I've met the guys from Mastodon a few times. Troy is the most humble and unassuming guy. He appreciates his fans and definitely doesn't take his success for granted. Fender is as lucky to have him in the fold as he is to have them. Well deserved.
One of the few P-basses that can beat a Jazz Bass on looks. Well done, that silver burst with the block inlays, the burst headstock, and that modern chromed out plate against black pickguard and those modern pickup covers is such a perfect vintage x modern clash. It totally is that throwback meets modern sound too. I think you guys took this signature model seriously, and it shows (and sounds). Love that trashy grind at the 5 min mark. One thing ... please please get that Troy Squier Jaguar Bass back in production. That was sick too, shame they aren't widely available. Us people that look for short-scale or medium scale don't have many options in the world.
Love it! Great job Fender, Well deserved Troy. Mastodon is my favorite band on the planet, I am continually amazed by these guys. I love that Mastodon are never afraid to expand their sound, I am blown away with every new record. Mastodon Forever, Forever Mastodon
Fender: Troy, would you be interested in a signature bass? Troy: Can we make that happen? Fender: If you want, you can will it, you can have it, I can put it right there in your hands.
So great! I don't normally gravitate to artist signature models but this might be the one. Hallelujiah for battery compartments that don't require unscrewing plates and truss rod adjustments that don't require removing the neck! Thanks Troy! Thanks Fender!
Taking off the neck does suck for truss adjustments but my Vintera 50s p bass is the best $1100 I have ever spent. It is the only fender production bass that has the 1.75 inch nut width. I do love this new sig for Troy, looks great and sounds great.
Troy is easily top 5 rock bassists all time, who knows what mastodon would have been without a true artist like him holding down the low end. An iconic and one of a kind guitar for an iconic, one of a kind musician!
Troy Sanders is one of my favorite bass players and he is one of the reasons as to why I love Progressive Rock. I will say I'm more of an Ibanez fan and love Death Metal and Deathcore more, but you gotta respect Mastodon and what they've done for both the Rock and Metal genre. The fact that Mastodon has also won grammies, been thrown into video games and movies, just tells you how successful and how amazing these guys are. When it comes to Progressive Rock, Mastodon are a Top Tier Band.
@@Roasty420 Yeah, prog rock is bands such as Yes, Genesis and Emerson, Lake & Palmer that have prominent keyboards. I would consider Mastodon to be uncategorizable like Tool is.
Most of the guys in Mastodon are close to 10 years older than me, but I listened to a lot of the same bands they did, especially Brann with all of his prog and jazz influences.
Very Tool-sounding pre amp , would be fun to mess on . Only wish they continued the Squier version . Love how Fender made his Jaguar signature in a Squier version , but even now those used go for hundred over what they were new .
Fender released a signature bass with a giant football team logo on the front of it (hello Steve Harris). So having Troy's name on the back of the headstock is definitely not obnoxious by established standards.
I took a guitar lesson from Bill and had his Sparrowhawk with me at the time and he was really happy about that I dug it. I typically dont play signature models but these guys usually have tasteful signature gear and I would love to try one of these(possibly buy one)
Just when you think Fender's done it all. What Stunning Axe. Troy's classy back to basics playing is such a welcome change to over-busy TH-cam bass vids. What a cool guy and vid - hilarious ending lol
Just remember, Troy Sanders doesn't want his bass to be overly present. In Mastadon songs, you just notice him here and there, otherwise he's perfectly camoflauged behind drums and guitars, you may seek him for minutes and never notice him until he shows himself in between.
Damn, I think I have to listen to more Mastodon. I only have heard a few songs, but just listening to Troy play here on that killer P-bass with those made me want to listen to more
Great looking bass, also very good idea putting the name behind the headstock. I know some ppl that like an instrument, but literally won’t buy it because the name is in front. I couldn’t care, I’d still buy, but that is one sexy bass.
Pretty cool that a Artist Series finally gets a Signature Bass from Fender and Not a Squier.. Like Matt Freeman, Mike Dirnt, Dee Dee Ramone etc... all made by Squier. I guess one hand it's awesome that Fender or (Squier) makes the Signature Artist Series affordable.. Doesn't matter how old you are or where you are in life financially, or if you're just starting out on Bass, everyone could have the opportunity to own a Signature Model.. But then on the other hand for us/those that are advanced and has been playing for years and years and has been on stage for 100's of shows.. and for myself that's been so lucky enough to own 3 American Fender P-Bass.. I wouldn't really want to play a lesser quality Bass once you've been playing a American Fender Bass for 20 yrs.. I hope that doesn't make me sound like a douche nozzle or a Snob. Lol!! I'm 100% Punk Rock and I'm not at all trying to come off like that Lol... Matt Freeman and Dee Dee Ramone both was and still are a HUGE influences of mine.. Anyway, lol... Pretty Awesome FENDER Artist Series Bass and a Huge congratulations to, Troy Sanders!!! 🤘
One day I hope to personally thank this man for something he did for me at a show. What manner of man senses a perfect stranger in a crowd of people and takes the time to put back something that had been ripped away? And serenade a very broken gal back into faith in humanity ❤ what a guy!
That looks & really sounds like a great new upgrade to a fantastic design that has stood the test of time. I really love the color and I really think a matching headstock makes this bass look so elligant & just Rock solid cool. Can't wait to try one & add it to my collection of Fender bass's. Stay safe and well and keep Rocking. Signed John (Zepbass) Gregory from Munster Indiana.
Very interesting bass. Not for me, I prefer the Troy Sanders Jaguar I got. Glad I got it when I did, sounds amazing. This sounds even more specified for the true mastadon fans. Still sweet. Oh does it come with a case, well that beats my jaguar.
i cant WAIT to play this bass and maybe even own one! that thing looks incredible and i mean, its P Bass so we know what that means! Mastodon has been my favorite metal band for YEARS so to see a bassist like troy get a 2Peat of basses shows exactly how appreciated he is! long live mastodon!
So in passive mode, how do the controls work? The text in the video says vol/tone/stacked EQ while Troy says Vol/blend between p/j and then EQ. Is it the same in passive mode just the EQ is passive?
Id be curious to know if the active and passive switches are eq'd the same or differently -- same with volume. nothing worse than being in the middle of a gig and the batteries die and now your thick, rich active sound is a weak measly passive noise.
I've seen Mastodon live many times over the years. I love that Troy still plays his Squire bass on stage. This new silver burst p-bass looks great!
I've met the guys from Mastodon a few times. Troy is the most humble and unassuming guy. He appreciates his fans and definitely doesn't take his success for granted. Fender is as lucky to have him in the fold as he is to have them. Well deserved.
Troy, this bass is SO SICK!!!! A killer bass for a killer player!
can't wait for your demo/review for this bass!
Just ordered mine this morning @Sweetwater 36 month 0 interest
How you liking it?
I love this man and he was the reason I started playing bass. Being left handed is so annoying 😭

Damn, that's a great looking and sounding P-Bass! Troy deserves this so much. What a great player and he's such a likeable guy.
Troy is one of my favourite human beings in this world. totally love him how he seems to be.

Fender: If you want, you can will it, you can have it, I can put it right there in your hands.
I've had mine for about 6 months, easily the best sounding bass I've ever owned. Selling my MM DarkRay because this just sounds SO much better.
Troy is such a rad dude. Always enjoy hearing him geek out about his gear.
So great! I don't normally gravitate to artist signature models but this might be the one. Hallelujiah for battery compartments that don't require unscrewing plates and truss rod adjustments that don't require removing the neck! Thanks Troy! Thanks Fender!

You talk like that's revolutionary trash Cort/Ibanez basses have easy access battery compartment for years now.
Man the guys must really love Sultan’s Curse cause they play that in any interview/demo where they play their instruments haha
I mean, who doesnt love Sultans Curse?
That's one of the coolest looking basses Fender has ever made and that's saying something.
One of the coolest basses for one of the coolest frontmen, seems about right
So happy to see Troy getting the recognition he has earned!
Troy is easily top 5 rock bassists all time, who knows what mastodon would have been without a true artist like him holding down the low end. An iconic and one of a kind guitar for an iconic, one of a kind musician!
And both his clean and harsh vocals are awesome
As much as I love Mastodon, Troy is an entire universe away from the Top 5 rock bassists of all time. In my opinion not even in top 50 of all time.
@@mirzahadzizukic1915 Geezer, Burton, Harris, Lemmy, Sanders.
Nah, he isn't, but he's good.
Like your list, Nolan.
I'd add John Entwistle, Geddy Lee, Glenn Cornick, Jeffrey Hammond, Chris Squire
I’ve listened to a fair amount of Mastodon, but never watched many interviews. Troy seems like such a nice dude.
Been here since Remission! Super proud of Troy and the boys for how far they’ve come.
Nice
so crazy, im a bassist and just started getting into Mastodon a month ago... this bass looks great
She's a beauty. Love their whole silverburst thing. Great look. Fantastic players. Hail Troy! Hail, The Mighty Mastodon!

I wouldn't really call Mastodon "progressive rock".
@@hinjurock70
Heavy metal, progressive metal, sludge metal, stoner metal, alternative metal; You are right, they are more Prog Metal if anything.
@@Roasty420
Yeah, prog rock is bands such as Yes, Genesis and Emerson, Lake & Palmer that have prominent keyboards. I would consider Mastodon to be uncategorizable like Tool is.
Mastodon is one the greatest Super Metal Band of all time. Including Troy Sanders, Bill Kellerher, Brett Hinds, and Brann Dailor.😍😍😍
Most of the guys in Mastodon are close to 10 years older than me, but I listened to a lot of the same bands they did, especially Brann with all of his prog and jazz influences.
Same…I was the only kid in my high school listening to King Crimson and John Coltrane
Looks amazing, though the jaguar will always be the ultimate Troy Sanders bass for me. The squier version was my first bass, still have it to this day
have one too, a joy to play.
That's what I play, as a beginner. Love the thing.
MTV, in its good era, really contributed to music...
Agree with Troy 100%.
One of the best looking Ps I've seen. That removable control plate is such a great idea and it makes it look amazing IMO.
I love it when metal guys use fender instruments
So sleek, love the matching burst headstock

The aesthetics alone!!!🔥🔥🔥
Such a wonderful guy, totally love Troy's vibe and energy... ⚡🤘

It's gorgeous, I want it in a 5 string version...
The tone, sound, and look of this bass is really killer.
That might be the most perfect looking instrument i’ve ever seen 🤯
I'm currently learning to play Bach Cello Suite NO. 1 on mine. Plays lovely.
Just when you think Fender's done it all. What Stunning Axe. Troy's classy back to basics playing is such a welcome change to over-busy TH-cam bass vids. What a cool guy and vid - hilarious ending lol
BRILLIANT move Fender. Troy is THE MAN and is a beast. That bass is beautiful.
Let's just hope they don't discontinue them bc to this day im still trying to get the squier model
Just remember, Troy Sanders doesn't want his bass to be overly present. In Mastadon songs, you just notice him here and there, otherwise he's perfectly camoflauged behind drums and guitars, you may seek him for minutes and never notice him until he shows himself in between.

Crack the Skye is a progressive metal masterpiece. Just brilliant. That said mastodon imo never made a bad record, as different as they all are.
Best discography in the whole world. Saying with 100% security
They've got plenty of nice songs in their records. Precious Stones is one of my favorite.
No way I can afford that beauty, but his playing is beyond motivating to pick mine up and learn more
There will likely be a Squire model that will be just as nice but more affordable.
0:17 it gave an urge to rewatch Twin Peaks
Why?
120 Minutes was awesome. Wish it still existed
Been waiting to pull the trigger on a PBass for about 2 years. Glad I did. This is definitely being ordered asap.
A work of art, no doubt. Hope to see you with one soon!
I've owned 3 different Tony Franklin Artist Series and a Stu Hamm Short Scale P Bass and I would play this one as well.
It's F E N D E R
So sick. Hoping to hear this on a new Killer Be Killed album.
What a nice dude. Everyone at Mastodon is a good person and supremely talented. Love this fucking band.
the color looks amazing... and the sound awesome!

The bass line at 4:40 that Troy’s playing is from the song called Dublin!!

Hoping for a Squier model like the last releases!
Each little piece Troy played sounds like a splash, a stroke, or a down pour of colors.
Creative and unique custom bass I ever see..😍😍
A 5 string, 19mm, 21fret version of this model would be great.

Yo, I’m wondering the same.
