Hey guys!!! My sister, Eden, just posted a video on her 6 month ukulele progress and it's great!!! If you want some more encouragement, here is the link: th-cam.com/video/lneXjD9Cz0I/w-d-xo.html
Elise Ecklund I absolutely love your videos, I hate to be needy but I’ve been trying my best but can seem to play these two songs: “Fool” by cavetown and “tongue tied” by group love and I would love if you could post a tutorial❤️
Microwave it has been twomonth since I started and I’m self teaching myself. I was stressed out about strumming but one day I just got it. You need to practice at least 5 minutes a day. And bar chords also become much easier. It was on the tenth day I learned how to strum. I was such a great achievement. Keep on going you will be much better. :))
She also played guitar already so her 2 day progress is not typical of a beginner. But I love that she is so positive and encouraging with her community.
I’m Hawaiian so I grew up with ukuleles in my house and occasionally would pick it up when I was younger. Around 11 years old (2011) I learned how to play my first songs, just some basic stuff like twinkle twinkle little star and happy birthday but it wasn’t until 5 years later until I seriously started to play. You could probably guess who my inspiration was lol. After finding tøp I wanted to learn how to play their songs and since Tyler plays ukulele I wanted to as well and play just like him 😊 Edit: actually you too Elise! Finding your channel really helped me learn the songs I love in a really simple and easy way that I needed especially when I was a beginner so thank you so much!
Yoooo me too!!! my grandmother is Hawaiian so I had a very nice ukulele in the house and I picked it up a few times before finding the pilot boys and becoming inspired to continue and actually learn to play like tyler did !!! and we share a name so that helped shhfhsha
I've been playing for almost 6 months and getting a little discouraged but this video makes me feel better about my progress. It's not really fast progress but it's steady. Now I'm inspired to keep going and pushing along.
I've been playing the ukulele 6 months as you and i started learning Bodysurfing by Honoka and Azita :) learning the ukulele i think is just a question of time and a lot of practise, i'm able to do intermediate fingerstyle and doing the E chords or bars chords don't bother me anymore xD but well i practise ALL DAYS so i recommend you the same to reach a high level :3
She played guitar beforehand, so she was more familiar with singing and strumming. She also knew how to transition pretty good because of that guitar experience, she just had to learn new chords.
Ive been playing ukulele for about a year and a half now and my biggest struggle is strumming patterns idk what it is but it's hard for me. I don't practice every day so there's that I guess. I played guitar a little when I was younger but wasn't very good at it. I figured uke might be easier since it's smaller and less strings (I'm a small person so it matters). Of course twenty one pilots got me into playing the uke but I'm glad I made the impulse buy off of amazon while I was Christmas shopping for my family. It's fun and helps me relax after class. I just look up how to play a song Ive had in my head that day and practice til I'm happy with it. Along with you and a few other TH-cam tutorials too I can't thank you enough for making your videos. Your vids help me tweak my style to make it better and inspire me to try new techniques and practice more.
Ahhh that's so awesome that you've been keeping it up for a year and a half!! Keep on going and practicing those strumming patterns! I know you will achieve your goals eventually!:) Thank you for sharing your story! I'm honored to hear that my tutorials have helped play a part in your progress
Imagine being this pretty and this good at playing so many instruments and such a fast learner and this smart and this funny and this good at entertaining. You're amazing Elise! Edit: *1 year 10 months* we have upgraded to Wii. Time to rule the internet
It boggles my mind when people leave disrespectful comments for you. Your videos are so fun and informative. You are so down-to-earth and so real that I feel like I am watching family. Your voice is very unique and your mechanics are near perfect. Your timing is awesome and you're playing is beautiful. You are a sweet beautiful young lady and I am often inspired by your videos. As a matter of fact you have inspired me to purchase a ukulele. I will be purchasing one that you have recommended. Thank you so much and please continue to make your videos. The world is a little bit sweeter because of them!
May_Rain 72 ahh that's so sad! Keep on trying. I thought I was hopeless but I eventually have gotten better and it really impresses people. I even am playing it for my class for a project! Good luck! Ily!💕👍
That Weird Kid that happens to me too. try starting with single strums while singing so you can get use to the chords. you have to drill the strumming pattern into your mind
I just discovered your channel and even though I haven't seen all this growth first hand, i still think its so cool how far your covers have come in 2 years. I didn't really decide to truly push myself until earlier THIS YEAR!! (and ive been playing for 5 years) all in all im impressed :) you go girl!!
Hi☺ I just wanted to say that you are one of the people that inspired me to play the ukulele. I found a ukulele randomly long ago in my grandmas house (where I live because we live together) and I decided to come back to it and try it out. I ask my grandma if I could have it and she said yes. It is missing some strings so now I am looking forward to buying strings and learn to play it.
i keep forgetting, i had to constantly remind myself throughout the video that she has experience with other instruments so i don’t need to be discouraged hahah
Thank you for keeping going with your ukulele playing, and for documenting your progress! I'm a music teacher, and I have already shown several of your videos to my students in class, especially since my 5th graders are going to be learning the uke this year! Thank you for your part in bringing the ukulele into mainstream popularity, and for providing my students a solid role model on what can happen when you keep going, and keep practicing.
I play since 3 months and half and my challenges are to get better at singing while playing and also trying to be good at muted strums Amazing video, love ya
YOU ARE MOTIVATION AND INSPIRATION. Not only for playing ukulele, but for everything, that's why I love you! Btw I'm playing uke for a month and, thanks to your tutorials that I saw even when I did't have a uke, I'm proud of what I'm able to do (even if I'm not very good yet)
My inspiration was my doctor saying music therapy helps when you get to be a age when you notice problems remembering and some other things. I told him I have no musical talent and he said anyone can learn the ukelele. I picked up one 6 days ago I believe I'm making decent progress, if nothing else I enjoy just sitting down and strumming it. My biggest problem is I have short stubby fingers making some chords impossible to play, but I'm having a good time and I'm able to remember the chords I can play. Whether it works with me with my forgetfulness during conversations or not time will tell. For such a young woman you are a very good at teaching. Do you teach professionally? Your videos are very good and entertaining, thanks for sharing your knowledge.
I've been playing ukulele for a few years now, and I have been upset with myself for not being better at it by now, but then I have to remind myself that I've also been playing about 5 other instruments regularly and trying to improve on those as well as work on school so it's okay to not be as amazing as you yet.
I’m starting to play and I’m having lots of trouble switching cords fast, there’s a lot of buzz, and sometimes my fingers get stuck in the strings when strumming. I try to practice everyday and your videos have helped me so much!💕
If your fingers get "stuck" when you're strumming up, try relaxing your fingers and strumming naturally. I'd say 8/10 hours is what it takes to subconsciously form muscle memory for proper strumming! Keep "plucking away" at it, you'll get it in time :) Have fun, it helps you to learn faster and concrete them skills. And you will practice more! Playing your instrument will feel more like making sweet love, than a one night stand. What I'm trying to say is, you'll like it :)
OH DANG. So proud of you for this practice!! But also, thank you for posting this. It will hopefully be something that keeps encouraging me and reminds me to take a deep breathe whenever i start making too many mistakes in a row. I’ve only been playing for like, 2 months more or less.
In such a short time, you've gone from a pure beginner to a legitimate performer and entertainer at the instrument. The level of improvement and confidence in yourself over that time is staggering. Congratulations on your outstanding achievements.
I started to learn to play my first song( House of Gold by TOP) on ukulele a couple weeks ago without any instrument experience (except for a little recorder in elementary school )and I played through the entire song today and I can sing to it now which was very difficult at first, I’m really excited to play more songs and would like to thank Elise for the amazing tutorial I used to practice 😊
chubbycat 18 I first learned house of gold as well a week ago. I don’t own a ukulele. I somehow learned house of gold on my friends ukulele. Without it ever leaving her house. That’s the only song I know on the ukulele. Now I have convinced my mom to get me one. Woo hoo
I'm 44 and started playing the violin about 2 years ago and picked up the ukulele about 2 weeks ago. TH-cam channels like your's have inspired me. Thanks for all the time and effort you put into the vids. Kia Johnson has a great cover of fire flies with the ukulele and violin if your interested. Thanks again
This is so cool! I have only had my uke for about 4 months but this just encouraged me to practice more! At first I really stuggled with just being able to strum and sing but it has gotten better! I cant wait to hopefully be at your level someday!
I started five days ago and you’ve been the best teacher! I’m shocked you’ve only been playing for two years. Now I’m inspired to push myself once I’ve, you know, mastered actual strumming...
I ordered a soprano ukulele 2 weeks ago. I practiced two full days but decided to send it back and order the concert ukulele. It came in 1 week ago. I practice a couple of hours a day and force myself to stop. It is so fun and the challenge of correct hand/finger position, strumming patterns, basic plucking, chord changes and humming (not singing yet) is a total blast! I never thought I’d play a string instrument. I played clarinet as a young person. You can’t sing when you do that, lol! Everyone should try ukulele!
Oh my God!! It's so sweet that your sister also used Luna to learn how to play ukulele. I just started to learn yesterday, and I'm so grateful for being a great teacher
You’ve come such a long way! You’re such an inspiration! I’ve been playing off an on for about a year and a half, but you inspire me to be more consistent! Thank you for everything!
I have been playing the ukulele for the past 6 months and I can play Fur elise and sweet child o mine finger picking quite comfortably and I've been experimenting with melodies too. All thanks to you , I learned a lot many songs , just by seeing your tutorials. Keep up the good work.
Me playing one month : i can't play G chord. Me playing two months: wtf is the strumming? How to strum? Elise playing two days: sings and plays in one moment. And the chords are Em , G and other hard.... Edit: I am not English there are many mistakes
I got my ukulele on February and now I have have been playing for 3 months and I have improved because your channel inspired me to play ukulele more and improve
I haven't started yet to play Ukulele but am intrigued with it. I appreciate that you explain your experiences within the 2 years - like how long it was into it before you felt like you didn't have to look at your hand when changing cords. This help me a lot because I always tend to imagine I'm just not as good at things as other people are and the challenges I'd face I'd tend to think are harder for me than other people so the perspective is very helpful for someone like me.
i’ve been playing ukulele for 9 months and i think the most challenging thing was singing and strumming at the same time. i love your vids, keep it up♥️
I am so loving your videos!!! You and your sister are so very kind to eachother, and I love that you not only show the progress you've made, but you also explain for the rest of us! Its really nice to study as someone interested in music, and ukulele technique. Thank you for posting these!
I think your finger style videos are amazing. I’m excited to see more. I’ve been playing ukulele for two months and I’ve been making incredible progress thanks to your videos
It's been like 7 months i've been playing ukulele, and definitely you're one of my biggest inspirations! Your videos make me wanna learn more, I love your style!! And I'm really proud of your improvement 💕
Learning Ukulele now for the past 10 months, thanks for the great insight into what you can do in two years. I am new to music (78) and this is my first real musical challenge. It was a great help to see what the trip could have in store. Penrich.aka
Okay im late but im gonna tell my progress: (no one is gonna see this but okay) the first day i got my first song that was im yours i already knew how to strum and sing at the same time. A week later i already knew 4 songs. Then one month i stop playing because i was busy with school. Then at month between 3-4 i pick up the uke again and i learnt like 15 songs, including plucking, a lot of strumming pattern in one song. then at the month 5 i learned herw comes the sun in fingerstyle and i can say that il proud of myself now im going back to guitar (sorry for my bad english is that im from Colombia)
I have been playing the ukulele for a month and I have learned how to play Lava, Sway and I'm yours. The most challenging thing for me at the very beginning was changing chords. Now, I am getting better, but unfortunately, I can only practice 40 minutes per day. I wish I could practice longer but... Thank you very much for sharing your progress, you are really talented.
First, you're so pretty! I love what you did with your hair for that video❤️ Second, I also noticed that in the first months / year your struming was pretty guitar-ish and in the last year it became more uke-ish... idk😂
Thank you!!! And yes! I understand what you're saying! It was a bit of a challenge figuring out how to transition from guitar to uke:) it just took some time!
I'm the same as you! I've had mine for 2 days and I've been practising for hours but I can't find a comfortable way to strum. However I have found some advice and I would try to do what you find most comfortable, for me at first it was my thumb, the pad of my thumb to strum down and the nail to strum up, but there is also (more popular) your index finger in which you use your nail to strum down and your finger pad to strum upwards (though I'm still trying to figure out which is most comfortable for me), and also try to aim for where the neck of the ukulele meets the body for where you strum as you get a nicer and stronger noise. I hope this helps xx
I've been playing my uke for almost 7 months now and it's literally one of my best choises in my life😍💖 But actually now I don't have much time to play because of school so I have a little problem with switching between chords smoothly but I'm getting better so that's ok😂🤗
I’ve just started learning today after discovering your channel two days ago and being seriously impressed. I picked up a random ukulele at a group the other day and it just felt right, and now I’m seriously going to learn. Thanks for the inspiration.
Recently I've been wanting to learn how to play the ukulele, so finding your videos and seeing how much you can improve over 2 years makes me really hopeful that me, a person with literally no musical talent, could learn to play the ukulele decently. Im planning on getting on at around Christmas, and i was actually inspired by my friend. She posted a video on her Instagram of her singing cant help falling in love and that made me really interested. Tyler Joseph was also a big inspiration as i can relate to him as a person a lot and to see him evolve as an artist makes me feel like i could be successful someday too.
Been playing for a month and a half and everyday i face my greatest enemy, my most ferocious foe, my most adroit adversary while scrolling through uketabs... the dreaded e and bar chords! Those monsters haunt my dreams with their teasing muted sounds and block the bridge to beautiful berceuses with threats of pain! But i... oh i work tirelessly everyday to slay those demons! MWAHAHAHAHAH! Please ignore me its like 1 am and i havent gotten any sleep for the past month soooo......
I will be getting my first uke in less than a month. I am researching videos for before I pick mine up. Your channel is the one I've watched the most. Thank you!

I’m starting to play and I’m having lots of trouble switching cords fast, there’s a lot of buzz, and sometimes my fingers get stuck in the strings when strumming. I try to practice everyday and your videos have helped me so much!💕
I'm so happy to hear my videos have helped! Keep on strumming friend! You will reach your goals
If your fingers get "stuck" when you're strumming up, try relaxing your fingers and strumming naturally. I'd say 8/10 hours is what it takes to subconsciously form muscle memory for proper strumming! Keep "plucking away" at it, you'll get it in time :)
Have fun, it helps you to learn faster and concrete them skills. And you will practice more!
Playing your instrument will feel more like making sweet love, than a one night stand. What I'm trying to say is, you'll like it :)
The one year and 10 months mark was so wholesome on 6:44
Woo hoo
jgsregrate sounds like a great Christmas gift 🎁 lol
The year after this comes the ages of kids bop.
I'm so excited! I'm ordering a new ukulele tomorrow! Your videos inspire me a lot Elise, thank you!💖
Oh my God!! It's so sweet that your sister also used Luna to learn how to play ukulele. I just started to learn yesterday, and I'm so grateful for being a great teacher
I've been playing for a year and you've helped me improve in the past 1 year!!!#spreadthe💖
Love you Elise baiiiii😄😄💖💖!!!!
You an Tyler Joseph are the reasons I learned to play and I learned from you and I don’t know what I’d be doing with my life without it😊🖤
This gives me hope. I'm not gonna give up.
You’ve come such a long way! You’re such an inspiration! I’ve been playing off an on for about a year and a half, but you inspire me to be more consistent! Thank you for everything!
Everyone: learns a song a month
Me: i cant even hold my uke correctly
Frustration :'(
I have been playing the ukulele for the past 6 months and I can play Fur elise and sweet child o mine finger picking quite comfortably and I've been experimenting with melodies too.
YES! G is so difficult right now for me
You didn't even edit your comment😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣🤦🏻♀️
I started uke about 5 months ago in January and I'm quite proud of my progress. Your tutorials have helped me along the way so thank you for that.
Elise:After 2 days can play a cover and change chords really good
Me:After 2 days is till tuning
I got my ukulele on February and now I have have been playing for 3 months and I have improved because your channel inspired me to play ukulele more and improve
OH, QUEEN, *SLAY*
OMG, Getting a reply from you makes my day 😘
I haven't started yet to play Ukulele but am intrigued with it. I appreciate that you explain your experiences within the 2 years - like how long it was into it before you felt like you didn't have to look at your hand when changing cords. This help me a lot because I always tend to imagine I'm just not as good at things as other people are and the challenges I'd face I'd tend to think are harder for me than other people so the perspective is very helpful for someone like me.
it took me 3 years to start to do idontwannabeyouanymore with finger picking... oof your so much better than me. SLAYYYYY QUEEN.
i’ve been playing ukulele for 9 months and i think the most challenging thing was singing and strumming at the same time. i love your vids, keep it up♥️
I am getting my ukulele, and I think i'm going to try doing this!
I am so loving your videos!!! You and your sister are so very kind to eachother, and I love that you not only show the progress you've made, but you also explain for the rest of us! Its really nice to study as someone interested in music, and ukulele technique. Thank you for posting these!
You are amazing!
Thank you!!:)
I think your finger style videos are amazing. I’m excited to see more. I’ve been playing ukulele for two months and I’ve been making incredible progress thanks to your videos
Thank you!!! And I'm so happy to hear that you're making progress! That's awesome!!:)
This is really cool! I can see the progress I could make if I stick to it!!
It's been like 7 months i've been playing ukulele, and definitely you're one of my biggest inspirations! Your videos make me wanna learn more, I love your style!!
And I'm really proud of your improvement 💕
QUEEN IS BACK WITH ANOTHER VIDEO
Learning Ukulele now for the past 10 months, thanks for the great insight into what you can do in two years. I am new to music (78) and this is my first real musical challenge. It was a great help to see what the trip could have in store. Penrich.aka
Three days in a row 😃
You are legit! I am absolutely encouraged by your progress! I just purchased my first ukulele and ready to get to it!
Okay im late but im gonna tell my progress:
(no one is gonna see this but okay)
the first day i got my first song that was im yours i already knew how to strum and sing at the same time.
A week later i already knew 4 songs.
Then one month i stop playing because i was busy with school.
Then at month between 3-4 i pick up the uke again and i learnt like 15 songs, including plucking, a lot of strumming pattern in one song.
then at the month 5 i learned herw comes the sun in fingerstyle and i can say that il proud of myself
now im going back to guitar
(sorry for my bad english is that im from Colombia)
I have been playing the ukulele for a month and I have learned how to play Lava, Sway and I'm yours. The most challenging thing for me at the very beginning was changing chords. Now, I am getting better, but unfortunately, I can only practice 40 minutes per day. I wish I could practice longer but... Thank you very much for sharing your progress, you are really talented.
First, you're so pretty! I love what you did with your hair for that video❤️
Second, I also noticed that in the first months / year your struming was pretty guitar-ish and in the last year it became more uke-ish... idk😂
Thank you!!! And yes! I understand what you're saying! It was a bit of a challenge figuring out how to transition from guitar to uke:) it just took some time!
I just got a ukulele for Christmas and I’m struggling to strum it in a specific way but you inspire me to keep going and not give up
I'm the same as you!
Harley thank you so much for the advice It really means a lot good luck in your uke journey
You are so amazing!!!
Thank you!!!:)
You are the reason why I started to play uke!! I have been playing only one month and I can see the difference! Hugs from Finland😊♥️
who is here now after 3 years of her playing?🥺❤️
I believe in yoooou! I’ve been playing ukulele for 2 months! What’s difficult is strumming patterns but I’m getting there!
What got you inspired?
Who inspired you?
Have you already answered those questions?
-Probably-
Recently I've been wanting to learn how to play the ukulele, so finding your videos and seeing how much you can improve over 2 years makes me really hopeful that me, a person with literally no musical talent, could learn to play the ukulele decently.
Thank you!
You should do John Legend’s All of me.
I got my first ukulele yesterday from my parent all because of you ilysm elise😊❕❤️
In your first cover you played better then me now
Its been about two weeks since I’ve gotten my ukulele and Elise is definite my inspiration when it comes to music
OMG YESS QUEEN💕
