Building a dome - Part 1

  • This is my DIY dome build.
The dome is home made with cheap Vapor Barrier and PVC Conduit.
The dome is 16 feet wide and 8 feet high. Big enough for a 12 to maybe 15 feet above ground swimming pool.
I'm installing my 12 feet swimming pool next week, I'll make a video about that and the dome around it.
Plastic I used is Vapor Barrier from the hardware store, very cheap one.
I use Parchment paper for soldering the plastic with a Heat Wood Carving tool, the one I'm using is a Weller WSB25WB with the largest tip in the kit. The Weller Tool is the same as a 25 watts solder iron.
Posts are made with 1/2 inch PVC electric conduit. I'm afraid I should have go with the 3/4 inch format, but we'll see how it does when the dome is in use.
It is foldable and folding is very easy. Greenhouse Swimming Pool Tent Foldable Dome Greenhouse Tent To Keep Water Warm | Solar Water Heater | DIY
It is inspired by the Sunny Tent design, check this company out, they make it perfectly.
Any questions? You're always welcome to comment, I always answer. Cheers!

You Sir are worth your weight in gold.
glad to see anyone who does not play the retail game of just buy the easy way with stupid high price pool enclosures.
you're an American innovator, geter done man, thinking WAY outside the box.
I'm proud of you, just outstanding concept and elegant design
I'd gladly buy one of these from you, you've just started your new enclosure kit business, no kidding, get a kit on the market.
let's see, camping, greenhouse, temporary housing, demolition cover, dry space for ground work, .
Elon will be taking this to Mars.
dang boy, you've got me fired up.
    my wife will kill me!!!

Your dome is fabulous! Your video inspired my mother and I to build one for my pool. My question to you is how many people helped you with this? As suggested in your comments I used 3/4inch pipe, which I think made it much harder to work with. We had a lot of fun melting the plastic together with the wood burning tool. Even though I burned myself 7 times with it! Ours did not turn out as good as yours but it's done. We had to make some modifications due to my pool being on a paver stone patio and not being able to anchor into the ground. We also ended up replacing the plywood with hunks of 2x10 because the strength of the pipes was breaking the plywood.

I have an above ground pool. We use like 8 big round doughnut tubes underneath the pool cover . It’s a pain in the ass !! I would love to try this ! But please tell me does it hold good through storms ? And how do you attach it so it stays to the ground!?? Please give feed back on your experience with it unless you have and I missed it somewhere? Or has any viewers made this yet ?? 😊

    • @TheChug
      @TheChug  ปีที่แล้ว +1

Hi, it was surprisingly holding very strong through storms. I think the dome shape makes it very stable in strong winds. It wasn't even attached to the ground at one side and it never opened with winds. I wouldn't worry at all... and if you are worried about very strong winds like hurricanes and tornados, simply open it up, takes 10 seconds.

17,5. So I bought 18 pieces. I used the half inch version, it works, but I think I would go with the 3/4 inch ones if I was redoing it... Not sure how more tough they are to bend. But would be more sturdy for sure. But half inch works for me.

    • @TheChug

@@sierrahylton2295 I used the connectors that already are on one end of the pieces. I used two 10 feet pieces and connected them together with a 5 feet piece. I made two 5 feet pieces by removing the connector from a 10 feet and cut it in half. So it's basically a 5 feet piece in the middle of two 10 feet pieces.
