      Hey jade
July by Noah Cyrus is a easy song to learn
And If you learn the strumming pattern and automate it than you can learn a lot more songs simple.
Ik vind je video's heel leuk!

I’ve been playing the guitar for about twelve years now, so when I started the ukulele a few months ago it was so very easy for me haha:) But it’s really lovely to see someone without prior musical knowledge try to learn an instrument, you just need to keep practicing! Once you’ve understood basic terms and technique it will be much easier:) Also here’s a bit of help for beginners: 1. frets are the parts between the white lines 2. when moving from one fret up to the next it is a half tone up 3. major and minor are two different types of chords, major chords sound “happy” and minor chords sound “sad” 4. chords are named after their fundamental note, e.g. the g chord is built from the g note 5. there are basically 7 notes: cdefgab 6. it’s normal if your fingers hurt after practicing as a beginner without any experience with string instruments, your fingers need to adjust, so after a few days or weeks of practice it will go away (it depends how fast you will learn the exact amount of pressure you need to put on the strings of your ukulele/guitar) 7. when you think which instrument you want to buy, don’t buy the really cheap ones on amazon, they’re really bad... of course you don’t need a very expensive one at the beginning but try fo find a decent one, read the reviews or just go to your local music store 8. technique is important, but if you feel like quitting because it’s to hard, try to play some songs that you really want to play (just like jade did) so that you don’t loose your motivation too fast 9. when you should come across sheet music, there are two types: tabs and standard music notation, if you don’t know how to read notes like it is taught in music theory, than you’d have to use tabs (they show you the number of the fret on the string that you need to play) 10. just have fun and keep practicing!

In your bucket list video you mentioned learning beginner music theory but you wasn't sure how to quantify what 'beginner' standard was. Everyone learns differently, but if it helps, I recommend perhaps starting with grade 1 ABRSM music theory! ABRSM is a music exam board (a bit like AQA, Edexcel etc), where you can take grades in instruments/music theory, with grade 1 being the easiest. They publish practice books for music theory, and there are also some great playlists on TH-cam for learning as well! Being an exam board you can expect the learning to be quite structured, but even if thats not your learning style, it still might be a good place to start just so you get an idea! Although I have played violin for many years now, and taken practical grades, I have not studied music theory/taken any music theory exams, and haven't encountered any major difficulties (although at higher levels theory becomes important to understand) . Everyone learns differently, and I personally found that just through playing the instrument, you pick up the relevant music theory, so I'd say for the moment don't worry too much about it! :)

I've been learning to play the guitar since lockdown began and it's so satisfying to see how much I've improved over 3 months!! What has kept me playing (nearly) every day is that I've made it compulsory for myself to never miss one day in a row of playing, and I take a selfie of myself with my guitar every time I play as evidence. It might sound stupid but it's super effective! And also, the more I've played guitar, the more fun it's become! 😊 Enjoy your ukelele journey Jade! Xx

Music is such a massive part of my life been playing violin for 11 years (but I'm not great) as well as Piano for 6 and Tenor sax for a couple of years. I love them all so much but I don't think I go a day without playing Piano (my main instrument), honestly would never get through quarantine without it! I have also picked up a new instrument called an otamatone and if you're ever bored I honestly just recommend watching otamatone videos on youtube bc they're so fun to watch!

As someone who plays the guitar (and dabbles in ukulele), I loved watching this! A lil tip to help with your chords: put the thumb of your left hand FLAT on the back of the neck (where the frets are). And then your wrist will sit underneath the neck, rather than behind it. It feels a little unstable at first, but it'll stop you from accidentally pressing down on other strings. Hope that makes sense haha! Good luck with the uke!!

Somehow I feel like a friend of yours. I can relate so much to your videos. I've always been like "I'm not a musical person" or "I'm not an artsy person" but I had always wanted to be. So during this quarantine I have started to paint and of course is not he best, but I enjoy doing it, it brings a joy that I don't experince often. Jade, if you are a little stressed about chord changes, strumming, and singing at the same time, here's a tip. This might sound a little weird, but to get used to only singing and strumming at the same time, you can use a hair brush and strum the bristles of it while singing so you don't get to worried about how the uke sounds and chord changes. Then once this gets comfortable you can go back to your uke and add the chord changes. Thanks for sharing and I hope this tip helps as it helped me when I was learning!

I played acoustic guitar in a music school for 11 years. From my perspective it sounds great, but I don't want to judge anything else, because an acoustic guitar and an ukulele are two separate worlds.

I really enjoyed watching your ukulele journey!
    1. I hope you now have learnt that the frets are the spaces in between the 'lines'
    2. A tuner is much better! It's going to be more accurate and most tuners these days are clip-on ones so the sound of your surroundings doesn't affect it
    3. The ukulele is AMAZING! I could play a song I liked in a matter of days. With piano, I have played it for 3 years and can't really play any legit songs.

You’ve made so much progress in such a short space of time!! And don’t worry about your nails wearing down - I had many a blister for the first few months that I learnt to play but your fingertips eventually harden slightly and get used to the pressure! x

I started ukulele in October when I joined the uke society at my uni and the idea of strumming DDU UDU stressed me out so much at first!! I finally cracked it when we did one of my favourite songs because I didn’t need to look at the lyrics at all, so that was one less thing to think about. You’ll get there!!

i love this so much! i began playing my uke at the start of 2018 and i'm in love with the sound of it! she's honestly like my child hahah! here's a handy tip that i wish i'd been told: make sure that u always check that ur uke is in tune BEFORE playing- even if u think that it is! it's amazing how even a slightly out-of-tune string can totally ruin how the song sounds so always always always check it! good luck with the rest of ur ukulele journey!! ahah :)) this was such an uplifting video (as per usual ofc! what am i saying!?)

I bought the exact same ukulele a few weeks ago haha!! It's so much fun!! Also there are some songs you can learn where you don't have to sing! I'm leaning those first bc I'm not about to sing lmao, I learnt the happy birthday melody the other day xx

I taught myself ukulele and guitar in the last year and there are 2 websites you absolutely need to know! One of them is ‘Ultimate Guitar’ - what you said at the end about finding lyrics and chords on pinterest, it’s an entire website for that. It will tell you the chords along with lyrics and what fret you need capo on etc. Really good for when you’re starting out. As you get better and want to play less famous songs there’s a website called ‘Chordify’ where you can search for any youtube video and it will automatically convert the song on youtube into chords which will pop up when you need to play them. Both are so useful! Good luck with your musical journey!✨💜

ahhhh you are amazing and have been an inspiration to me for so long!!! i just wanted to say that I actually loved your singing:) i also play the ukulele so I just wanted to let you know that you can choose to learn “fingerstyle” songs instead which is where you wouldn’t have to sing at all. that’s what I do and i’ve been really enjoying it.

this was incredibly painful for me to watch at the beginning as someone who has played uke for 3 years and i did music all through school so I knew all the relating music terms but then i remembered it took me three weeks to finally play a G chord when i first started😅 keep going you’re doing great!!! also for someone who’s “not a singer” you sound great! i highly recommend the website ukutabs for chords to songs, the ukulele teacher on youtube for lessons and also get a capo for your uke so you can sing along in a more comfortable key ❤️

Just with the playing, the singing will get better the more you try it. When I started to play the guitar my voice was very weak but after a while it just kind of magically improved😱🙃😂.

I love this!! I'm studying music education, and it's really nice to watch you learn from scratch :) I admire your persistence and could learn from that.. A tip I'd like to share: my teachers always remind me that when you start a new piece you should try to focus on making it rhythmical more than on playing the right notes. So for instance, when you struggle with switching from one chord to another (I do on the piano, but it's the same problem on guitar and ukelele) you slow down because of that. That's totally okay! But make sure that the tempo you choose is one you can comfortably play the whole piece at without these stops. This makes a huge difference because it makes it sound much more musical. And this helps to enjoy playing it! And when this goes well you speed it up little by little :) Maybe you already do this, I couldn't tell for sure from the clips. But I think its good to be really aware of when practicing. Also, you have a lovely voice

According to your opinion practicing hard is one of better thoughts whatever I’d heard and also you depended it on you your own. Actually I rarely play any musical instrument but now I love to play the instruments . Thank you very much

i played acoustic guitar for 2 years now. I have used apps that tune instruments (guitar) and my music teacher told me that the strings were so stretched that one blow could break it. Be careful when you are tuning your ukulele. I love your enthusiasm for learning !

Also, the more you play, the more your strumming finger will get used to it. Mine used to always get cut and blistered, you’ll get used to it 😂😂x

  • @elenafiderio9344
    @elenafiderio9344 4 ปีที่แล้ว

A tip for the strumming is to constantly be moving your hand up and down but to only strum on the pattern if that makes sense so in between your hand will move but you’ll just be kinda air strumming so no sound comes out
