He got stabbed in the same place in the last game and he just tanked it.
Sere dying from the EXACT same wound that Sabine just casually walks off like it was a flesh Wound

I love how vaders strikes get progressively stronger as he wants to end this fight as fast as possible, you could really feel the impact especially in the last phase of the fight when he was covered in flames. Maybe reminds him of the mustafar incident
my favorite part was the little shimmy he does to get back up at the end of the cere fight.
I love how Vader starts every fight using only one hand, then when he gets serious he two-hands it.
Darth Vader doesn't have a health bar.
Just a patience meter.
She’s going down as one of the most legendary Jedi in history.
cere had a serious chance of winning, but we know how the story ends
I love this because it reminds me of the legends comics of Vader fighting Jedi masters
Vader thinking he’s hot shit, little does he know I completed the double oggdo bogdo fight 30 minutes before this fight.
Vader walking away like “that’s gonna hurt in the morning.”
He was playing with his toys before breaking her
Well, he better be carefull next time when playing with his "toys", this one missed him by a few centimeters.
Most force users have a force barrier that needs to be broken first.
