    My opinion on healing is that healing comes first. If a healer is keeping us alive, they’re doing their job. If they have time to dps and add dmg then that’s cool, but expecting dmg from a healer is not something I do

    As healers, we expect dps to actively contribute to damage reduction by: kicking dangerous spells, not standing in fire, avoiding frontals, killing priority targets, using stops, and finally, and just as importantly, killing stuff really, really fast. The better they are at doing this, the less we as healers have to heal. It's just sound reasoning that in a team-based game, the less we as healers have to heal because of the good plays of our team-mates, the more we should contribute to their primary role, which, also, contributes to damage reduction, because the sooner stuff dies, the less damage they deal.

    Been healing since wotlk. I love doing damage in keys, plus kicking and CCing. The best part about healing is being able to cc, kick and heal the group as well as pumping in the dps meters!

    • @pokket_gaming
      @pokket_gaming  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Being able to kick is huge! I am glad most healers have one. That's when I started healing was wotlk!

    I think the healer that has to do damage as a requirement is obviously disc priest. It's just built into their kit now.

    On that pack where the tank died, it was to the bleed from those dogs. If you, as a tank, don't work to mitigate or slow those, you will die. Not your fault. Also, really like the idea of the Healer's do DPS or provide buffs if they arent made for that.

    • @pokket_gaming
      @pokket_gaming  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Oh that makes sense. Yeah, those dogs hurt! haha Yeah, I just want a little more variety. Sometimes I don't want to worry about doing DPS and would like to do a more Augmentation style gameplay but still playing the healer role.

    I wouldn't run overall while in a dungeon, doesn't really tell you much. But if you watch the current dps/hps you can see what goes right/wrong mid pull/on replays. But yeah on those 2 keys the tanks dieing is 100% their fault.
    But I gotta say I enjoyed SL dungeons more than these dungeons. People act like there was no healing to do but that was just for the top 0.1% the rest was a lot of players missing kicks and cc and so took a shitton on damage. Hell there were plenty of times I spam healed tanks and their health would be lower after the heal than before it. Tanks not having to kite this expac though is 100% an improvement.
    One tip for Rshaman is you should always have acid rain down. You're missing out on a passive 20-55kdps with a little healing on the side.

    • @pokket_gaming
      @pokket_gaming  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Ya, I usually have it set to "current" but I had it changed for some reason. Yeah, I need a reminder set up for acid rain.

    As someone who came back to retail after almost 12 years, I feel like the dynamics of how healing and damage and even tanking work has changed so much. It used to be that healers - in dungeons at least- would mostly be responsible for keeping the tank alive and spot heal dps if unavoidable damage should happen. It really surprised me and felt a bit strange that tanks are supposed to take care of themselves these days while healers are supposed to dps. I play dps, I feel that doing damage is my responsibility. If the healer keeps me alive throughout the dungeon, I'm happy.
    I feel like a lot of what retail is like these days, and some of what people complain about, is a result of things people asked for over the years and Blizzard's attempts to change things up. Often times I hear people whining about things that I specifically remember others begging for back in the day. Can't please them all, and you're doomed if you try.

    • @pokket_gaming
      @pokket_gaming  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Wow! Welcome back! Yeah, things have changed a lot. I agree. Blizzard has strayed far from what it was originally and they seem to cater to the top 5% of players not the rest of us just trying to enjoy a fun RPG game.

    I personally just returned to wow during s3 of Dragonflight (have not played since the launch of wotlk). I do not remember being required to do any sorts of dps as a healer (holy priest) back in the day, and boy do I miss that!

    Great video and commentary.
    Worst thing is, most of those tanks or dps’ers are thinking “wtf is this healer doing??? Can I get ONE heal?”
    I would suggest not using cloudburst on these levels of keys, it’s not needed. Healing a stream is a lot easier to manage 🎉
    You can also use Druid Incap Roar to remove the Necrofrost :)
    Shaman talent does work, but it could potentially be on CD if you went into ghost wolf beforehand :)

    I would think it's weird if a healer didn't do any damage in a dungeon, but I wouldn't say anything.
    Like others said, as long as people are alive, I'm happy. Also I know there are some pulls that get out of hand or kicks that go through that aren't a healers fault. Just keep pulling and maybe do smaller pulls if needed

  • @sackless1
    @sackless1 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    I play all 3 roles to around 3k. As a healer, there's infinite down time (or you're playing incorrectly) I'd rather not just stand there with my thumb up my rear end for 20s waiting for a dps to stand in something. There are certainly fights where it's like 3 damage globals over 2-3m, but the faster the fight is over, the less healing to be done. It's like getting the kicks, I don't have to heal the damage if I just kick the spell.
    As a dps and tank, I know there's infinite down time and fairly low healing requirements all the way up to 23. So when no one is taking damage and the healer is 5% mana with 0 dps while the dungeon goes 10% slower than it could because "I r heler" refuses to contribute anything useful. ABC - always be casting. It's like the old school strat to top a healing meter where you just stand in every fire and spam heal yourself. It's just being carried.

    • @sackless1
      @sackless1 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      P.S. tank survival is the tanks job. Healers are party support and tanks can all keep themselves alive with 5k hps on average from a healer. You can't save a tank that doesn't know how to play.

    • @pokket_gaming
      @pokket_gaming  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      So true! xD Like I said I'm not one to not DPS. I personally enjoy it. I enjoyed it more back in the day when it wasn't a "requirement" and you just looked like a badass healer for doing damage. xD Also I like that ABC acronym! I've never heard that before.

    • @pokket_gaming
      @pokket_gaming  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I don't tank so it's good to hear that. My main tank plays DK and the only time I heal him is when he says, "Big heals here. I have no CDs." And then at that point I'll heal him.

    • @sackless1
      @sackless1 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@pokket_gaming Yea, there are certainly times where you're tapped on cds and everything else is on cd, but those windows are kind of short. You can die during them, but you can also just move a little til the moment passes.
      1 exception, certain tanks when they get picked up by the tree. Paladins are dragged out of conc which is their primary defensive. Or Monks and warriors with bleeds.

  • @philippr.9870
    @philippr.9870 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

    It might be hard to balance but I would love if Healers would do Healing + ANYTHING ELSE than dmg. It just feels more thematic to have them Buffing allies or debuffing the Enemies in their downtime. But doing dmg is fine. Better than doing nothing :D Question is also: could you add constant dmg in a good way so healers always have to do something and does that improve the game? I would say no. Esp some clutch moments where a tank and a dps do the last 10% of a boss would be missing from the game then :D And it would kinda feel awkward just to add random dmg to everything so healers have to heal. So all in all.. Doing dps is fine. I think buffing/debuffing would be more fitting.
    Edit: Should watch the video further before writing a comment. you kind of said that. :D

    • @pokket_gaming
      @pokket_gaming  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      But totally though. I would like to see a buffing/debuffing support class like Aug but filling the support role. Just so there is a variety in the healing specs.

  • @Teododoom

    Healing requires sooooo many things to do (as you mention). Especielly as a resto shaman. I sure will do damage when possible, but my ability to have time for damage dealing is quite dependent on the team. The more people screw up mechanics, the less damage I can dish out.

    • @pokket_gaming
      @pokket_gaming  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Totally agree with that. Sometimes I feel like I have plenty of time to damage and other times if I stop healing people are going to die. xD That's why I think more avoidable mechanics would be better because if you're with a decent team you can spend more time DPSing.

  • @bradlymiller4936
    @bradlymiller4936 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Doing damage for me is easier as I get into higher keys. At lower keys people seem to take so much damage thus you are constantly healing them. In higher keys most people seem to know the mechanics and can avoid the avoidable. So you can then put out more damage.

    • @pokket_gaming
      @pokket_gaming  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      haha That's honestly so true. Sometimes those higher keys feel WAY easier because people are doing what they are supposed to do. xD

  • @JaySharp1
    @JaySharp1 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Expecting healer dps on anything other than rdruid is completely up to your groups ability to dodge mechanics and properly interrupt things that need interrupting. If you spend the entire key covering for this with healing you can't dps. That said I think it only makes sense to try and do damage whenever able.

    • @pokket_gaming
      @pokket_gaming  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      That's very valid. I'm definitely not one to stand around when no one is taking damage. And I do find it easier to DPS when people are doing the mechanics. xD

    I play tank and rarely ever need healing.

  • @dirkgoodman4282
    @dirkgoodman4282 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I don't know how high of keys you have ever done but u need to be healing your tanks way way more. There defensive only do so much and after a wipe they are likely on cooldown. Even a dk needs a bit of help at the start of a pull. 20s and above all the tanks are doing huge pulls. That everbloom pull will happen every single time so you need to learn how to deal with it because they are expecting you to be able to.

    • @pokket_gaming
      @pokket_gaming  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I'm going to have to disagree with you on that Everbloom pull. That is not the normal pull. The normal pull is the first pack and the left and right Dreadpetal pack and maybe the Berserker but he pulled the Berserker along with an additional Abomination pat. If that's normal to you then that's waaay beyond me. I also usually throw up an external CD on the tank at the beginning of that pull but...uhh...Shamans don't have any of those. xD

    • @pokket_gaming
      @pokket_gaming  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Well, that all depends on what keystone level you are doing. But, 15s and below, ya I could agree with that.
