Pick up some washers and stack them under the plate to fill the gap to the floor rather than tightening them to the point of bending the lower plate. You'll have less stress on the bolts and a more solid install. Typically when a van conversion company installs swiveling captains chairs they first weld a plate or mounts to the floor to make it level.
@@bradseward8342 The issue is the ribs of the floor(formed into it to increase rigidity like the core of corrugated cardboard). The original seat base dropped down between the raised sections(see the indents at 3:25) where as the swivel base is completely flat. Whether the rubber liner was above or below the seat base would have only made a marginal difference. The new base can compress the rubber and sound deadener underneath it, but either the steel floor or the steel base has to give for the two to meet.
It helps so much to actually see someone install something from start to finish like that. I’m not that handy but I’m totally convinced I could handle it. Thanks so much for filming it for us. You’re wrong, it was really exciting and we are excited for you! Love how you appreciate every step in the building/upgrading of your home!
Super stoked about your seat! Hey just a thought.. what if you get a storage ottoman with the lid to put your poo bucket in. I have one and they are super sturdy. I got mine on Amazon. If you put a board on the inside you could install wheels on the bottom of the ottoman..it would be multi functional. Poo bucket, foot rest and seating..you could sit on it and roll around your van. If the bucket is too tall just find a bucket that would fit inside the ottoman. It would be hidden out of site. Also, would be taller with wheels. 👍 Just an idea lol 💡
I puchased a fancy fold down ottomon 19$ , as a seat will hold 100kg.. only put my shoes in it and use it for a foot rest. But it would be perfect for dunny.
Barb A Im sure it will work. Mine is a fold down as well. I currently have my shoes in mine and use it as a foot rest too😊I’m well over 100kg and I sit on mine all the time. They are really sturdy for thick card board. I mentioned putting a board inside to attach wheels to the bottom. That might make it hold up even better.
I've been trying to talk myself into one of these. But in my previous van I put one in. With my current van I just turned the seat around and bolted it down. Saved a bunch of money, and rarely think it would be nice to turn it around. And if I do need to turn it around, it's a 5 minute job. More hassle yes, but about 300 bucks in my pocket.
Ripp Snortin, Bought used swivels, holes didn't match. Three people attempted it. Problem was they were middle passenger seat swivels. My front bolts are 11". Back bolts 9:. Tool and die man said he could weld pieces on the 9" side. He was doing it as a favor and I felt it would be too much work. Did your reverse bolts match?
The swivel seat will be a comfortable game changer. Better than a recliner. Smoking hot of 115 here in Phoenix. Go weirdos had swivel seats in my class A and expands living space seating. I'd do the divers seat also.
I know Im randomly asking but does any of you know of a tool to log back into an Instagram account..? I stupidly lost my account password. I love any help you can offer me
@Theodore Silas I really appreciate your reply. I got to the site through google and im waiting for the hacking stuff now. Seems to take quite some time so I will reply here later with my results.
Chrome, when I was struggling to pick a floor material, you convinced me to go with a roll-out! I stood in Home Depot trying to pick the best style for me for quite a while... watching this video, I realized I picked the same one as you! Floor bro’s! Thank you!
Chrome 2 things.....1. Replace your engine cover console it's cracked....2 get you a cordless rachet got to lowes or home depot get a Milwaukee ratchet and it make things easier for you in most cases....I did.
Sweet.....fantastic idea to reclaim and multipurpose that passenger seat!! Now don't forget to check into a "Winch", you know...just in case kinda thang.
get a nice woven rattan round hamper basket, that the bucket fits inside and has a flat lid with a rim that fits over and meets the bottom when it's closed up. then it looks nice and is easy to remove and clean, and fits your decor.
Dude I’d need a torch, and two men and a mule to break the the bolts on my crusty old ford 150. Now you can take the old mount and bolt it to your roof for extra passengers. 🤣☮️❤️😎
Great job.. I just love your dog .. if been watching you for a short Tim now ... if watch you get your fur baby till now. I just realize he has his own channel, thanks I can't get enough of him ... so cute he is ... like watching you and van life. Beautiful. The places I see thew you thanks I'm from ohio...in USA. I'll keep in touch. Keep smile in..lol friends.
If I had the cash, I'd get a Sportsmobile Van. They are super cool. I have spent much time on their website....thanks for the install video. Now that I have the Chevy Express instead of the minivan. It is on my "want" list to have a swivel. I honestly didn't see the point in the minivan.
I was going to mention at an earlier time - why don't you just get a simple, comfy office chair to add to your ample floor space. But your way works too. An office chair would probably cost a lot less. Have a great day Chrome.
hi im new. old lady in calif. living the van life through youtube wishing i could. i watch as many as i can of the you tube van/rver's. cool seat. better get rehydrated with some water. then relax with a cool beer. i cant drink no more so enjoy one for me.
Did the same thing on my E350 a month ago, looks like the same base. Had the same experience, fit and works perfectly! Nice to have a useable extra seat!
Time to do another Video Tour of your van with all of the beautiful and practical upgrades that you have done in the past year or so. It’s one of the nicest cargo van interiors I’ve ever seen on TH-cam. Great job Chrome.
I'm planning on adding a small storage box with a padded hinged top. It's a bit more storage for smalls, foot rest for the swivel seat, additional stool for company, and it can be an outside seat as well. Something milk crate size would be ideal I think.
Kris Kjellquist I have one of those that I have put a memory foam cushion on top of, using for my home office chair ... it will be coming in my van with me. It’s like a hard plastic patio storage box that I found for free by the side of the road, cleaned and painted it!
Hello Chrome, I have just purchased a 2000 Ford E350 that I am about to start building. Your van has been a huge inspiration for my build. I look forward to following your adventures as I have been from day on.
Awesome , in vanlife something that seems so simple to some people who've never done it ARE SO EXCITING TO A VANLIFE PERSON🤗 hope that made sense , anyway congrats🤗👊👊👊 they have that awesome shelf line paper you can use on the old pooper bucket, its sturdy to, the have marble, every kind of wood color etc, just a suggestion, wont cost ya but 6 bucks at Walmart
😳 Chrome just installed himself a new to him & Cruzie Bear... lay-z-boy!! 🍾🥂🥳🎯 😎Can't wait to see what is next! 🤔💭🤔💭 A pull out bench from the bottom of your bed?!🤩 Congrats! Well deserved! Your home & your style! 🍺 Vie 🇨🇦
I am so happy you were able to get a swivel seat, to me it makes ALL the difference in the world for you and possible guest. To be able to sit with your feet up and the back titled back will take you to a whole new comfort spot. Thank you for sharing.
That is why I have a 3 speed big fan that tilts... when it's hot and I'm working inside or out, or even just sitting, I put the fan on high and I stay cool...
I would use flat metal pieces with the same length/height as the base. So that the nut tightens the the floor. And then as extra safety drill a new hole in the middle for a new bolt.
You were totally capable to host friends in the van already with the folding stool i got you. That was one of the reasons I sent it to you and to save your knees. ...lol...silly man.
Great video is always Chrome just got my 2004 E250 back out of the shop brand new engine. Ready to hit the road I want to put a carrier box on top. Like you did now I want a swivel for my passenger seat. Already have the box on side door that opens into a table very happy with that. Don't think 3:50 is too much for a swivel seat like you said really opens up the van. Safe travels stay cool Chrome hugs and kisses to crusie bear! He's by far my favorite TH-cam dog of all time!!
I like that idea for my van I may order one prior to when I finally get working on the new conversion in my newer van. It would make it much easier for my dad too.
That looks great and I bet it's a joy to sit in. Just one thing before you do......take the drivers seat out and clean underneath it. OK, maybe a beer first while you try this one out.
My old camper van came with a passenger swivel seat. However, I found that I had to get forceful when the arm rest prevented the seat from going 180. I ended up taking the door armrest off. Closing the door is a bit tricky but it's totally worth the aggravation when I sit myself down in that comfortable seat and prop my knees up on an ice chest.
I love watching your videos. You're really doing a great job upgrading you van. I love listening to you get so excited and happy for each new "toy" that you have had added to you your home. Keep going!! Love all of your travels this summer!!!!
So brilliant to check the old base first! I've been wanting to do this in my Ford 250E extended van - it's was a passenger van and has walkup steps behind the passenger seat. Very cool. There is a pole there. I love that too but I think I'll have to remove it in order to turn the seat. PLEASE - where did you order the base? Sportsmobile swivel base - 'not available' wherever I look. ArghhhhhH! hahahaha. Thanks for going for it and knocking it out of the park again. Hugs!
Sportsmobile also converted the old VW Busses until VW STARTED MAKING the tops that tilted instead of raising straight up so they could make them without infringing on Sportsmobile patent. They couldn’t sell imported cargo vans in the U.S. for trade laws. Yeah they’ve been around a while.
Thank you for posting this. I’ve been wanting one but always think is to expensive etc. i think you have convinced me. I love your channel. Thank you and as soon as I’m finish with my van build, i hope i get to meet you down the the road. Thanks again
Smooth move. Maybe you might want to consider a captain's chair soon, with cup holders. Retractable arms too of course, so the bear can still Cruze along on your road trips.

I thought about it when he was cutting the floor.lol
Might have to find a new place for Cruz's dishes or visitors might think they are for a pedicure.
I would rather use flat metal pieces with the same length/height as the base. And then as extra safety drill a new hole in the middle for a new bolt.
It looks to me like the thick part of the rubber bushings should have been under the new seat base... 7:50

@Theodore Silas It worked and I finally got access to my account again. I am so happy:D
Thank you so much, you saved my account !
@Gus Kian Glad I could help :D
I just used your link to purchase a Jackery 500
You have wanted one of those for quite awhile. Or at least it was on your list of future needs/wants that you put out awhile aho. Awesome Chrome.

I don’t think I have ever seen any man enjoy life as much as you do. I really love that.
Home Sweet Home! So happy to see you creating the home you want on wheels!
That seat is so nice and living area is bigger now!!
Finally a swivel... bout time Chrome!
Dude! I’ve been waiting for this day for you for some reason! Congratulations on the new addition 🙌

Some disco hair under the seat for sure👍🏼🐶
I get notification I hit play. Love the videos chrome
Time to move up to a tall Transit or Ram. You’ve proven the concept and outgrown that rig.
I would use flat metal pieces with the same length/height as the base. So that the nut tightens the the floor. And then as extra safety drill a new hole in the middle for a new bolt.
That’s awesome Chrome! Thanks for sharing where you got it and that the install isn’t too daunting ;)
Hi Chrome.
Dude Cruz.
More van rebuild.
Now a swivel seat.
❤
Well done... easy... and worth every penny
Livin' your best life with the best dog ever!
Have fun and take care and take it easy and enjoy it

thanks I've been thinking of putting in a swivel seat in my transit. Now I know I can do it (pretty much)by myself.

Thank you for the tip about Sportsmobile, we have a Ford Transit and would love a nice swivel seat.
It’s the little victories 🎈
Game changer. Look at you go!
Great job I think you're right that seat is going to come in really handy. Makes the van look bigger also. Stay Safe.

I love your channel. Thank you and as soon as I’m finish with my van build, i hope i get to meet you down the the road.
Thanks again
Grats on the swivel seat. It really does add a lot to your home.
Congrats on the swivel seat for your home!🎊🎉👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 Entertaining will be exciting, even when Danaka spends time with you!!
Glad you got your swivel seat, looks super!! Have a great day. 🤗
Thanks for sharing. I didn't know that SM would sell parts like that and the other site is a great resource!
Smooth move. Maybe you might want to consider a captain's chair soon, with cup holders. Retractable arms too of course, so the bear can still Cruze along on your road trips.
Cool swivel chair
Very interesting and spot on ...I keep wanting to have a swivel in my 2000 E350 Chinook rv. Will check with sportsmobile to see if it is the same one.
As I am in France I hope they ship overseas..
Thanks for sharing ,my dear fellow weirdo 😃
I’m so happy for you keep up the great work
Next upgrade I suggest changing that roof fan for an AC unit LOL.
Cool! Money well spent. 😎
