- A chat with Bud Wells, the founder of Bud's Gun shop. Bud sold the business a few years ago, but he's had an interesting life in the gun business, starting Bud's from scratch and building it to what it is today. Bud is not in good health, so we were glad he was willing to cross the border into Tennessee in order to chat with us! :-)

What a nice man, grateful, humble, everything a man should be. I feel like the USA has many men like this and then the media makes everyone look evil and greedy. This guy is the USA.
Thats quite true, the media is causing all the tension, stress, division, anger and fear in this country...Trump is correct when he says the media is the enemy of the people, because they quite literally are, look at where you see all this tension, negativity and division and anger nowadays....through the media outlets (with exception to FOX news in some cases)

I've always thought of Hickok as an eccentric. I think he would have been unbelievable in sales especially for something he's passionate about. I've always thought that he might also be one to design a great gun--or not; a special type of skill like engineers possess is also required but he does know a ton about guns.

hickok45, I'm glad that you did this interview with Bud Wells. I've been a customer of Bud's Gun shop since the early 90's, shopping in 4 different locations, Lexington to Paris back to Lexington and then to current location. Listening to his stories about starting his business and moving it around, building it up was great. It brought back some fond memories of some of my favorite purchases and shooting at both ranges. Thanks again for what you do and keep up the great work.
I am a new enthusisit to the sport, I love this channel! This interview was awesome! Hearing the stories and challenges from the past and Buds humility sure pushes my desire to learn all I can. It is so good to see Bud again after many years. He was the hardest working guy in the business back in the 80s when I bought a lot of guns from him and Ernie - he worked hard to earn and keep your business - and a great guy too.

I've bought a number of guns from Buds including my current favorite, a Rossi r92 .357/.38 clone of a Winchester 1892 lever gun... which I bought in the heart of the pandemic and still got a wonderful deal on it. (As I live 1 mile from the Pacific Ocean, it's in lovely stainless steel.)
And, of course, Greg, I've watched countless of your videos and enjoyed every second of them absolutely including this one. An opportunity to sit and watch two iconic gun guys talking about guns is something I could drop anything, any time, to enjoy.
As I recently watched you and my friend Charlie ride around in his car, twice skunked from buying ice cream during a Nashville snowstorm, I look forward to the opportunity to buy you an ice-cream someday, Greg! Cheers from the People's Republik of Kalifornia, gentlemen.

Lord what I would give to meet hickok45...I think I would make it 2 minutes before i burst into tears. This is what I would have imagined my father like in his golden years except I can no longer drive over to his house to show him my new gun purchase.

great video. was inspiring to hear a couple of good stories from someone who was in the gun industry for so long. this is why i love guns. you can get out there and meet some great people and learn so much from one another.
Good stuff thank you brings back some great memories. I remember when the salesman for the distributor would come by the store to sell you Hoppes, brushes reloading components guns or whatever you needed and write the order on a piece of paper! He would make his rounds once a week!
Very enjoyable to watch. Wish Bud was still in business cause he’s the type of guy you’d want to do business with. God old boy that honest!
Customer service goes an awful long way. After watching this video, I checked my Buds order history and shockingly I've spent over $30,000.00 at Buds since 2014. Much of that is because I watch too many Hickok 45 videos. Thank you Hickok for making this video.

I haven't been in the hobby anywhere near as long as these two gentlemen, but I have wound up
getting most of my guns from Bud's, usually at their retail store in Sevierville.
As Bud says, the folks there just plain seem to take care of customers properly there and I feel
totally at home the moment I walk through the door - and I've met Hickok and John in person there
as well (when I bought my PPQ after Hickok did his video on it).

That's Great he does these videos. Just ordered my first gun from Buds very easy process. They had my favorite ffl in the system too.
I have no doubt there were and are many great shooters from Tennessee and Kentucky, my uncle told me of the WW2 pilots, he was in the air corp, many of the best fighter pilots were the men that had grown up shooting birds on the fly. One of the all time greats, Joe Foss, credited some of his success from his experience shooting pheasants in South Dakota. Thanks for this wonderful interview.
