My tips for learning Ukulele are... 1) find a song to practice; I found that at the beginning, I enjoyed learning chords and progressions but that I soon got bored with just knowing chords. So find one of your favorite songs, and there are plenty of songs that use super simple chords. Even knowing one song can help you get motivated to practice everyday. 2) Practice everyday; EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. It can be for five minutes, it can be for an hour. But if you practice every single day soon it becomes a habit. Right now, I find myself picking up the ukulele at completely random times, I'll even crave playing it at random times. And finally. 3) Have fun with it; Don't force yourself to practice if you're not feeling it. If you dread playing the ukulele, then you won't want to continue learning it. And that reaches the end of this comment. Congratulations if you've made it this far. You're a dedicated reader, and I commend you. Happy playing!
To be honest, I just started playing it yesterday, and I find it so fun. I can already play the basics of Riptide on beat after a few minutes of warmup and practice! I still need to learn how to strum correctly, but I love it
ShoshiTrains Thank you, I started yesterday and I practiced for about two and a half hours 😂 and this morning I just picked up my Ukelele and started playing. I love to play it and I hope soon I will progress and get better!

Honestly, people say "learning the ukulele is easy"but it all comes with practice and I think that this video will really open people's eyes that without the motivation and time and practice, learning the ukulele could take years.I started learning in December last year and now I think that I have improved massively because the amount of times I practiced and the hours I practiced.Sure,it might be difficult to find that small spark of motivation to pick up your ukulele and try playing but in the end it's truly rewarding to learn a new song or maybe even a chord that was really difficult at first. If you are a beginner reading this, don't give up,keep practicing and keep trying because nobody can magically be amazing at something, learn songs you truly enjoy and that aren't too difficult and progress from there.
I’m getting a ukulele tomorrow, and this video really helped me. You are the reason I’m getting a ukulele. I’m going to watch many of your videos to guide me. Thank you so much ♥️♥️
So I was talking to my parents about me wanting to play the ukulele and yesterday my dad (who was very happy that I picked up his guitar to learn to play it) said he wanted to buy a ukulelee and tomorrow we're going to a music shop to look for one so I'm really happy and I am definitely going to use your advices💕
Congrats on 200K, Elise! And such great advice - I completely agree about practicing and how it can be a bit more difficult to start up again after stopping for several days. Consistency is never easy, but always worth it! :)
I think you are a wonderful person and role model. I have 25+ years of experience working as a secondary teacher and see the best and worst behaviors among my variety of students. You are positive, supportive, uplifting and encouraging without setting impossible expectations. I appreciate your ukulele videos since I also play, but your channel is so much more than just a music lesson. I appreciate your outlook on life. Just thought I would share the kindness.
this is really good elise !! the minute i picked up my ukulele i realized i was left handed, so i had to switch the strings and luckily on my first try i was connected to it and i could actually do it right away !! to everyone else tryin’ it out; good luck !! i love you all and i believe in you :>

Now I bought my first ukulele to just do something different and learn something new. I already learned two songs in the last two days and it brings me so much joy to play it and listen to the happy sound of the ukulele. Thank you for your videos, they are great. Easy to follow and a have wide variety of songs. The best advise I can give for learning a new instrument when you are extremely busy and have little time is to just play a few minutes between different tasks. To play parts of songs I struggle at 5 minutes in my study breaks really improves my playing. Hopefully helpful to some ☺️
I’m on my second month learing uke , and i never went through a situation where i lost motivation , i grab my uke everyday to play , even when my finger hurt , i still play . After i bought my uke I learned party favor-billie eilish right away.. took me 2 days to play the whole song but a week or so to master that 1 song , of course everyone is different about the progression, there still a lot of chord I can’t play yet :) but it’s really fun and i don’t regret buying a uke , sorry bad english just wanted to say no not give up !
Hey, I’m 67 and if I can learn, so can you! Been playing for 3 months and can play at least 4 songs comfortably. I practice every day for 20-30 minutes. I LOVE IT! So will you, don’t give up!

thank you for the advice skshkjbmnn i practice playing my uke every day, for as long as i feel i should. some days it’s fifteen minutes, others it can be up to about an hour and a half. it depends on my schedule and motivation that day. i love playing my uke, i love hearing the music, and it’s become a huge part of my life. i constantly watch your videos, and honestly, i love them. playing the uke is one of my favorite things to do. it’s a way of relieving stress and anxiety, which is great. thank you so much for all the great advice. i’ll keep it all in mind. trying to play new chords scares me. i usually try transposing the chords or finding an easier version of the song rather than trying to stretch my fingers into crazy positions. but i try to practice those as well.
I started playing ukulele 2 months ago, and wow thank you so much for everything, your advices, your covers, tutorials, your happiness and basically everything :)) You help and motivate me so much playing, I play every single days, at first I was doing 2 hours but now I usually go for one cause I have my exams to work on and stuff (fascinating ikr) and yeah at first my fingers were hurting but now I don't feel any pain anymore which is really cool. I record myself at least once a week and just in that short amount of time I (and my family) can clearly see the progress, they're all really surprised because they though I would give up really quickly but I didn't and litteraly fell in love with this instrument, thank you again Elise :) Love from France
I got a ukulele 7+ years ago when I was pretty little along with a little book to try to learn. Eventually, I kinda lost interest/got frustrated, and stopped playing. I picked it back up a few days ago, partly because I saw one of your videos, and now I'm using youtube to start back up. I’ve also been playing piano for the past few years with an actual teacher and going to several events a year. The point is, even though this is years old, I appreciate the reminder to just have fun.
One thing that stops me from becoming better in playing guitar and ukulele is the lack of "appropriate" pieces, but that also challenge me... I play the piano, guitar and ukulele a lot. With the piano it never was a problem because I know to read sheet music on it, and since you can play pretty much anything on a piano, I always found tons of free sheets and played songs and soundtracks I liked. They caught me and challenged me and I needed time to master them perfectly some day. That's not changed a lot since the 7 years I play. With guitar and Ukulele though, well I've learned my chords and changing fastly and strumming, I play a few riffs.. though I cant change quickly to bar chords yet. It becomes boring and dull for me though. I play, but I don't learn anything, cause I see the chords and can just play them from the paper, if they ain't too hard. I guess I'd like to get a little bit more into finger picking (not classical though but idk how the other stuff is called really) and more interesting and difficult things, but on youtube 90% of tutorials are just soo easy like just C-G-a-F and stuff, or they're way too hard. Then, tabs are harder to find than sheets and they're rarely for free. And even if I knew playing sheets - you can't just play anything on a guitar/uke. I'd love to have more tutorials on slightly more complex stuff, like the mii theme, or like "mixed" performances that have fingerpicking, strumming, maybe some percussion with your hands, if you know any of that ^^ "I see fire" and "Let her go" are good examples for a catchy fingerpicking intro and phrases in between.
Hi, I know I'm 2 years late, but I think you would like channels like Let's Play Guitar and Fingerstyle Club. They really helped to to get into more advanced guitar playing.
I am getting my uke in the mail TOMORROW.. been watching before I even got interested. Didn’t really know what you were ever talking about but I loved your style. I have been binge watching your videos all week... so excited... thank you Elise!!! ❤️
You are the reason why I started ukelele Before I hated any kind of guitar or uke but then I discovered you and now I love it sooo much that I love it more than piano. AND I LOVE PIANO
well my inspiration is you i dont own a uke anymore but ima get one because i came back to your channel a week ago and you once again inspired me to play so i thank you for this video and i also wish i had someone like you that played drums because i did start to dread playing them and whenever my mom told me to practice i would get defensive but now if i feel like that with ukelele i can come to youir channel and be inspired agian and again thank you for being awesome and keep being awesome. :)
I got my ukelele on Christmas and started practicing everyday in January, it didn't feel like an obligation because I really liked it. I remember how at first I only used single strums and I struggled in the G, but in some point in my second month I was already using strumming patterns and singing at the same time, now I'm working in bar chords though I get some of them like B and Bb. I really think you are the one who inspired me to practice (is it practise) and be patient and had faith in me, so thank you. I'm really glad I found your Girls/Girls/Boys guitar tutorial long time ago and stayed.
For all of you strolling through the comments that are new to the ukulele. You should start with the four chords C Am F and G. And make sure you don't ever give up on the G chord, it's hard transitioning to it. But don't give up!!!! G is now one of my favorite chords to play! Elise already said to have fun and not stress out and to keep trying. But she's RIGHT!!!!! (that wasn't mean, it was exited) I have hope for all you ukulele player! (Elise you are amazing too
i’ve been playing cello for three years about, so when i started playing ukulele at the beginning of fall i already had calluses, and watching a shit ton of ukulele videos in advance helped me to get a good understanding of how to play ukulele in general (and obviously still watched ukulele videos to get more understanding) however i have been struggling to find the time, i already have to practice cello for 30mins a day, and i have very limited screen time so when i do get screens i want to make the most of it and i also have a very early bedtime, but i’ve been practicing as much as possible!!!! :) thank u for this video elise!
You are my inspiration I’m getting a ukulele TOMORROW I’m so excited and nervous U make me wanna learn because you are amazing I’ve watched your older videos and newer videos you have made a great improvement YOU inspire me
Very good advice. I would also add that a lot of musisians don't seem to have any sort of ear training. In other words, if they lose their tunner, they can't tune the instrument. Also if something is adjusted wrong or defective on the instrument thats making it play out of tune, all the tuning devises in the world aren't going to make it play in tune. I learned to use one tuning fork years ago to tune my guitar. I can also tune it without one. I can even do intonation on an electic guitar. This came through practicing tuning. In the beginning you will probably rely a little still on your tuner and that's ok, but after a while you should be able to to tell if the string is not only sharp or flat, but by how much, ( a little sharp or a lot, s little flat or a lot).
I’ve been playing since November and I can say that I have practiced basically every single day and it’s paid off for sure! I’ve fallen in love with playing and I’ve been watching your videos since the beginning and it’s amazing how far I’ve come. Thank you so much I love you 🙌❤️❤️❤️
You were my inspiration for playing the ukulele. Its getting delivered on the 7th. It's a starter because Ive never played before. It's just to see how much I'll like it. I love watching your videos. Thank you for making them💕
THANK YOU SO MUCH! My mother got a Soprano Ukulele for me and it’s coming the 24th and I’m super excited however I was nervous because I’ve never even TOUCHED one before... so I needed this THANK YOU!
Around the 8 and half minute mark you gave a piece of advice that I was already following. When I started (like 2 or so weeks ago) I was very lucky to have found a weird niche of ukulele tutorials for nirvana songs before my uke arrived. There's a lot of good ones I love that you can't find, but there's also a few good tutorials of classics. So when it arrived I went straight away to trying to learn songs I love. I've since found out that a few aren't as simplistic as some recommended beginner songs but I kinda don't care because the struggle is worth it.
That moment when you realize that Elise doesn't have 1 million subscribers but you assumed she did because her content quality is 👌. Congratulations on 200K subscribers! You've earned it.
I just got one so far your the only one I can find to show me how to play it mines not a great one but it's a new challenge I played guitar for years your a big help
I remember that whenever there's a new strumming pattern for me to learn I practice it a LOT, I used to watch tv holding my uke muted and strumming it to learn, and it helps a lot
I'm learning to play the bass guitar, I don't feel practice as practice, it's more like playing a video game. I enjoy it so much that time just flies by and I have to keep track of how long I've been playing otherwise I'll go to bed at dawn. If you enjoy something so much that time just flies by you don't even have to think about practicing every day, it will come naturally, you will crave it, hard!! You will crave it so much you won't be able to wait too long before you pick up your instrument and try that hard-to-play song again just for the challenge and satisfaction of finally being able to get it right!! It also helps me a lot that there's a video game for the Xbox 360 called Rocksmith 2014, it's mostly for guitar but almost all the songs have bass too and that makes it a lot easier to play because it repeats the riffs over and over and it bumps up the difficulty automatically as your skill level increases, it's awesome!!! It's tragic they didn't make it for newer versions of the platform, I would be all over the new versions if they were available!! I visit our girl friend often and when we go visit, I spend no less than two hours playing, she plays the guitar and it's always so much fun!!! I love all your advice Elise, it's useful for any instrument. I'm glad you never listen to the haters of your channel, you're an awesome girl and I love your channel!!
This was very useful :D I have had my ukulele for almost 1 month and you have helped me a lot with it. Thanks to you I’ve learnt a lot of songs and tips
I started playing the uke this summer. It was definitely painful at first. But now I'm about to get my 2nd uke. Dedication is definitely important. I'm still not very great at it but it is so much fun! I love it! Grace VanderWaal was the one who inspired me to play. I had already wanted to play a little bit before her but once she came along I knew I HAD to play it! ❤❤❤
Thank you for this video Elise! I bought a cheap ukulele for Christmas and I fell in love immediately! I went out and bought a proper concert ukulele and I’m practicing 30 minutes a day including music theory and history of the instrument. My reasons were for personal and professional development and creative therapy. My next step is to join or find a ukulele club near my area. The last one will be to perform in 2 years at a public event. But In the meantime, I’d love to just perform in front of my preschool students! This video was so encouraging! 💕🌺🎵
I just got a Luna ukulele today!! I have been playing non-stop I'm so excited to improve. I found your channel a couple days ago and have been inspired to play the ukulele! :)
because of you i bought a ukulele today! you're sooooo inspiring! (i play piano and acoustic guitar, and i'm gonna learn myself uke! but not alone, i'm going to practice with my best friend) thank you for being sooo inspiring!
I just got a ukulele yesterday, I have played it alllllll day today. My fingers are killing me and when I saw your uke it just made them hurt more😂😂😂 I am loving it though, and I was inspired by you. Love you Elise!
Thanks for these great tips. I'm 72 and have never played an instrument (since piano lessons in grade school). I wanted to learn a small instrument I could take with me on a plane, a walk to the beach, in the park, on my deck, etc. I'm five weeks in. I do practice every day. And am trying more difficult pieces that take more practice time. Re: Pain, The past week I have pain in my wrist and fingers. The tips of my fingers are ok. Like you say, I think it will go away in a few days. Thanks for your tutorials.
Love this! the video of Eden learning was super helpful for me while I was waiting for my ukulele to come in the mail. I knew to expect the discomfort and the feeling like your fingers don't fit. 😅 That was good for me.
In few days, I'm getting my first ukulele and you helped me a lot in knowing what stuff I need for it and all the basic stuff to know before buying one. Also, I already have a playlists full of your tutorials for when I will get my baby, thank you ;)
I’ve just started and your advice that I’ve been following have been helping me so much! I also have a lot of time, hopefully I get better but I have noticed a change on my playing.
I love your channel, i've always wanted to play Ukelele and I watched your tutorials and that made me really want to play the Ukelele, thank you so much I know you can help me along the journey!
I got a uke awhile ago but never really got into it tho I always wanted to. But I started practicing everyday and following you tips and now I have my first concert tomorrow
agree!! ive been playing for 4 months and im already starting to tackle barre chords. i used to get frustrated because my chords would always buzz but now i rarely do. i practice each night before bed for a few minutes :)

I think you need to find songs that you enjoy and play them. That's going to give you the most joy. And also what are "appropriate pieces"?
Hi, I know I'm 2 years late, but I think you would like channels like Let's Play Guitar and Fingerstyle Club. They really helped to to get into more advanced guitar playing.
I am getting my uke in the mail TOMORROW.. been watching before I even got interested. Didn’t really know what you were ever talking about but I loved your style. I have been binge watching your videos all week... so excited... thank you Elise!!! ❤️
You are the reason why I started ukelele
Before I hated any kind of guitar or uke but then I discovered you and now I love it sooo much that I love it more than piano.
She is so humble about her amazing talent she is the best ukulele player I have ever seen
In the beginning you will probably rely a little still on your tuner and that's ok, but after a while you should be able to to tell if the string is not only sharp or flat, but by how much, ( a little sharp or a lot, s little flat or a lot).
this feels like a cozy pep talk with a friend
Ur so full of sunshine and talent
I’ve been playing the uke for a good 10 months, but I’m still watching this bc I love Elise
I am super excited right now because I decided to get a ukulele and have been bingewatching your videos!
I’m getting a uke for Christmas! I’m actually so excited, you are the reason I wanted one in the beginning! ❤️
That moment when you realize that Elise doesn't have 1 million subscribers but you assumed she did because her content quality is 👌. Congratulations on 200K subscribers! You've earned it.

I remember that whenever there's a new strumming pattern for me to learn I practice it a LOT, I used to watch tv holding my uke muted and strumming it to learn, and it helps a lot

Congrats on 200k you deserved it
Thank you so much!!:)
yess thank you for advices! i started ukulele for 15 days and it's so cool!
Thank you so much! This is exactly what I needed!
I'm getting a ukulele for Christmas I'm so exited and your videos are so helpful ♥

Bro ukulele is my comfort hobby. As soon as I got it, I was in love. It hurt but god it has released a lot of stress for me
Well, I can't say I wasn't peer pressured to stop learning Riptide, but I'm glad you reminded me to have fun.
"Go listen to an artist that inspires you" *watches your videos*😂

6:16: or you can listen to I suffer more by Elise Ecklund on Spotify
This was the best video you could have uploaded, I just got my first ukulele last night. I’m super excited! ❤️
That's awesome!! I'm so excited for you!!:)
I want to play the ukulele after Tyler from Twenty Øne Pilots, and you. I really like how the ukulele sounds and stuff. I’m saving up for one now! :)
In few days, I'm getting my first ukulele and you helped me a lot in knowing what stuff I need for it and all the basic stuff to know before buying one. Also, I already have a playlists full of your tutorials for when I will get my baby, thank you ;)
I never knew that the strings hurt on ukulele. thanks Elise, your advice was great for me! 😊
I’ve just started and your advice that I’ve been following have been helping me so much! I also have a lot of time, hopefully I get better but I have noticed a change on my playing.
I'll be learning ukulele soon and thanks for the advice
