@@Thorstevens1 Indeed. His interpretation of Stravinsky's "Rites of Spring", on his album by the same name, is beyond marvelous. The album, released in the 70s I think, is, like the original composition, timeless.
I learned to emphasize tone and realize a good flutist doesn't correlate with playing so many notes at once. Hubert taught me the importance of empty space as you climb the energetic release of stair-stepping octaves with a flourish .
This song is so perfect,........it is not only the music,...........but it is the absolute synergy between the players..............they are perfect playing together................they are perfect........It is almost as if they are one person in 5 bodies................This is heaven.........I wish it would never end.............

I heard about this tune from an avid jazz follower awhile back...and here it is years later I am now having the pleasure of listening to it...and Admittedly I'm saying, where have I been ...it's a tune that immediately has your attention: it's a light rhythmic but not imposing tune yet evocative and surely earns its title...The Land of Passion... thanks sir....peace
Brilliant. Utterly beautiful. I was in Brazzavile n the Republic of Congo and a guy came to play flute for tips. I said he was like Hubert Laws and he was so excited.
Sounds so good concerning how long ago this was the way I started liking Jazz listening to my daughter playing the flute while all the others was doing their thang...I fell in love with Jazz band from that point I never missed a Jazz concert From college until today.
Mr. Laws is a hero among flautists. Others also have great technique, but his musicality is unique and sets him apart. I wonder what kind of flute he plays?
From Land of Passion....also on many compilation albums with and without vocals. The entire Laws family are "musicians" but NONE including Ronnie (who achieved much commercial success) even come close to touching Hubert's level of musicianship......although there aren't many musicians that have. He's one of the few flutists who successfully crossed over from playing classical to becoming the most prolific jazz flutist ever.....there are weak links in his performance style......tone, technique, feel.....he's got it all.
The most beautiful tone of any jazz flute player.
yup im proud of him
He's so good!
Absolutely-
Not too shabby of a classical player either!

Un musicien absolument génial qui mériterait beaucoup plus que ce que les gens lui donnent aujourd hui en 2024 !
Mr. Laws, you take the flute to another level of greatnes, just beautiful, thank you ! I love my flute!

Claude Debussy-The music is between the notes
Hubert, Bobbie Humphrey, Dave Valentine...all extraordinary flutists...this live half tempo upbeat is an interesting take on the original! 👍🏾

Hubert Laws is a Master of the Flute, not only a great flute player, but a wonderful jazz educator.

So beautiful
Turning back pages but never letting go of the magic of a full sound.
Hubert always makes me think I'm in a dreamland. One of the first jazz musicians I listened to.
My ears have been blessed
Just discovered this group. I found their "Land of Passion" LP at a local thrift shop and now loving it!
You should get Hubert Laws' "Afro-Classic" recorded in the 1970s. His Vulcan musical mind-meld of the classical & jazz idioms is brilliant.
Magnifique. Thanks.
Sometimes all you can say is ...... thank you!!!
