I watched this in awe. He was a genius that did something that never existed on the planet. If he hadn't created this form how long was it going to be before someone invented? Maybe never.
@Matt man every word Flash says in this is absolutely true. no one can debate it, and no one really even tries. what dude did did not exist before he did it. he invented it. period.
I.Q. is not measured by bits of information or how many books you've read. Instead, it is measured by a person's reasoning ability. GM Flash is a Thinker, Scientist, Electrician, and Innovator! As kids, We watched Grand Master Flash growing up in the Boogie Down Bronx. He, Dj Kool Herc, Dj Afrika Bambaataa started an artform-culture that would influence and rock the world!
Thank you Flash for pioneering what to do with my love of music. I can relate to your story I was attracted to the turntable as a toddler. Actually I broke my father's Gerrard turntable which then became my favorite toy. He then taught me how to play records after my mother convinced him this was cheaper than buying new records and turntables. The rest is history. Never mess with a Bajan man's records lol
Thank you sooooo much for sharing your wisdom and knowledge of this amazing craft. I loved every minute of this video and it is TRULY appreciated. Music is life.
Einstein ain't got shit on my Brother. I grew up in Brooklyn, Maboya, Kit in da Cofin, I was 12 years old and these Brothers were rocking in da parks. Thank you Flash❤♠️
When he was trying to come up with all of the names of the turntables we used back then I thought how did he forget Technics??? Hahaha...well there was also Toshiba but Technics was the one to have. As for the buffer between the record and turntable we used felt. We used grey so that you grabbed the record and not the felt.
He did not invent the scratch. The scratch was invented by Johnny D in Vietnam during the war. He was a dj who had a live radio show and to prevent the bomb dropping vibrations from skipping the records he would hold the record downing scratch to prevent skipping.
Hahahahahahaha. Even when he took off his headphone at the end (19:05) he is switching the monitor fader from one turntable to the other during his backspins. This makes absolutely no sense. It's in his blood
Damn, I’m absolutely blown away by this guy. This video should be mandatory viewing for all aspiring DJs!
Word!
Barbados in the House for years, even in Reggae (Jackie Opel, Channel One).
