Still have a super annoying issue with the metabones ultra 0.71x giving a "lens attachment failed" message when there is no lens to it. Meaning all vintage lenses like the helios 44 can't connect to the GH7 with the metabones speedbooster. I messaged panasonic about it but got stuck in support from with some weird question loop about the name of the speedbooster so I gave up after repeating answers. Fingers crossed they fix this. The GH7 is very good paired with the metabones and sigma 18-35. It's all I use right now. The GH4-5 whatever as I understood had a manual option with "shoot without lens", this was later removed in the GH cameras to a automatic detection of the lenses. That function would have fixed it. Thanks for the video Steven.
No problem. Ah thats annoying, I don't have the Metabones but I do use the Viltrox with some EF and vintage lenses on my GH5 and GH6. I'm sure you will have but have you checked that your Metabones adapter is on the latest firmware? Great to hear you are enjoying your GH7.
@ Yes the 4.10 update with functioning PDFA in the metabones is a gamechanger. Got it specifically for this combo and very happy appart from this annoyance.
That's strange, i have a 0.64XL Metabone and when i use vintage lens (Contax Zeiss but it's the same there's no contact points), i don't have this problem. It just asks me to set a focal length.
Hi Steven Your videos are so helpful. My Gh6 LCD screen stopped working today and I need to get it repair. Is this a common fault with LUMIX? Is it worth repairing and have you any experience in this area Thanks again Colm
Thank you, great to hear you are still finding them useful! Sorry to hear that, I have heard a handful of people mention screen failures on the GH6, I don't think its particularly common but it does seem to happen. Its not something I have ever had happen. Its worth finding out the repair cost I guess vs how much a new camera would be.
I was hoping they'll add something to improve noise... But PRORES RAW is useless to me because of the file sizes. Obviously Panasonic doesn't target to a regular users. At least for now :(
@@tomastrnkaYT Yeah ProRes RAW is quite a niche use-case and not for everyone, nice to have though if you ever did need it. What ISO are you at when your image is too noisy?
Thanks for this great video. Speaking of bugs(Even with the latest v1.2 firmware this problem persist.)-- When the GH7 is set to record Arri-LogC, using view assist when shooting LogC, if the LUT for view assist is NOT the default LogC-709 but anything you imported, it seems to interpret it incorrectly? It does something but not something i expected. I was trying to use a +1-Exp lut to help ETLR but this bug has made that impossible. It works as expected in Realtime LUT though, but not when you try to shoot in LogC color profile. I hope to record LogC but monitor with a proper LUT that has +1 Exposure compensation. The problem doesn't exist with V-log, only Arri LogC. Did you experience the same thing? (Sure i can bypass this issue by using an external monitor that would layer a LUT on top, but i really wish internal monitor can just do that. )
Thank you, I appreciate it 🙏 That Arri Log Assist feature is new so I would raise this with Panasonic directly. It's worth raising it on a Lumix Live (TH-cam) or commenting the issue on an old Lumix Live as well. I assume you are using LUTs from the Arri Look Library when you are getting this issue? I don't have the Arri LogC3 add-on yet so I can't confirm the issue on my side unfortunately.
Hey, full disclosure I don't own the GH7, only the GH5 and GH6 but I have had some hands on time with it. I guess it depends what camera you currently have and what you need in a new camera. If you are upgrading from an existing GH camera then an upgrade will get you the PDAF system which is much improved over the older DFD focusing system. I would say that the GH7 is a vast upgrade from the GH5 as you are getting that higher resolution sensor, better low light, flip screen, ProRes recording, SSD recording and tons more little features. It's worth noting that the body for the GH7 is much bigger than previous cameras like the GH5 due to the new fan on the back and the CF Express Type B card slot. You will also need a CF Express Type B card or a fast SSD drive to take advantage of those bigger video files. But if you are coming from the GH6 the main difference is the PDAF, 32-bit float through the XLR-2 recorder (sold separately for £499) and internal ProRes RAW. There are also some feature updates like Real-Time LUT, Lumix Lab support, Live View Composite, Pre-Burst, Proxy Recording and Frame.io integration. It also addresses some of the audio, HDMI and DR Boost issues the GH6 had. At the end of the day, you just need to weigh up what limitations you have on your existing camera (if any) and whether the GH7 with resolve any of those. Hope that helps.
I guess it really all comes down to whether you need any of those new features. I did a bit of a spec comparison here 👉 th-cam.com/video/S0xF2MzTlOo/w-d-xo.html I'm in a similar situation where I would really like to upgrade my GH5 to a GH7 but I am not desperate to upgrade. So I am just kind of sitting back and seeing what offers and new cameras come along in the meantime.
