I saw Heart as the kicker band for the Doobie Brothers at Pine Knob in Michigan circa 1976. Their song, "Sing Child Sing," has some great funk sound and Ann Wilson's amazing discordant arpeggio vocal skills.
From their 1978 album, " Dog and Butterfly" this song went to Number 15 on the Billboard Hot 100's and went double platinum. This bluesy rock ballad with a great funky dance bass line was produced during the disco era which may explain its funkiness Harri. The recognizable vocals of the Wilson's driven by steady bass drum made for a big hit. Great reaction Harri. Thanks Harri and Brandon. 👏👏 Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦
The very next song on the album was Dog and Butterfly. An acoustic ballad that is just so beautiful. Ann Wilson said she looked out into the yard and saw a dog chasing a butterfly. Please give this a listen. This was 1978.
@ghfan6848 I bought this album when it came out & played it a LOT. And every time "Dog & Butterfly" started I would scoop up Kilmeny, my beloved Cocker Spaniel, & hold her while listening...sometimes serenading her as it played. I'm not sure how pretty that was but she loved it. It's still one of my favorite songs ever. But I can't hear it without crying a little. I bet I'm not the only person who feels that way. I think the song touches the heart of anyone who's ever loved & lost a canine companion.💙🌿
That low Tom drum on the 2 & 4 beats is what you!re hearing. It’s mic’d close, and somehow hits harder than the bass (kick) drum in the 1 beat. Te bass and guitar are playing so funky off this beat, that it all drives the song! Add in Nancy’s harmonies next to Ann’s powerful singing, and how could it not be amazing!
and for more funkiness from HEART, you may wanna listen to "white lightning and wine". you would love it. in fact, just take a b hit, and listen to the entire dreamboat annie album. it is such a gem.
Saw them live in mid-March, 1984 in Fayettville, N.C. when I was stationed at Ft. Bragg. The late Eddie Money was their opening act and both put on a terrific show that night.
heart and the money man - damn - i envy you. one song by eddie that never got any airplay is also my favorite song by him - 'looking through the eyes of a child' do you know that song ?
BeBe La Strange is a banger. “Tell us like it is” has a swing feel to it. Ann sitting at the piano singing “sweet darlin” really shows some vintage Ann.
Brandon, you are on fire with both the Elvis submission and now another one of my favorites, Heart, "Straight On You." Harri, another excellent review! The bar has been raised this month!
I was commenting with sir drummin about my picks more representing requesters like us as a "hive mind" type of thing. I mentioned that his Frampton pick was a perfect representation of "us" also
@@brandonious7732 Ima is a solid source for sure. I want to understand what you mean when you are saying requesters like us as a "hive mind." I am simply not familiar with the term other than its use in describing some number of participants in something being like-minded ( as in similar tastes in music)? Thank you in advance.
I always thought ❤ was such a great name for this band considering their music really was ❤ stopping and ❤ moving and helped build my musical youth in the 70s and 80s. Thanks Harri again for another great video.
One of their best. I also recommend Tall Dark Handsome Stranger, and their performance of Stairway to Heaven at the Kennedy Center Honors when Led Zeppelin was one of the honorees.
45 years! 🎂 Definitely 1970s sound. Heart did a lot of Led Zeppelin covers. The Wilson sisters went off to go beyond a cover band by experimenting with different styles. Here, country, southern rock and funk are blended with that voice from Ann Wilson, who was coached by the late David Kyle, RIP. Then, the other famous singing students are/were Geoff Tate (Queensryche), Chris Cornell (Soundgarden), Layne Staley (Alice in Chains).
Shout out to Brandon Watts!! TY!! 👊🏽🔥 My fav song!! ❤️ Love this album. Written by Nancy, Ann and long time friend, Sue Ennis, in 78. Classified as their classic era. The groove, the funk, the drum rhythm, guitars, and those vocals, those 2 can sing...YAAAAAS!! 🔥 Not the 1st to comment about disco, but I don't get it Harri. 🤷♀️ Xtra Thanks for this one!!
They have alot of these funky songs that nobody is reacting to.😢I keep trying to tell everyone but they don't listen.😊You should do Cook With Fire, Sing Child, Little Queen, Love Alive, White Lightning and Wine, Devil Delight, Go on Cry. This is a good start.
Talented, highly intelligent & Absolutely Gorgeous, both of them---
The Wilson sisters are amazing and have been forever! Timeless!
their vocal harmonies on this song are outstanding. you can tell they have years of experience singing with each other.
Fantabulous. Thank you
I wonder if there’s ever been a study on siblings’ harmonizing compared to others …Heart …The Bee Gees …etc. The siblings seems to sound SO amazing✨
Underrated song by Heart (IMO)
A friend of a friend played bass for them for many years. Dan Rothschild ( his father produced The Doors ).
But he doesn't play it on this record, that is Steve Fossen.

Thanks for the insight Mary. Cheers to Canada!
I was a teenager who loved this song, had the album and danced to the bands who did covers of Heart in the rock clubs. Love those fun nights! ❤
@Brandon Watts You're so welcome Brandon. ✌️👍🎶🇨🇦🇺🇲
I love the line 'was a prisoner of doubt'. Heartless is a less-talked-about gem of a rock song from Heart.
Mine is “What the winner don’t know the gambler understands”. Often the only to win is to risk losing.
My favorite!! Thanks..
"Heartless" is a 1978 minor hit in which Heart put tough rock robes on a truly funky beat. I think you'd really enjoy it.
Yes! Possibly the funkiest song they recorded.
I got to see Heart live in concert! They were amazing! Thank you for this one.

"Mistral Wind " is a must Harri
You've done all of my favorite Heart songs, so no suggestions. Carry on! 💜💜💜
I love heart! They have an undeniable sound no matter what they sing. Their vocals are great and of course Ann is fantastic❤
By far my favorite Heart song; that beat hits hard! ❤ You are right, Harri; it’s definitely got a funk sound; that’s why I love it!
Ah man, when I saw the thumbnail I thought someone was finally reacting to the video 😢
One of my favorites

My all time favorite Heart song

for a real treat, see them perform one of their best songs "live in seattle". insane. the whole concert, actually. their home town.
BeBe La Strange is a banger.
“Tell us like it is” has a swing feel to it.

a few other gems by them are Dreamboat Annie, Love Alive & Cry to Me
Brandon Watts, you are on a roll brother. Fantastic picks my man!!!!👍👍👍
Endless number of great songs from Heart.... try Mistral Wind from same album....a total banger

Yes. It seems as though there are a good lot of us on the same page musically.
They’re awesome!

I believe you will find it is a sitar, Harri.
One of their best. I also recommend Tall Dark Handsome Stranger, and their performance of Stairway to Heaven at the Kennedy Center Honors when Led Zeppelin was one of the honorees.
Thanks Brandon. This is the perfect place to do this song. We can always count on Harri to deliver a great reaction and this was no exception 🌺✌️
Thanks Debbie. I thought I'd shine a light on this underrated gem . People request "barracuda" and "crazy on you" but this one gets forgotten.
Heartless is a fantastic track❤

Xtra Thanks for this one!!
In my opinion one of the most underrated songs by a group compared to their biggest hits.
Easy Lover by phil collins would be a good one
Heart are huge and cover most genres
❤❤❤ My Absolute Favorite 😻😍🌹❤❤❤❤

White Lightning and Wine is another you should check out.
Yes 1978
I believe Heart are Canadian
No. They are from Seattle. Close!
@@tinalinge2782 they became famous internationally in Vancouver area....a stone throw from Seattle.
My 3rd fav female rock voice after Amy Lee and Stevie Nicks
Heart is a Canadian band Harri
All due respect to Blondie she can't bang out the high notes in this one.
