How to build a Japanese Style Greenhouse

- Dear Wanderer!
Feel a warm welcome (back) here. This time I will take you on a slightly different journey. I needed to replace my old/weathered greenhouse, and I decided to build the new one myself, and i am glad i decided that way,
I have also wanted to give it a Japanese touch in style, well you decide if I succeeded.
Please keep in mind that I am not a Carpenter, so in this video i just wanted to share with you how I built it for myself.
As Ireland faces a lot of storm during the year, i wanted to build it out of wood, as it will give me more stability, on the other hand it will need more maintenance with paint and care.
Also it will be a new home for freshly repotted trees - Air layered trees - and mostly Japanese maples, so you can even call it a Tree shelter rather than a greenhouse i was not considering in the build about maximizing sunlight inside,
From step 1 till the finished Greenhouse/Tree shelter I will walk you through how I did every single step.
Hope you will have fun watching it, such as fun i hade when making it.
If you will have any questions please do not hesitate to share with me, will try to help you with my best knowledge.
Please bare in mind, that these videos are fully just for entertain you all! I am pretty sure that there is a lot more informed and educated people out there who would know much more than me about this subject ;)
Kind regards
Attila Csintalan

All kidding aside, thank you for uploading this video- I found it thoroughly enjoyable and informative. I love YT because it connects me to a whole world of humans who are passionate and in love with their craft. My brother (and I) were born in a wee Coastal town in South Western Scotland. He emigrated to Japan 20 yrs ago….like you he fell in love with their culture and their traditions. I shared this video with him, I’m sure he will appreciate your love and expertise of these Japanese techniques. All the best👊
I love YT for the exact same reason! Thanks for the kind words! Hope your brother enjoys every minute in Japan, on the bucket list of mine to visit one day ☺All the best Scott!

You are a true engineer and artists. Wonderful combination of simplicity, strategic construction, and style. The videography captured the joy of building while providing a great step by step guide. Thanks.
Thank you so much!😊
Harmony (Wa) indeed! Your attitude, design and process seem to reflect the concept well. A thoughtfully conceived and executed structure and video of great quality and beauty! Thank you for sharing!
Thank you so much for watching!
The patience, the know-how, the dedication and work ethic - that is a fantastic…………beard
Thanks Scott!
Its very nice. But as an FYI, don't say shou sugi ban, yaki sugi is the correct terminology. Shou sugi ban is a poor translation of the kanji characters by Americans and not a term used here in Japan.
Thank you so much for the info and correction! I will use it properly from now on! 😊
Beautiful custom made greenhouse. It doesn’t get better than this. Thank you for sharing your creative build. 👩🏻🌾🪴
Thank you so much for watching! 😊
I love the build, and reading all the comments, I'm clearly not alone. The one thing I will say, though, is that you probably wanted to treat those 4x4s you imbedded in the ground, or at the very least stuck some packed gravel in the bottom for drainage. Wood lasts far longer when it's not in direct contact with soil.
Thank you so much for the suggestion! Will def keep in mind!!! 🙂
That is a beautiful greenhouse, thank you for sharing!
Nice work! Charring the wood keeps the insects at bay as well.
Im so glad you decided to create a TH-cam channel, its been great to watch your creations. A really unique addition to my bonsai watch list. Amazing video mate. 👌
Thank you so much! 😊I am glad that i am on your list 😉
Every one of your videos have been a delight to watch, whether it's making an enchanting mixed forest or this beautifully made Japanese greenhouse. Your videos are also so well made : the right music, the right angles , every detail of the process is shown etc.
You may not be a carpenter but I feel the soul of an artist in you, an artist who can make , among other things, wonderful wooden greenhouses.
Thank you Attila for sharing your creations with us.
I am honored by your words! Truly! Thank you so much for watching and following, i will try my best for you and for myself 😉😊
Very very green tea!
Indeed 🙂
Aww yes, that traditional Japanese "syle" greenhouse. Using Pine lumber, 'L' section brackets and polycarbonate sheet... It's like I'm whisked away to the Asuka period!
You do realize that you can copy a style without using ancient techniques...
@@moneyjuice And what part of the "style" is polycarbonate copying? Taking into account that Japanese architecture didn't start to incorporate window glass, until the influence of Western postmodernism in the late 19th century. And that, while traditional Japanese gardens are know for their intricate design, there is not a traditionally Japanese form of green house. Which is again, a modern concept brought over by western culture.....So, what part of the "style" are we emulating?... Maybe title it:" A greenhouse that looks a bit like a Japanesey building I saw in a movie one time."
Very nice and very creative. I made one from conservatory roof panels, twin wall clear polycarbonate. Was very pleased with it but a few months into spring/summer I realised that the polycarbonate was restricting sunlight, so much so thst seedlings were very leggy and bedding plants stopped developing. Kept the wall panels but put glass in the roof and got a noticeable improvement.
Thank you so much! 😊Will keep in mind, but as i mentioned in the video, this is more like a tree shelter rather functioning as a greenhouse for newly repotted and Japanese maples 😉
I'm no expert but would say spot on for authentic Japanese, well done!
Thank you so much! 😊
Thats Stunning!!…I especially love that Lantern by the door!….I had to subscribe!❤❤❤
Thank you so much!😊
Great work. I love everything you've done. So beautiful when the lights are on. I'm sure your trees will thoroughly enjoy it in there.:)

とても興味深い温室です!素敵ですね!
Beautiful Greenhouse, and awesome job on the filming and editing. Next level relaxation, hope to see many more vids in the future, definitely gained a new sub.💪🏼
Thank you so much for your kind words!
Also I’m not sure if this works for this method but as a woodworker, I often LEAVE the dust from sanding on my project when I apply an oil or finish. It has this added benefit of “filling” in pores and micro cracks, making the project more sealed and finished. I suspect leaving (not washing) the char after you scrub it would actually help.
Thanks. I will def try it out next time!
Gracias por el video, lindo jardín y perro, quedo espectacular el greenhouse, saludos desde Chile
Muchas Gracias!
Tranquility defined in physical form.
Thank you so much! 🙂
We should have had to pay for this.
Also, I had no idea that I wanted to watch this.

Absolutely Stunning. Another summer project for me here in Central Florida. Hurricane protection for my Bonsai, succulents, and air plants.
Thank you Bruce! 🙂
Looks awesome. The japanese wood burning technique and oil looks stunning. I will definitely try some of these techniques on the farm. You did a great job mate, well done.
Wow very cool!
Very Nice!
Very good!
Inspirational
Magical 🏯
Nice work!
that is a beauty!!!! Makes me want to visit and share a meal of miso and teriyaki with you!
And I love the shosugibon! I made a queen size futon loft bed using that technique! turned out amazing.. but impractical as it took too much space in my man-cave / youtube studio... so I took it down... I do love the double burn... creates an amazing texture after sanding down twice!
Thank you so much 😊 Would lover to see that bed
You are an artist:)
Beautiful Work. And so Inspiring! :)
Thank you so much! ☺
Very nice work
Wow so impressive! Well done!
Very great. Amazing work. Good luck
Thank you so much
Thank you very much for your video. Great.
Your very welcome! 😊
very cool..inspiring..
Congratulations. But as a recommendation, you should use a wood protector when installing it underground. That way it doesn't rot so quickly.
In Chile it is called Carbolineo, black in color. Greetings !
Thanks! When i will do some yearly maintenance i will add some more support to the base and will use this technique! ☺
Looks great, if in Prescott Ontario the building inspector would remove it as well as the vegetation… you are fortunate to be where you are.
Amazing 👍🤩👍
Wow! Gorgeous!
Thank you so much! 😊
Utterly awesome!!
Thank you so much! 😊
Merci pour se moment d'apaisement est d'éveil sur l'art japonais , belle fabrication comme j'aime . Merci encore pour la vidéo
