Watched this video like 20 times, played both models in my local guitar store ... and still can't decide. Soo... get both, eh?

      Jazz bass

The PJ is missing the extra treble from the neck pickup. Jazz sounds a bit more open. Depends on what you want. I think the exciting, timeless sound of the splitcoil is worth the compromise.

Great demo video! I really wish they released the Precision bass in that Aged Candy Apple Red color. That just looks so good on the Jazz bass. I'm gonna try to stop down to the shop this weekend and demo those and maybe pick one of the two of them up.

Listening to this again some months later, I think the Precision (PJ) is my favorite.

Nice to see them side by side. I have a Frankenstein Fenderbass : a P body with Bartolini PJ in it, passive electronics and a jazz neck with Hipshot Ultralite Tuners. Tomorrow my new Fender Highmass Bridge will arive, and then once mounted the bass is complete. It is candyapple red with a white perloid pickguard and the fretboard and neck are birdseye maple……

I now own the Player Plus in both PJ in Cosmic Jade and Jazz in Tequila Sunrise (bought both from Empire Music and shout out to Anthony on professional interactions). I am more of a Jazz player, but I do love the PJ Precision bass. Both sound and look great. Both are both very versatile in any music genre so you can't go wrong either way. Player Plus are great value for the money.

That timeless Fender tone just comes through every time. Excellent video...thank you!

I like the PJ bass sound a little better. It had a more full sound I think.

Thank you Anthony. The Jazz bass is crying for a roasted neck. I wish Fender didn't use the electronics from the Deluxe line, the lack of Tone control in passive mode is a deal breaker for me.

That Jazz bass tone is exactly what I hear in my head when I think bass.

I agree about the subtle active adjustments, too much doesn't help matters. These two basses seem to be the best bang for the money. I actually enjoyed your slap demo and I'm not a slap fan by any stretch. Thanks Anthony!

Great video. Is there a difference in size and feel of the neck?

This was a LONG TIME ago.. I believe that the nut spacing is the only difference. Both just have C Shape with the nice Satin Finish. Thanks for watching - Anthony

In my experience the PJ is loudy and more agressive. I always found J basses to be very weak without a preamp, can never get a soundcI like out of them.

i own both... love them.. on the pj i mostly use the neck pickup and sometimes i blend the bridge pickup in

Really nice basses. Interesting that the isolated bridge pickups sound so different. I suppose it's difficult to get the EQ exactly in the same place. I'd choose the PJ, just cos I like the groovy green!

Thank you for that video. I’ve always played J basses. My first bass was a 84 Ibanez roadster with pj configuration. I’m waiting for my new P bass to arrive. I chose it because of the new PJ configuration with this active fender line. I really wanted to hear a comparison between the j & P basses. Thanks for making it.

What is the signal chain for the recording?
They both sound great but I'm leaning toward the P/J but in Olympic Pearl.

That's the best sounding active P/J bass I've ever heard. I bought a Deluxe P-Bass Special and returned it because couldn't get along with neither the feel nor the sound, but these new ones sound incredible! Jazz sounds incredible as well.
