Great job on the vid and step by step process. I watched your vid a few times, ordered my swivel base, and about a half hour of work once the swivel arrived and it was done. Excellent tutorial on the installation of the swivel especially on using tape on the holes and the airbag wires.I called around and was given different time lines from suppliers and that’s suppliers in the US ,as here in Canada no luck. As I’m here in Canada and it’s - 30 degrees centigrade I didn’t worry about the time line and was maybe hopefully expecting it in May, June . With that being said I ordered in mid January received it in 3 weeks . While reading the comments I believe someone asked if it works with the arm rest it will but with a tight fit
Thank you for this tutorial!! I couldn't imagine how it would swivel because of it striking the side trim, but now it makes sense that you have to push the seat all the way forward first. I was holding off on buying the swivel because I didn't want to risk getting stuck with useless hardware, but now I know it will work... thanks again!!! 😊
And thank you for the comment! Yeah, every swivel I've installed requires the seat to be moved forward to initiate the turn and then again to be in "relax" mode while you are hanging out. It's worth it though to have that seat, a real game changer.
Been eyeing this swivel bracket, most demos are not as clean as the way u did it specially with keeping sensor cable. Great Job, will buy it thru the link u provided
Glad this helped. It was before the pandemic that I ordered from them and I know the lead times on swivel seats have been affected. Check with them before placing the order, it may take awhile to get it.
I ended up going to the salvage yard and getting factory ones. As I have electric seat.. As the factory ones allow the seat to rotate using the same wiring harness and motors..As mine had 4 servo motors to control the driver seat...They said I could have the seat with base for $50.00 each..
Well done! Glad you were able to figure it out. We have an upcoming Econoline build that currently has the electric seats and we need to do similar to you.
Good tutorial. I have a 2007 extended E350 and ran into a serious issue. On my model there is a yaw sensor (small metal box that wire connects to) right under the seat. I bought the exact same swivel base as one in this video but since it is flat the sensor cannot stay there and I had to move it, thus it was loose but still plugged in. Long story short, it played havoc with the traction control system for a number of months, sending off alarms and service lights, at one point causing the ABS system to randomly engage brakes on one side of the van while driving and causing brakes to lock and dangerously veer to one side because the system was picking up a false perception of rolling and it tries to correct this. It took me a lot of digging to figure out the issue. Those sensors are highly sensitive to position and evidently MUST be left in factory position. I’m not sure what others have done with this issue but there seems to be little info out there about this specific issue. I either have to replace the factory base or figure out a different swivel base that will allow the sensor to stay in place. I’m not yet sure what will happen if I just leave it unconnected…
Thanks for the info. I haven't come across that sensor before so unfortunately can't help you with a troubleshoot or modification. We just installed swivels on a '13 E350 and it did not have that sensor. Could the sensor be bolted/adhered to the underside of the mounting plate?
Thanks for the feedback. I think it's important to have as solid of connection as possible to the floor. By leaving any of the mat or insulation in there could allow for the base to have some movement over time and thus potential failure.
Near as I can tell, taking that rubber floor and sound insulation out is a mistake. The rubber mat protects the steel floor from spills (Rust). And the insulation is there to contain warmth or cooling inside the van and dampen road noise.
In my opinion there shouldn't be rubber and insulation between the steel plate and the floor. A seat base needs to be as tight to the floor as possible.
I'd have to double check but pretty sure the base is molded to make contact at the bolt locations and then clear the floor coverings, thus no bushings/pads to reuse. Could be a possibility but I thing having the base affixed flat to the floor is a stronger and safer option.
Pretty sure there is a swivel seat for the driver side as well and the process would be the same. Only issue I can foresee is that the driver seat wouldn't be able to move around or recline as much due to the steering wheel.
The swivel base used in this video wouldn't work in a '71 and I don't have a solution for you off the top of my head. Sorry!! If you are in Eugene, OR swing by and we can take a look.
Awesome! Stoked you are getting a build going!! Are you doing some weatherstripping in addition to the factory stuff or needing to replace the original?
I work on Fords all the time... I suggest you buy the Factory Motorcraft weather striping... As it just snaps right back in and preformed. It will last 20 more years. Just spray silicone on them once a year. I might add. Econolines come factory wired to install 2x Group 31 batteries under the passenger side entrance. To the frame... If you need the OEM part number for the harness kit needed to complete. Let me know.. As it's a quick way to add aux batteries....The kit includes the huge ass schematic to install them..
Is there a name or model number for the swivel seat you used? I am planning to put one in my 2001 Ford E150 and am worried about getting the wrong one. Thanks, and great video!
Thanks for the video, easy to follow, just wondering what base did do you install, went to the website but was not sure which one you used. I have a 2001 ford econoline 150 e van
I just got 2005 Toyota Sienna, but I can’t find a swivel conversion for it..Would this one work? I loved the step by step videos you share!!! Thanks I n advance if you can help guide me. Do they even make one?
Thanks for the positive vibes Joan! Pretty sure you will need a swivel base that is specific to your van as it either needs to replace the seat base or interface between the factory base and factory seat. I don't know of any available for your van however. Sorry!
I just looked and see what you are saying. I wasn't aware of a change in the bases for the econolines. Shop4Seats makes those to order (few months lead time at this point) so you may give them a call and see what the say or if they can send you some dimensions to cross reference from.
The transit swivel doesn't replace the entire base, it goes between the base and the seat. Still a simple modification though and quite straight forward.
Would I be able to attach any seat to this base, honda, gmc, Toyota etc. (are they universal )? Or would I have to make sure that the seat itself is a Ford e series from the same year
The seat base as shown is for the factory seat. I think there is a swivel base at shop4seats for non-OEM seats but you would still have to make modifications. The main thing here is that the factory Ford seat doesn't have a bottom that is parallel to the floor so the base is a wedge shape.
Thanks for the info. I'm thinking the link changed since publishing the video and I've updated the link in the description to be for the general www.shop4seats.com website instead of specifically to the seat base. They have both, one for aftermarket seats and one for the original Ford seats. Sorry for the glitch and hope this helps!
