    At 71 I wish I could say I’ve seen it all, but I haven’t. As a child our travels were taken by car and Station wagon. We were a family with 4 kids and couldn’t afford traveling any other way. We went all over the USA taking Farm Roads when there were no highways.
    Even traveled to Central America by Van from Chicago as a Teen. The first time i flew I was 33 and only flew while working for companies throughout my Career. Just before retirement a friend from Chicago put me in touch with an RV Company in Florida which had me Literally Driving RV’s all over this Great Country of ours. Now my Choice of travel is my SUV. I admire this young man getting out of his small town to see the world. I have mad respect for his research and implementation of his ideas for his van. As an old man, I only have one small critique. In a front end medium to high speed collision, ALL of those loose items are going to become airborne and fly to the front cabin. Including that heavy piece of wood that requires the magnet. He has a good head on his shoulders and I would hate to see anything happen to it.

    Hi Jacob, god speed going the way of the Mushroom industry for sure. Im a 64 year old retired guy that is just itching to get out and live the life you do. But have a wife that is a diabetic in need of care for the most part & this puts a damper on the thing that I would love to do the most that would be travel up the coast and off to Washington DC and see Smithsonian, and all the historical sights that I can before I get to old. So what I see here is one of the best most lucrative personalized Econolines that I have ever seen! by that I mean I lived in this 1970 bubble top specked just for me, cops were never a problem because I never hid anything and kept on the up n up so they left me alone. living in it from1989 until 1999 had to part with her because of my work and other things. You sir have the coolest set up, I wish I can live the life that I used to which is number 2 on my life's bucket list. I subscribed to you and gave ya a thumbs up Dude! You have shown us all that you can speck out a van perfectly on budget with out spending a shitload of money for show and looks. be safe and stay warm, respect the cops because they can make it difficult for you if you dont show em any respect, they are human too. god speed to you my friend! Love the van mod! I think it's a great idea to have a "garage". Keeps the "house" clean. I have questions! How did you decide on the size of the inverter? How many watts is your solar panel? And why just one battery? Do you have a link to a "how-to" for the solar shower/compressor set-up? :-)

    • @jacobmarlega3187
      @jacobmarlega3187 6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      The inverter size was decided on how much power I would need at one time to use a certain item. In my case a blender. Solar panel is 100 Watts. 1 batter costed a lot of money and it was less space/weight than doing 2 AGM batteries. I don’t, but there are plenty on TH-cam, just for them.

    Amazing set up! Minimalist, so welcoming with pretty much all the essentials. Other than a poop station. I love it and you have given me so much life to bring my dream van into a reality.

    What type of panels did you get to power it? I wish I had someone to help me with this lol I have bad luck but good intentions when starting these projects. I work parttime and just want to be able to see the country on the cheap

    really nice job on the Van interior, the original was a 'travel van' , that Lithium battery and the fridge, were the (2) big expenses

    You're living the dream! Cool rig. One suggestion...perhaps you could route channels in the floor to sink/flush the rails your frig is on...that would eliminate some toe boo-boos I'd think

    • @jorasparents
      @jorasparents 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      But then dirt and debris could fill in the track and prevent smooth movement. And you'd be constantly vacuuming it out. I agree about the toe-stubbing though ... I'm a klutz, so it wouldn't work for me. But it works for him, and that's what matters.

    • @dmorean
      @dmorean 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jorasparents ya, dirt and debris would be an issue. I wonder if anyone makes a in-set-able track that would be sealed somehow

    • @jorasparents
      @jorasparents 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@dmorean Yeah, or maybe just cut some strips of plastic like from a shop light fixture cover or even thin pvc panels - something you could pop in place and take out when you want to slide the fridge.

      Ben Bigler purchased off craigslist. What just some of the parts. I had to use turnbuckles purchased at a hardware store for replacing a piece of the footing. I sanded and painted it for a fresh look.

    The solar controler should be mounted up and down not sideways as to cool itself the hot air rises from open ends also cover the + on the battery so you dont short to ground and have to spend big $ to replace or burn up your van - nice work on the rest of your build?

    You could save more space replacing the rails with simple felt pads under your fridge. It will slide wherever you want it, and you dont have rails sticking up on your floor.
