Just lighten the weight a bit and slowly progress. Im 6"2 and its fricking hard for me too and i do ass to grass level squats but if you lower the weight it becomes somehwat easier to squat with perfect form.
Smith machine hack squats are great for really getting the quads as a tall guy , don’t worry about using too much weight and just get the form and range of motion down and you’ll start to feel it pretty quick.
Are you surprised that Arnie “knows what he’s talking about” when it comes to body building? Truly shocking! It’s like Usain Bolt knowing about sprinting…
I'm the same height as Arnold but WAY skinnier, and it isn't down to physiology; our center of balance is just different than shorter people. I found his advice on this a while back and it was super helpful honestly!
Same height and I’ve been going to the chiropractor for about a year now and I can finally squat consistently without feeling like blowing a disc. Good luck with surgery
It’s not about height. It’s about torso-to-femur ratio. You can be short as hell and have a fuck up ratio. You can also be a giant and squat completely upright.
Yep. If you got a short torso and long legs (it's your proportions not height), get squat shoes or plates under the feet and work on ankle mobility. The last point of all the people I've helped is the biggest reason and most don't bother training it. That's how you squat like Platz and Lu Xiaojun
Low bar squats technique helped me so much with my back issue. Had to stop lessening to everyone else and listened to my body. I struggle with front squats so I do the goblet squats: 5 Sets 20 rep’s.
long femurs compared to back are the actual reason, whether 6'6" or 5'6" tall you are. several ways around it are front squat as he says, plates under heels or shoes with high heel drop, or wide stance squat (sumo squat).
I did front squats once to try it with leight weight and when i start to felt pain in the spine (around the middle) i stopped immediately it felt like someone pierced me with a knife in the spine years after that i went coincidentally to the orthopedist turns out i have an unstable spine and a scoliosis with right curvature, no more squats and Military presses just bench press and pull ups/pull downs to stretch the spine, it's so annoying
Proportions matter more than height I would think, especially length of femurs in this case. I’m about 6’ 2” and I can squat ATG in the front or high bar back squat straying relatively upright in regular shoes or especially in squat shoes/weightlifting shoes. Ankle mobility is also very important, which is why the weightlifting shoes help.
Wow this is the issue I’ve been experiencing with squats. I’m not tall (5’ 9”), but I’m pretty slim for my height, so I imagine that causes the same issue a tall guy has with squats causing a forward lean and putting weight on the lower back. I’m gonna definitely try this method.
I don't have a problem with the outer thigh. Either leg extensions toes pointed out or leg press allows me to hit that dominant part of my quads. I used to have a better tear drop , but working on bringing back up. 🤙🏼 #GLORYTOGOD #HEALTHBUILDING #LID #LIFESTYLE #HEALTHYISHOLY #Antstrength
5’8” and tall is an oxymoron. You may have long legs for your height but you’re not tall by any standards. I’m 5’7” myself, here in Finland anything below 6’3” or about 190 cm is not considered tall
@@AK12255 it's the bar that is a problem for me lol. It's bad on my chest and I used to do the clean grip and my wrists hated it but it's a good exercise if you're able to do it right and in a smart efficient way.
I’ve always been a fan of Arnold’s legs. They weren’t so huge that he couldn’t wear a pair of jeans, but they were completely separated and shredded. Who the hell wants to walk around with parachute pants 24/7 ? Most of those guys have to bring their legs out just to walk normally.
I need to train like Arnold. I have almost the same natural build as Arnold minus the enhancement drugs. Long legs, wide shoulders, big chest, big arms.
We’re did all the time go it seem like yesterday we were young and now old. Life is short I thought it would take forever to get old and not I’m 64 really sucks 😂

Good info Arnold! Still has slapper advice in his older years.. what a legend

I liked when he told us to F our freedoms. I love when Austrians want to control us.
Not surprised, he’s been with enough of them lmao
@antnfs for sure haha
The human body hasn’t changed.
I'm 6'1 and don't have any problems if I put plates under my heels. A great solution
Some people also use squat shoes which do that too.
Improving ankle mobility is also another way of doing it
@@karmacop217depends if it’s a mobility issue or if your femur length is that long in ratio to your torso and tibia
@@paulallen1370 they expensive tho
yo, could you explain how this work. like the placement and stuff
I’m about 6 foot tall and I have a hard time not lean forward when I squat. So I’ll try that, plus I’m relatively new to workouts at a gym.
First try to do squats on bench or higher place.
Just lighten the weight a bit and slowly progress. Im 6"2 and its fricking hard for me too and i do ass to grass level squats but if you lower the weight it becomes somehwat easier to squat with perfect form.
Form first brother or you could hurt yourself.
Im 6’1 i just use a smith machine for heavy weight then normal free barbell for lighter weight
Smith machine hack squats are great for really getting the quads as a tall guy , don’t worry about using too much weight and just get the form and range of motion down and you’ll start to feel it pretty quick.
He knows what hes talking about, truly amazing
Are you surprised that Arnie “knows what he’s talking about” when it comes to body building? Truly shocking! It’s like Usain Bolt knowing about sprinting…
Makes complete sense. Had the same problem. (6’4)
I’m 6’2 but I point my toes a little out and I can go all the way down that’s what helped me
@@colemanparmer3541 if your tall do a sumo squat it’s a lot easier
@@deathtoming2201 yeah, no don’t. No sumos. Exile sumo lifts over the years please.

Front squats are underrated
I’m 6’4 and always had issues. Currently not squatting but as soon as I have my surgery and recover I’m gonna give this a try
Same height and I’ve been going to the chiropractor for about a year now and I can finally squat consistently without feeling like blowing a disc. Good luck with surgery
feel better
Was that platz going ass to grass with his heels like 2 inches apart ?😱🤯🤯
All day. Dude was THE squat God
He says no deadlifts these days.
the quadfather does indeed
And with two plates too. The quad father was built different 🦵
Hack squat blows my quads up
I get the fattest quad pump from hack squats.
Fun fact the other dude in the video is called Tom Platz
THE definition of what a leg day should be
It’s not about height. It’s about torso-to-femur ratio. You can be short as hell and have a fuck up ratio. You can also be a giant and squat completely upright.
when this LEGEND speaks, I listen. Period
Yep. If you got a short torso and long legs (it's your proportions not height), get squat shoes or plates under the feet and work on ankle mobility.

ankle mobility is very important but you need A LOT of it to make up for the proportions (if you wanna squat like Platz and Lu with longer femurs)
Tom Platz been saying this
Low bar squats technique helped me so much with my back issue. Had to stop lessening to everyone else and listened to my body. I struggle with front squats so I do the goblet squats: 5 Sets 20 rep’s.
ADVICE FROM THE GREATEST
As someone who's 9'6 I can relate
long femurs compared to back are the actual reason, whether 6'6" or 5'6" tall you are. several ways around it are front squat as he says, plates under heels or shoes with high heel drop, or wide stance squat (sumo squat).
Until 1970, Arnold legs are most underated body part...
I’m 6’8 and always have the problem of leaning and it hurts my back
Never done the front squats before but definitely gonna try it now
They are amazing but you are probably gonna have to use less weight since they are harder
I don't squat much but yeah the taller you are the more comfortable front squats are.
Platz is literally 5’2 of course he gets ass to grass bro is ass to grass when he gets out of bed
I’m tall at 6”4 and this is spot on. When I squat with the weight in front of me I feel more balanced and the burn in my outer thighs works for me.
When i first started lifting, i watched a bunch of 5-foot guys on youtube. It didn't click for a while that my squat would look different.
Proportions matter more than height I would think, especially length of femurs in this case. Long legs here, leaning forward is my issue too. If I concentrate i can avoid it but its always a risk when I'm moving up weights
I have same issue.being tall always leaned forward.. time for forward squats

Lol Platz just exploding thru his squat
I’m only 5’11 3/4 yet my leg reach has been measured up to 44inches and I have this same issue

I just realized how smart Arnold is. He literally put his mind into training.
Someone finally understands my pain

I’m 5”8 and have a hard time leaning forward on my squats because of my taller frame, good advice
5“8 and tall frame?😂 Im sorry to disappoint you, but I think youre just below average in height

At 5 8 you shouldn't have any problems, video yourself from the side on to see what's going wrong.

i have long thighs im glad this short came up, because i was trying to figure out what would be the right squat .
His legs, in particular his upper legs, are very long, There's a picture of him doing a kneeling 3/4 back that shows this very well.
The fourth picture of him almost reminds me of Hayden Christensen
Front squats are insane if you go heavy💪🏽
It’s crazy for me is opposite I’m ass to grass on back squats and front squat is harder to get depth unless it’s lightweight
Pure determination
I hate front squats. Feels like I'm gonna die any moment.
I love them lol 😂. Something about the pain is just addicting

@@Pirustae Yea thats the only thing with front squats the bar can become a problem and the wrist pain too😅
I also changed my back squats to front squats im 189 cm tall
Another method is to place a plate under the heels with adds more tension to the quad creating more knee flection 👍

Ukrainian song playing and Legend speaking, so nice
I definitely needed this
I‘m 7‘4‘‘ and never thought about that before
I am only 5’9 (although I feel 5’7) and I have went through my front squat phase and found the best quad dominant squat for me to be the platz squat
I always do front squats.. feel soo much better
I’m Hans and this is Franz and we’re here to pump you up! 😂🎉
I'm 6"5 of mostly legs and if i elevate my heels i can squat with a straight bar path
I love front squats always enjoyed them during football workouts too
im 6'9, my ROM is pretty garbage so I usually stick to other compound movemnts
Only doing front squats now arnie said so
And the guy they call quad father is accusing people of leaning forward more just out of choice🤣
I need to train like Arnold. I have almost the same natural build as Arnold minus the enhancement drugs. Long legs, wide shoulders, big chest, big arms.
At 6 ft 6 deadlifts are a nightmare
Deadlift is actually the one compound movement that favors height. Your form is probably just bad.
I hate squats; basically it’s the most important exercise in the gym; uses your whole entire body in one exercise; I really need to do these the most
THANK YOU
And that is why Olympic Weightliftingers have massive front squats. Remain vertical
I do both but i do feel front squats hit my quads more
Squat shoes or wedging something under your heels would be good. Get good form and go heavier on back squat
I think it is the issue of having longer femur… not necessarily taller height
Recently tried this and it works
What I’m 6’1 this is one of the best tips
If Arnold had access to Hack Squat or Leg Press, his legs could've been so much better. He would've been a monster
they had hack squats
His quads were pretty good, it's his hamstrings that were lacking
I’m not a tall man, but I have long thighs and have had a similar problem. Maybe I should try this tip.
I'm 6 foot 9 and have trouble keeping up iv been training for 1 year 3 days a week and not seeing any real changes
Whoo thanks for suggestions 😃
Arnold seems to know one thing or the other about training with weights.
Must have done that before.
😄
So relatable
Wow that’s a great solution
Bro trust on me is different game when you tall guy and whole strategy
Even I'm 6'7 inches tall and my legs take time to grow
Squats we're destroying my knees so I had to switch it over to the hex bar.
Und I never forgot to use my peanut butter protien powder while training either!!
And i got external pile now😂
Truth. Now it's late.
I’m not tall I just got long legs but this helped a ton

"Congratulations,you have achieved failure "
A genius
If you can't do the exact exercise
Find an alternative
I am 6'3+ but i have very short legs and all torso
Because he Lacked of mobility. Not because he had long legs.
And that's why everyone squats wrong nowadays 😂
Ukrainian song is a thrill, hello from Ukraine!!! 🇺🇦 Arnold ❤
Very true
Thx I’m 6’5 at 17 it’s hard bro
Is he squatting 405 barefoot????
The problem with these squats is that you cant put much weight or else your shoulder will hurt more than your legs
Platz wouldn't approve lmao
Platz is also short.
Yea I know. I'm 6ft3 and I've been trying to do the Platz form but it is hard for us taller folk.
6 ft 2 wasn't that tall...yes,its very tall for me but this is not the reason
Watching this as a 5,10 haha 😢
