NOTLD 1990 does indeed have a reason to exist. Two, in fact: first, due to the absence of a copyright notice, the creators of the 1968 film didn’t see any money from its distribution and for similar reasons, Romero was worried another company was going to do a remake. Second, Tom Savini was originally supposed to create the special effects for the original film but was drafted into Vietnam before production started. Both issues were rectified with the remake, plus we got a sexy, badass Babs in the beautiful Patricia Tallman as a bonus.
Two 1950's classics: "The Crawling Eye" and the "Abominable Snowman" are must watch for horror fans. And back in the day, for me and my brother, "Chiller Theater," and "Creature Features" were must viewing every Sat. night!
The Giant Claw is a lot of fun. You have a giant Dr. Seuss bird from outer space attacking the planet with solid performances from Jeff Morrow and Mara Corday making the best of a ridiculous plot. 3.5 out of 5 for delightful cheese.
I heard "Vacation of Terror 2" was the hidden gem to end all hidden gems. It's mindblowingly original twist changed the medium forever. JK, I didn't hear that.
Glad you had that reaction to Breakdown. Saw it in the theater when it came out and my whole group of friends loved it. Criminally underrated. JT Walsh's character one of the all-time despicable bad guys.
The Giant Claw is my favorite monster movie of all time. The bird is ridiculous, the things Jeff Morrow says are ridiculous, and everyone plays it straight. I used to have the bird's caw as my notification sound on my phone. The movie is so bad it's great and super fun. I understand Morrow was at the screening in his hometown and he, himself, had not seen the bird. Once it showed up the audience burst into laughter and Morrow snuck out of the building. 😂❤
As my students would say, this channel is an absolute vibe. Love what you're doin. Keep it up!! I too yearn for a nice spooky werewolf film set in winter :-)
A Good honest list. Recently I have been re- watching "The Movies that scared the ____ out of me as a child. You know the ones I snuck away to watch when my parents thought I was sleeping or a sleepover at a friend's place who had scary movies that children should avoid until older....
Bought Break Down on seeing your review and have to say I really enjoyed it. It's great to find a film that really seemed to fly under the radar at the time but is a solid tense thriller.
Your videos have totally improved! I so look forward to them. Per swordplay, I used ditch high school for the Kung Fu theatres, so thanx for 'The Icemen Cometh'....
Breakdown was a good one! So lucky to have it in my collection. Wish it wasn’t unbelievably expensive now that it’s out of print because I really want more people to discover it
Saw The Boogens when it was in theaters while on a staycation from work. Watched mini doc on the making of and like a lot of horror movies budget cuts prevented creating the creatures that they wanted. Bad weather caused some delays, really enjoyed seeing it on the big screen
You do a really good job of telling the setting and beginning of a story to get us hooked on it. I agree that Breakdown is a very intense movie. However I have to say it raises by blood pressure screaming at the TV as I watch it, so it might be too intense.
Enjoying your content even though I am not all about gore horror. So happy to hear you dug Iceman Cometh! So good. Try to get Righting Wrongs. Signs is phenomenal too and scary. 🤓
Giant Claw was the first horror/monster movie I ever saw. I guess I was 7 or 8 years old when my Dad took us to the Army base theater (10 cents at the time). This cemented my love of Creature Features.
THE WEREWOLF is excellent IMO, the first and only werewolf noir, and quite unique. Gotta disagree on your take, not remotely boring and very atmospheric IMO.
The Cold War creatures box set is the same 4 movies as the Sam Katzman icons of horror collection from Sony pictures. I really like the Werewolf, and it's arguable the best of the set. The giant claw is fun 50s sci-fi schlock. Do a shot every time someone says "battleship."
Rented Breakdown when released on video and watched it two times in a row which is rare for me. Absolutely a great scary five star movie. Always thought that the makers of this movie loved and wanted to make kind of a sequel to the also great early Speilberg movie Duel
Breakdown is fantastic, I need to pick up the blu or 4k. I picked up the Bloody Judge, but haven't watched it. I seem to hate more Franco movies than I like, so I am concerned. Looking over my Letterboxd for the month of April, my top 5 were: 1- Manhunter (William Peterson thriller) 2- Pinocchio's Revenge (really cheesy, but I loved it) 3-Class of 1984 4-The Cynic, The Rat and The Fist 5-Dragon Slayer The list could go on as April was a big movie watching month for me with 43 watched.
Since you liked Breakdown, you should watch a movie called Duel directed by Steven Spielberg. It’s a 1970s semi truck thriller in the same vein as Breakdown.
You are dead-on on The Boogens. Fun little movie, I've tried to recommend it to Horror fans for years. Vis a vis The Iceman Cometh, it sounds like a remake of Time After Time (the one about H.G. Wells and Jack The Ripper coming through time to modern day and Wells meets a modern woman who acclimates him, etc...).
Oh, for some reason I thought you had and had mentioned it before. Must be confused. I really like TAT, Malcolm McDowell, Mary Steenburgen, and David Warner (Evil from Time Bandits) is wonderful as Jack The Ripper and it plays off the H.G. Wells story "The Time Machine".
I don't understand the "warm blanket" analogy. All scary movies are scary to me. Some, like Universal monsters are not so scary now, but I'd hardly equate them to a warm blanket. Is it about family unity while growing up?
I may have said this already, but just in case: Bloody Judge is one of my least favourite Jess Franco films (I have seen now 84). In April I've seen mostly Shaw Brothers movies. The best were: Intimate Confessions of a Chinese Courtesan 1972 Pursuit of Vengeance 1977 Full Moon Scimitar 1979 The Convict Killer 1980 The Enchantress 1983 And a great Taiwanese film: Tropical Fish 1995 And a very good Sogo Ishii: Mirrored Mind 2005
Definitely a fan of your top 2, especially Signs. Joaquin Phoenix and Mel Gibson are great. Even the kids acting is good. It's been a long time since I saw Breakdown, so I'll give it another watch soon. I remember being pissed that he left his wife with the trucker the first time I watched it.
Great job as always! Always a treat when I see you’ve posted a new video. Some of the movies I’ve seen recently: GodzillaXKong Abagail Curse of the Faceless Man Born Yesterday Point Blank The Roaring Twenties
Vacation of Terror II IS a hidden gem! 😂. It is SO much better than the first. Pretty much has all the best things about the best 80s horror movies. Great effects, great monster, great atmosphere (monster kills people on a horror movie set during a Halloween Party) all the best 80s cheese can be found here 🙂. And much quicker pace and lots of action.
if you love 80s movie for their atmosphere and direction, please check out "cold in july" from 2014. it stars michael c hall and don johnson. it takes place in the 80s but the best part is that it actually looks like it was filmed in the 80s. the synth score and direction is on point. the plot is: Hall kills a home invader, then finds out later that the police are covering something up. its a thriller with a crazy twist you don't see coming.
The Kate and Leopold movie was a really good romcom id forgotten about. It reminds me of the Time after Time, jack the ripper movie. Not exactly a romcom though.
x Watched Howl's Moving Castle and The Wicker Man for May Day, great Double Feature! o I realize that The Wicker Man is May Day horror, but I like May Day more simply because I saw that awesome film again! x Watched Dr. Terror's House of Horror, great film! o I really liked the premise of the Tarot Card reader giving them visions of their future. o The one about the live plant reminded me of Little Shop of Horrors (1986), the second film I watched on the day of the Total Eclipse (because Audrey II appeared on the Total Eclipse on the film). o Peter Cushing really nails the archetype of his characters in a way that they are perfect for Halloween costumes, that tarot reader is a winner! x I added Breakdown, Signs, The Iceman Cometh, and Buried Alive to my list June Watchlist. o I have seen Signs before, but I want to see it again with the perspective of Farmland terror.
I agree, "Vacaciones del Terror" is really bad (although it has cult status in its home country). Part 2 is not a masterpiece by any means, but the setting and production value are slightly better.
Vacation of Terror sounds like Annabelle. Nothing happens, lol. I LOVE the Night of the Living Dead remake. It was needed because some of those older movies make women so weak and useless. As a female, I can tell you that it is indeed unreasonable for someone who is an adult to be catatonic for hours. Especially when your own safety is in question. We needed a remake to show a strong capable woman who is much more true to real life. I recommend rewatching it with this in mind. I will sometimes sell a movie if the female character is that weak. I do like the original Night of the Living Dead. It has a great lead but the remake is so much more fun for me. The Boogens is a favorite for me. I like the characters and I really love the weird monster.
Glad you're enjoying Hong Kong movies, just beware that VS have not released a ton of HK stuff and much of what they did is not that great. (Iceman not included, that and Burning Paradise are the rare bangers) I don't know if you have an unlocked player, but UK companies like Arrow and 88 Films have done way more and way better HK movies than VS.
I would like to attest to The Giant Claw being so bad it's good as the monster has to be one of the cheesiest things I've ever seen but... I don't know what it is but there's something fun about it - it was more enjoyable than From Hell it Came with the Monster tree. As for the other two, Zombies of Mora Tau is, I think a 6/10, not horrible but kind of slow. Creature with the Atom Brain is my favourite of the bunch and I think it would be a great movie if the little girl who plays Richard Denning's daughter wasn't so damn annoying. The final fight between the bad guy and Richard Denning reminded me of the old time serials, which makes sense as Katzman's specialty was making low-budget genre films and serials. I consider the Atom Brain to be the hidden gem of the bunch and, when you get around to watching it (it's barely over an hour), I hope you'll enjoy it too. 😊
Vacation of Terror 2 is right about at the same level of part 1 not very good, saw this eons mid 90's ago on some late night horror show best I can say is it's a good cure for insomnia.
one foriegn movie about a haunted house in the woods that teens come to stay in and run around in woods was awful. SLasher movie? French maybe? SPanish? it was awful.

Was going to share this with the class 👍
It’s a decent remake but still not a patch on the original, in which nothing needed to be fixed by a remake.
I absolutely love the remake. I actually like it more than the original though I definitely have respect for the original
Two 1950's classics: "The Crawling Eye" and the "Abominable Snowman" are must watch for horror fans. And back in the day, for me and my brother, "Chiller Theater," and "Creature Features" were must viewing every Sat. night!
Both great films! ❤
The Giant Claw is a lot of fun. You have a giant Dr. Seuss bird from outer space attacking the planet with solid performances from Jeff Morrow and Mara Corday making the best of a ridiculous plot. 3.5 out of 5 for delightful cheese.
I love that movie! So much fun. Watch out for the flying battleship!
Totally agree. Kurt Russell does few duds and this one is always skipped in his “best” lists.
Thank you!
A Good honest list.
Recently I have been re- watching "The Movies that scared the ____ out of me as a child. You know the ones I snuck away to watch when my parents thought I was sleeping or a sleepover at a friend's place who had scary movies that children should avoid until older....
Nice! That’s a fun trip down memory lane.
Oh my gosh! Have been trying to remember Breakdown for at least a decade!!!! I'm definitely going to be looking for it soon. 🙂
Bought Break Down on seeing your review and have to say I really enjoyed it. It's great to find a film that really seemed to fly under the radar at the time but is a solid tense thriller.
I could not agree more with your review of Breakdown. I've been telling people about this one for YEARS! Nice choice.
I absolutely LOVED BREAKDOWN the first time I saw it. Watch it occasionally when it pops up on tv. Great reviews, as always!
The NOTLD exists so that the people who made the original could recoup some of the money that was ripped off.
Night90 is my favorite horror movie ever. I love it.
Your videos have totally improved! I so look forward to them. Per swordplay, I used ditch high school for the Kung Fu theatres, so thanx for 'The Icemen Cometh'....
Breakdown was a good one! So lucky to have it in my collection. Wish it wasn’t unbelievably expensive now that it’s out of print because I really want more people to discover it
Nice review! But I hope you can also review the British tv horror shows
Saw The Boogens when it was in theaters while on a staycation from work. Watched mini doc on the making of and like a lot of horror movies budget cuts prevented creating the creatures that they wanted. Bad weather caused some delays, really enjoyed seeing it on the big screen
This is such a great channel. Your love for films oozes out of the screen. How can you afford so many DVD’s?😳✌🏻
Thanks! And honestly, inflation is catching up to us, so I’m gonna have to slow down. lol
A+ video!
Awesome films and explatnations of them, looking forward to watching some of the films!
Thank you!!
Personally I think you struck gold with NotlD remake, the Boogens, and Breakdown.
You do a really good job of telling the setting and beginning of a story to get us hooked on it.
I agree that Breakdown is a very intense movie. However I have to say it raises by blood pressure screaming at the TV as I watch it, so it might be too intense.
Thanks very much!
I saw "Breakdown" at the cinema when it came out. "$90,000 dollars or 90,000 donuts."
New sub! I am LOVING your vids dude
Hey, thank you so much!
Enjoying your content even though I am not all about gore horror. So happy to hear you dug Iceman Cometh! So good. Try to get Righting Wrongs. Signs is phenomenal too and scary. 🤓
The Giant Claw is amazing. It is a great movie made better by one of the most memorable monsters in movie history.
Giant Claw was the first horror/monster movie I ever saw. I guess I was 7 or 8 years old when my Dad took us to the Army base theater (10 cents at the time). This cemented my love of Creature Features.
crazy coincidence - I also watched torture garde, signs and breakdown last month! Those last 2 are indeed brilliant.
Nice!
Excellent channel!
I loved Breakdown too! Great underrated movie.
On the IMDB page for The Boogens it says that they only made one creature for the movie, which may explain why you don't see very much of them...
I actually read the novelization of the Boogens. It's a lot darker, and the monsters are better than the movie. I liked it a lot more than the movie.
I’m still waiting for the village on blu ray!
Rented Breakdown when released on video and watched it two times in a row which is rare for me. Absolutely a great scary five star movie. Always thought that the makers of this movie loved and wanted to make kind of a sequel to the also great early Speilberg movie Duel

3-Class of 1984
4-The Cynic, The Rat and The Fist
5-Dragon Slayer
The list could go on as April was a big movie watching month for me with 43 watched.
Class of 1984 and Dragonslayer are awesome!
Aaaaaand Breakdown! Yes! 😂
Since you liked Breakdown, you should watch a movie called Duel directed by Steven Spielberg. It’s a 1970s semi truck thriller in the same vein as Breakdown.
A list of Stuart zombie movies:
Children shouldn’t play with dead things
I eat your skin
I drink your blood
Let’s sleeping corpses lie
You are dead-on on The Boogens. Fun little movie, I've tried to recommend it to Horror fans for years.
Vis a vis The Iceman Cometh, it sounds like a remake of Time After Time (the one about H.G. Wells and Jack The Ripper coming through time to modern day and Wells meets a modern woman who acclimates him, etc...).
I need to see Time After Time.

Signs is such a good movie. You have to see The Wolf of Snow Hollow speaking of werewolf movies.
I don't understand the "warm blanket" analogy. All scary movies are scary to me. Some, like Universal monsters are not so scary now, but I'd hardly equate them to a warm blanket. Is it about family unity while growing up?
You will love The Giant Claw so much. 😀
I may have said this already, but just in case: Bloody Judge is one of my least favourite Jess Franco films (I have seen now 84).
In April I've seen mostly Shaw Brothers movies.
The best were:
Intimate Confessions of a Chinese Courtesan 1972
Pursuit of Vengeance 1977
Full Moon Scimitar 1979
The Convict Killer 1980
The Enchantress 1983
And a great Taiwanese film:
Tropical Fish 1995
And a very good Sogo Ishii:
Mirrored Mind 2005
Shaw Brothers movies are lots of fun
Breakdown is fantastic. It’s scary, because it could happen and probably has.
I love love love SIGNS
The whole water thing is dumb but everything else is so awesome. Filled with me with DREAD
Great job as always! Always a treat when I see you’ve posted a new video.
Some of the movies I’ve seen recently:
GodzillaXKong
Abagail
Curse of the Faceless Man
Born Yesterday
Point Blank
The Roaring Twenties
Good list! I loved Abigail.
Have you seen the original version of “The Vanishing?” “Breakdown” reminded me of it, but “The Vanishing” is significantly grimmer.
"Breakdown" is a great Road Horror Movie!....But the best Road Horror Movie?....1986...Rutger Hauer in "The Hitcher."
Vacation of Terror II IS a hidden gem! 😂. It is SO much better than the first. Pretty much has all the best things about the best 80s horror movies. I'm gonna watch it tonight! Thank you I never heard of this.
The Kate and Leopold movie was a really good romcom id forgotten about. It reminds me of the Time after Time, jack the ripper movie. Not exactly a romcom though.
NOTLD 1990 is great I love a lot of the zombies so well done. It can’t beat the OG but the bent backwards zombie crawling on the front lawn is great
Stick with Col War creatures. Giant Claw is an all-time great Arrow release. It's brilliant.
Huh. I don't remember any sword fighting in the Eugene O'Neill play.
I love Breakdown!!!
Love your comments! Just wish the present horror movies could measure up to the earlier horror movies!
Sex isn't scary!!!
Check out the other “Buried Alive” with Jennifer Jason Leigh ! Pretty good!
breakdown rocks. seen it a bunch of times.
I have always enjoyed Breakdown really cool movie 👍
x Watched Howl's Moving Castle and The Wicker Man for May Day, great Double Feature!
o I realize that The Wicker Man is May Day horror, but I like May Day more simply because I saw that awesome film again!
x Watched Dr.
That is a GREAT May Day double feature!
Love the werewolf. Great characters. Cool story
i recommend malignant for retro horror 😅😅
Love Malignant!
Nah I liked Vacation of Terror (part.1). I might have been sipping on something strong while watching it though… but I liked.
Breakdown was a very good movie
I agree, "Vacaciones del Terror" is really bad (although it has cult status in its home country). Part 2 is not a masterpiece by any means, but the setting and production value are slightly better.

More retro horror recommendations! So far you hated the first two!!!!!
the stepford wives reboot ABC7CA
Vacation of Terror Ii actually is way better
Vacation of Terror 2 is right about at the same level of part 1 not very good, saw this eons mid 90's ago on some late night horror show best I can say is it's a good cure for insomnia.
Breakdown is extremely contrived. I think it's a remake as well.
one foriegn movie about a haunted house in the woods that teens come to stay in and run around in woods was awful. SLasher movie? French maybe? SPanish? it was awful.
Night of living dead was pointless like the psycho remake. No need
Let me save you some time and tell you now Vacation of Terror 2 is not much better. Maybe even worse.
Oh great. lol
In the Night of the Living Dead remake they HAD to change Barbera into WAAAAHMAN POWER!
Vinegar Syndrome has the worst titles!
Have you done a holding back the Monster strategy list
Notable movies Silver bullet
How does the vacation movie compare with Manos?
Tom Savini made the first woke version of a classic, useful for the new generations.
Do you think the movie or a warlock would have better If using the Kate and Leopold template?
I can tell you of some obscure movies I ran into when I started going to the drive in movies on a regular basis.
